The success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine has spurred Fox to ramp up development of its expected spinoff featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Spoilers ahead!)
Fans who saw the movie over the weekend may have seen one of two tag scenes that played after the end credits, as we reported earlier: one featuring Deadpool and a second featuring Wolverine in Japan, the subject of an expected second Wolverine movie.
Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called Deadpool. Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.
Deadpool is known as "the merc with a mouth," a character who under Reynolds lived up to his billing in Wolverine until the end, when the movie deviated from the comic-book persona, imbuing him with several superpowers and sewing his mouth shut.
It is understood that Reynolds would regain the ability to mouth off, with the movie going back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall. The character also was disfigured in Wolverine, though it's unclear at this time how much the studio would want to mess with Reynolds' face.
The project is out to writers.

The writers in question would do best to avoid linking this movie to Origins Wolverine as much as possible, at least in my opinion. Everything about the character was great until they turned him into "Weapon XI." What BS.

Well, There was about a six year gap between recruiting Wolverine and the Weapon XI program. Then you also got that history before Wolverine was recruited.
I totally cannot wait to see Deadpool break the 4th wall in during the movies. Maybe even referencing the previous 4 Xmen movies and other super hero movies. I'm reminded of Zack from the first years of Save by the Bell!

Wasn't Ryan Reynolds supposed to play the Flash?

I good with that Idea.... As long as they have him lose the cyclops power and have his body reject the adamantium in his body. Let him keep the teleporting and the healing with the scars to his face to keep him pretty well in line.....

Depends on which ending they go with. If they go with the ending of him picking up the head of the Weapon XI killed by Wolverine then you don't have to even think about the Origins movie

Well, Deadpool has a healing factor superior to Wolverine or Sabertooth, so it is not beyond the realm of comic-book possibilities for him to recover, have his healing factor "kick-out" all the Weapon XI add-ins and go back to just a "merc with a mouth" character, face healed and all.
So he would be Deadpool, but without the messed up face.

I think they just write off Weapon XI as a clone of Deadpool and have deadpool found in a vat somewhere under 3 mile island.
They could even throw in a bit how he help Striker to get the regen ability for his cancer.
Done and done, then that gene spliced mutant, the worst part of wolverine written off.

It's entirely possible for Deadpool to survive his beheading. Only this month he was beheaded in the comics and was fine after it was sewn back on ;)
But they will certainly have to get rid of some of those powers (healing and teleporting should be fine to leave, brings him to his good old days in the comics :D

Deadpool is virtually "unkillable" due to the fact that an encounter with Thanos gave him those powers.

Why leave him with the teleportation power? Deadpool doesn't have that power. Plus, if you get rid of 'Pool's cheesegrater-like skin, then you lose a component of his madness, and why he acts the way he does. Scar him up, make him crazy, and give him some guns, for god's sake. Deadpool likes things that slice or go boom.

They better do him justice in this movie I liked him at the beginning of Wolverine but at the end I was furious. They should have just used the mutant Mimic if they wanted one who could copy all of the powers they wanted or even better yet just have Wolverine fight the members of the old squad that would have been better. They better give him his disfigured appearence or I will be annoyed, he'll be wearing his mask most of the time anyway.
P.S., SkippyTheMarine, Deadpool doesn't have teleporting powers but he does have a teleportation device now. But I'd rather have him lose all but his healing powers.

Deadpool is the pits. I do not know why so many people think this character is even worth having a movie. I could definitely see a direct to dvd future, but nothing else other than cameos in the next Wolverine sequels.
