TheFutonCritic.com reports that Fox will air the two-hour pilot for the proposed sci-fi series Virtuality on July 4, a Saturday, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The pilot, co-created by Michael Taylor and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), centers on the crew of the Phaeton, Earth's first starship. To endure the 10-year journey, the astronauts use virtual-reality modules that allow them to explore self-created scenarios. But a virus infects the system and puts all of their lives on the line, the site reported.
The pilot's ensemble cast includes Clea DuVall, Erik Jensen, Gene Farber, James D'Arcy, Jimmi Simpson, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Joy Bryant, Kerry Bishe, Nelson Lee, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Omar Metwally, Richie Coster and Sienna Guillory. Peter Berg directed the Universal Media Studios-based pilot and executive-produced alongside Taylor, Moore, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Sarah Aubrey.
It's not clear if the show is being picked up as a series; the pilot was ordered revamped during production. Fox announces its fall lineup on May 18.

That pretty much guarantee it will not be picked up for a full series, fox is just dumping it since they have to air it.
But im glad i get to see it :P

It'll be great to see this. I think Fox was trying to get the 2-hour pilot it saw as too heady into a one hour version, but I hope this means we get to see what Moore and Taylor intended. I'm sure it'll be great!
I just hope it doesn't stop Moore from writing more episodes of Caprica!

Why bother? After a few episodes it will be all about the romance. That's how USA tv works.
WHO DO YOU SHIP ON VIRTUALITY?

Sounds a lot like a certain Philip K. Dick book. Could be good, could be rotten. Keep your fingers crossed.

It sounds like a Star Trek holodeck episode extended into a TV series.

Hmmmm, a pilot for a proposed new series airing in the dead of summer - a holiday no less - and a Saturday to boot. Sounds like Fox is really behind this!

I agree with I Am Kirok! I disliked watching most of those type of episodes on Star Trek. Plus it is on Fox? Do they ever do justice to a Sci-Fi show?

I almost never check out stuff based on the premise because the studio is usually going to emphasize superficial stuff. The 4400 sounded ridiculous to me, but I watched because Ira Steven Behr was involved. In this case, I don't care about the descriptions because Ron Moore and Michael Taylor are involved and Fox publicly worried it was too smart for the audience. That makes me very excited!

Not only will it be shown on Saturday, July 4th, but the movie will be broadcast out of sequence to make the commercials more enticing. According to a source at the network, since it's science fiction, it's doubtful anyone will notice the difference. The Program Director certainly didn't.

I thought so too until I heard the big conceit of the show: due to NASA getting not enough funding, the Phaeton had to get co-funded by various private corporations and in short...
...they agreed to put cameras throughout the ship and broadcast it back to Earth as a reality TV show of sorts.
Some of the astronauts overtly think this is a stupid idea, but they're stuck.
Worse, and this sounds like Cavil from BSG dressed up as someone else (devilish guy who has no real scruples and just reacts with sardonic glee at what he does)........the ship's psychologist is also the "director" of the reality show, so he *intentionally* encourages shipmates into fighting each other, in order to drive up the ratings.
***the great part is that unlike how BSG's cast grew unreasonable large in season 3 (You promised us a "meat grinder to thin the herd"...that NEVER happened...) there can only be *twelve* cast members, so we'll have better characterization.
And the good part is that if there are no guns or battles, no one EXPECTS guns or battles on a NASA ship story; everyone is expecting huge battles on Caprica but will be disappointed.

Why do people still let fox air their shows. Family Guy said it better than I can in saying that way too many shows just cant make it on fox ("well, if all of those shows fall through, we might have a shot"). I mean, I'm not too sure I like the show's premise, but at least find a broadcaster who will give it it's due chance.

Another steaming video abortion from the unimaginative Hack mind of Moore Ron.
These are the voyages of the Starship Enter... oops Phaeton, it's 5 year, oops, 10 year mission to boldly go where no one has ever gone, well, they've been to the Holodeck before, but hey, we're gonna make this Dark, and Gritty. you know, a Mosaic, or a tapestry of Dysfunction and Angst....
Hey Ron, why not do something you've NEVER done before, ah, like write something ORIGINAL...
What a frigging hack

I just wonder why he didn't pitch it to SciFI. Sounds like they would do anything for him.
