How Museum 2's Amy Adams took wing as Amelia Earhart

How \<i\>Museum 2\<\/i\>\'s Amy Adams took wing as Amelia Earhart

Amy Adams, who plays legendary pilot Amelia Earhart in the upcoming fantasy sequel Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, told reporters that she loved jumping into the high-energy family film franchise.

"I have a good time doing all genres," Adams said in a news conference at the real Smithsonian Institution last weekend in Washington. "I don't think one is easier or harder. ... Well, I think comedy is really, really hard, but I had such great people to work with on this [film]."

Adams spoke at the news conference alongside director Shawn Levy, screenwriters Ben Garant and Tom Lennon and co-stars Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson and Hank Azaria. "Comedy is all about the talent around you, and come on, look at these guys," Adams said. "These are some pretty amazing people to work with."

In Night at the Museum 2, Adams plays an Amelia Earhart figure in storage at the Smithsonian who is magically brought to life by a mystical Egyptian tablet. She teams up with former security guard Larry Daley (Stiller) in an adventure to retrieve the tablet from the evil Egyptian pharaoh Kah Mun Rah (Azaria), who is bent on world domination.

Adams' Earhart is a feisty spitfire not unlike Katharine Hepburn, equally adept at rapid-fire dialogue and come-hither flirting. In preparing for the role, Adams said she drew from several sources to create the performance.

"We wanted to capture the spirit of adventure, and Amelia does have that," Adams said. "She's somebody who can hold her own in a man's world, so I did take that [from her]. But they wrote such a fun and spunky character that is such a foil to Ben, so I followed the script and I followed the history, and put them together into what is Amelia Earhart in the film."

Museum 2 is the first of two summer films the actress is starring in, the other being the comedy Julie and Julia, with Meryl Streep playing master chef Julia Child.

Asked how she feels about the state of her red-hot career right now, Adams offered humbly, "I'm having a good time," she said. "Right, now I'm having a good time and trying to enjoy it. I get to work with amazing people, so I'm counting my blessings and I'm living in the present." Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian opens on Friday.
