Lucasfilm shooting new Star Wars? It's not what you think ...

Lucasfilm shooting new \<i\>Star Wars\<\/i\>? It\'s not what you think ...

Slashfilm reports that Lucasfilm has been secretly shooting new footage in West Hollywood, Calif., for Star Tours, the Disneyland/Disney World Star Wars-themed ride.

The site reports that the shoot—designed for the motion-simulator attraction at the Disney theme parks—will feature familiar Star Wars characters and creatures such as Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, a Tusken Raider and even some Jawas. C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels, will be filming later this week.

Citing anonymous sources, the site also reports that the new footage may incorporate prequel creatures, such as Naboo citizens and Geonosians, along with aliens from the original film trilogy.

In the action sequence, the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett. C-3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts, and Daniels will reportedly record his parts this week.

The ride, which opened in 1987 in California, is part of Disneyland in California, Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland in Japan and Disneyland Park in Paris.

Sweet. Love that ride, but the visuals have been looking pretty dated since Episode I came out.

I rode that thing 3 times when I went to Disney land for the 2nd time when I was a kid. It ate up most of the day standing in line because the ride had only been open a couple of years and was then the most popular ride at the park.

Disneyland is in Anaheim not West Hollywood. You guys need to get a fact checker. I mean I know it's a minor detail, but it makes you guys look unprofessional.

The shoot is taking place in West Hollywood, not at Disneyland. We'll clarify the story.

I hope this is true. Star Tours is fun, but it's needed updating for a number of years now.

I know it has become the sole purpose of people's lives lately to bash Scifiwire, but come on. If you are going to complain about something they got wrong, at least make sure you read it correctly. They never said he was shooting in Disneyland itself, so where Disneyland is located is irrelevant. Please read before griping, or better yet, cease with the pointless complaints altogether.

I heard rumors they were going to update Star Tours. This is awesome news. Me and my wife have been planning on going to Disneyworld for there Star Wars month in a couple years with our little monster. By the time we go it should be updated, I hope.

Any idea on completion dates? We are going to Disney World on June 20, and my kids are really excited about this attraction (not me mind you, just the kids, I couldn't care less ;) ). Seriously, though, we really miss Star Trek the Experience, so this might make up for that a little.

Lucas is probably going to combine prequel stuff to the blu-ray versions of "A New Hope" & "Empire."

Yoda's best buddy jar-Jar, etc

There've been rumors about new footage for Star Tours ever since they came out with the posters for other destinations like Tattooine -- 15-20 years ago! Here's hoping this time they're true.

Oh no, Lucas will f*@# this up too.

By Biff at 2:19 AM ON 05/02/09

They need to update a lot more than the film footage. Very few motion-simulator attractions can compare to Back to The Future: The Ride

By Biff at 2:22 AM ON 05/02/09

BTW, is there any chance Universal will revive BTTF: The Ride?

By Ceres2 at 3:38 AM ON 05/02/09

This ride became irrelevant A LONG TIME AGO. I was at Disneyland for opening day and except for expanding the line area a decade or so ago, I can't think of one thing that's changed since 1987!

The whole inside of the ride needs some fresh paint and a whole new make over if they are serious about updating the move sim since the current one ties it to what you see in the line area. Oh and please get anyone else to do voice of the droid inside the sim.

Then again, Disney does not do change very well. How many times have we seen the dinosaurs slide past the train at Disneyland?

Inner Space anyone?

Lucas is a Hack. Gimme Star Trek anyday over that overrated piece of crap he has sucked dry over the years

By Loonbeam at 9:15 AM ON 05/04/09

Assuming a full refurb is involved, Disney will take the ride offline for about 4-6 months, usually over the less busy season. So if they are shooting now, I'd expect the ride to be down October to April, if it is on this year's schedule.
