Freddie Prinze Jr. joins cast of 24: Is he the next Jack Bauer?

Freddie Prinze Jr. joins cast of \<i\>24\<\/i\>: Is he the next Jack Bauer?

Freddie Prinze Jr. is joining the cast of Fox's 24 as a regular, playing Davis Cole, a recently returned Marine who runs CTU Field Ops and wants to follow in Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) footsteps, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.

On the real-time drama, whose upcoming eighth season started production Wednesday, Prinze joins fellow new cast additions Anil Kapoor, who plays a Middle East leader; Chris Diamantopoulos, as the president's new chief of staff; and John Boyd as a CTU systems analyst. All of them are regulars, while Jennifer Westfeldt has come aboard as a recurring cast member, playing a journalist.

Also cast as a recurring character on the 20th TV/Imagine series is Nazneen Contractor as Kapoor's daughter.

Just shoot him in the first episode, pretty please.

Why are we even talking about 24 here? It's not science fiction...not by a long shot. And don't even get into "it takes place in the future" because that's just lame.

As for Freddie Prinze Jr...please. No way. This is about as big a miscast as I can think of.

The guy have only done pretty much comedy before so give him a chance before you bash him :P

By patman1974 at 5:59 AM ON 05/28/09

and then he takes scooby with him???
and Buffy yes that would be nice:)

For the Prinze haters out there here's one possibility: Sarah Gilbert. Not saying you should get your hopes up, but misdirection casting gimmicks have been used by the show before. On the other hand, I fear Prinze may be another Chase Edmunds type character.

Agree with Marty. Fear Scooby's Master will become another Chase. As for the mis-castings... do you guys remember The Hobbit as CTU Boss?!

Well, sometimes they use devices that don't really exist (at least I hope not, for the reasons shown on the series), kind of like some of the stuff you see in the James Bond movies. In Season 4, there was the Dobson Override Device, which allowed the government to control and shut down any nuclear power plants, but the terrorists used it to melt down every power plant in the US instead. And in Season 7, there was the CIP device, which allowed anyone to tamper with major infrastructure systems in the US (that kind of sounds like the plot of "Die Hard 4", actually). And then there's all that computer stuff that Chloe does.

DOG ACTOR!
I don't understand the need to find a new jack bauer every season, nobody wants a new bauer, no one can replace bauer/kiefer.
and why they always cast someone THAT CAN'T ACT??
First it was that dumbo blond has-been, now freddy crappy jr. WHY???
Last time freddy crappy was seen he was writing for wwe wrestling, WTF!
what's next? a cw actor?
If Kiefer wants out then the series needs to end.

Aidemin, by "misdirection casting" I meant like in Season 2 or 3 where Sarah Gilbert was cast (I want to say Season 2 since I think her job was identical to Jaime or whoever the Season 1 mole was that Nina killed inside CTU). TV Guide etc. really hyped her joining the cast, only to get killed off early on in the series, like episode 3 or something.

With Kyle, no one complained all the press SciFi Wire gave to Bond's quantum of solace; and really 24 is somewhere between a James Bond movie and a Tom Clancy technothriller. Heck, Jack was saved by experimental stem cell technology that at this point is really only in a theoretical/basic science formulation.

I think this coming season is the last in Kiefer's contract? If the show is going to continue, they WILL need a replacement for him.

Not sure this guy is the one, though LOL

And this is sci-fi how? Go write for a Kiefer Sutherland blog if you don't want to write about sci-fi.

Great post for some other site. This one's supposed to be about Sci-Fi.

If "24" continues after Kiefer leaves, they should have the freckled FBI chick from Season 7 take over the lead.

'Jump The Shark' time ! ! !

By John at 9:41 PM ON 06/01/09

No No No No No Not Freddie Prince Jr. of all the actors. I would have gone with a least a unknown actor with a background in physical roles. But not Freddie.
