Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau told Empire magazine that the sequel will deal with the fallout of Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) Iron Man announcement as he faces down two new villains: Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) and Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell).
"Tony's expected to be a role model, and I don't think he's ready to be one," Favreau told the magazine. "He's under a great deal of pressure, and when you're under pressure, I think you find outlets for that. That's one of the tensions of the film: it's one thing to say you're Iron Man and another thing to actually become Iron Man."
And what of Stark's friend and confidant Jim Rhodes? Favreau hinted that Rhodes, now played by Don Cheadle, will be tooling up big-time when he dons his own armored suit as War Machine. "Rhodesy is definitely stepping up in this film," Favreau said. "Let me put it this way: Tony's not the only person with technology in the film."
Rourke, meanwhile, was back on set last week. "I'm having the time of my life!" he said. "It's been really brutal, because my Iron Man suit weighs 23 pounds. It's sort of a half-suit, with half my skin showing, with lots of Russian tattoos, because [Whiplash is just] out of a Russian-zone prison."
Iron Man 2 opens May 7, 2010.

Can't wait to watch it when they 'accidentally' leek it next April.

OMG, 23 pounds! That's insane! OK, either Rourke is a big-ol whimp or that's a typo. I wear 75 to 85 pounds of gear on a typical SWAT mission and I don't get a stunt double to do all of the action scenes. Our soldiers carry that and more in conditions that are well beyond what an actor has to deal with.

Maybe Rourke was spouting metric. If you've seen the Wrestler, you'd know Rourke ain't a wimp, but he is an old banged up dude.
75-85 lbs of gear doing SWAT work, you holding a shield? 75-85lbs of gear is typical load out for soldiers, who I imagine carry more gear than officers on SWAT duty. Didn't know the loads were actually similar.

@Mouretsu
The difference being that your job is to save people's lives and Mickey Rourke's is to stand in front of a green screen and pretend that his face doesn't look like a melted pumpkin.
Thanks for defusing all those bombs, by the way (that's basically what you guys do, right?).
By scifi-firefighter at 9:03 AM ON 05/29/09
Micky Rourke ought to try to wear the gear we fire fighters have to wear when going in to a burning building. 23 pounds is nothing compared to our gear and Darth Vader sounding breathing air system.
I did not know that SWAT's gear was that heavy, but I guess when you are dealing with bad guys with big guns, you need the heavy duty body armor.
By sketch at 11:01 AM ON 05/29/09
hey lets see you were your swat gear for 12 to 14 hours a day under hot movie lights not to mention he's in his sixties.

When Rourke's job actually puts his life in danger, when he doesn't get to go back to a pampered trailer between takes, when he doesn't get paid millions for one movie and makes the wage of a civil servant, then, let's talk.
By stfu at 3:41 PM ON 05/29/09
maybe you guys should relax. nobody cares that you carry more gear than a guy in a fictional movie.

@stfu
THANK YOU FOR FINALLY SAYING THAT!!!!!
