Being Human—about the secret lives of three twentysomethings as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost—debuts on BBC America on July 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner star as housemates trying to live normal lives, despite their strange and dark secrets.
George (Tovey) and Mitchell (Turner) work in anonymous drudgery as hospital porters. They lead lives of quiet desperation under the burden of a terrible secret: Mitchell's a vampire and George a werewolf. Deciding to start life afresh and leave behind the dark side, they move into a house, only to find that Annie, the ghost of a woman killed in mysterious circumstances, haunts it.

Oh, my God! I love this show. This is my favourite BBC show. I've been waiting for months for this to come to America. I LOVED this when it was on in the UK back in January. This is the best Urban Fantasy TV series I've seen in years. Too bad BBC America will probably cut it to shreds. Oh, well, at least it means there will be a region 1 DVD release. I can't wait for Season (series) 2. I love this show!
The description in this article does not do it justice. The supernatural protagonists are all living metaphors for social disorders. It's not a comedy, despite the premise. It's actually a very well done and serious drama with a few funny parts tossed in. The writing is incredible. The effects are the best I've seen (especially with the werewolf transformations). I strongly recommend this to anyone who likes urban fantasy where supernatural creatures secretly walk among us. This is surprisingly intense and each episode leaves you on edge for what happens next.

I live in the UK and was lucky enough to catch this when it was on here. To all you folks in America, I highly recommend you watch this.
The characters and the world they inhabit are so rich. Personally my favourite character is George but they're all great. There is great drama as well as lighter funny moments.
If you don't tune in, then you'll be missing out. I can't wait for Series 2.

Hmm. I'll take your word on it and give the premiere a chance, but I'll tell you, I'd be giving it a wide berth just based on the premise described above.

It does sound very stupid, but I am going to check it out. I have been really liking sci-fi from the BBC over the past few years.

It's a lot more complex than the description in this article makes it seem.
Mitchell (the vampire) is a hundred or so years old and trying to function as a human and over come his vampiric instincts. His maker, Herrick, is trying to get him to accept his vampire nature and join him in a dark and mad ambition.
George is a young man whom two years earlier was cursed to werewolfism after a mishap in Scotland. Werewolves are the outcasts of supernatural society and he meets Mitchell when Mitchell protects him from some territorial and racially biggotted vampires.
George and Mitchell rent a flat together that turns out to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman named Annie. The circumstances of her death are very mysterious and there are hints that she was in an abusive relationship.
The plots become very complex and intricate and very well done. It's sort of like Dark Shadows meets Dresden Files meets Forever Knight but not at all as corny as it sounds in that mesh. It's dark, intense and also has some wonderfully witty funny scenes.

i was fortunate enough to see this show. it does sound silly when you just take the premise on face value, a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost all as roommates. but it is anything but silly. it is a great show and i can't wait for season 2. everyone should give it a try, it's great.

I'll give it a look. I remember thinking the premise for "Firefly" sounded stupid, but man did it ever turn out to be a great show to follow along with bated breath. Then the idiots of network television stepped in and showed thier true I.Q.

The premise to Firefly NEVER sounded stupid...just sayin.

You won't be disappointed. Being Human is a lot better than it sounds. It's the most intelligent Urban Fantasy I've seen in years.

this is a great show . i caught the pilot on bbc3 a couple of years ago and was glad to see it return as a series . my betting is this will get remade for the american audiance like life on mars was . weather it will work ot not is another matter. . this is what buffy would have been like it we britts had produced it lol

I sincerely hope being Human won't be remade Americanized. The British version is golden. You'd take away the charm.

Love BBC America! Love Being Human! Doesn't get any better - well, except maybe for Twilight.
Did you hear about how well Twilight's DVD sales are expected to do?

I know, I know the premise sounds like the start of a bad joke. "A Vampire, a Werewolf and a Ghost walk into a bar" 'cos at one point they actually do [maybe that was the pilot]. But I kid you not, if you give it a chance you will be rewarded. Currently my favorite BBC show

Being human is so much better than you think it will be - my first wonder was if the whole trio which included a ghost!? would work, but it really does. I wish they were showing this primetime! I dont have cable, so have been watching it online... you can find the first episode here http://ilovewerewolves.com/werewolf-tv/
