Edward James Olmos, who directed the upcoming DVD movie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, told an audience of fans that the film will deliver exactly what they expect it to: The Plan shows the Cylons' perspective on their attempted genocide of humanity.
"I gotta tell you, not to give anything away, it is exactly what you think it is," Olmos said in a panel discussion Thursday night in Hollywood as part of the Los Angeles Times series The Envelope. "You see the complete opposite of the first 281 days of what we went through, ... seen through the eyes of the Cylons, and it is breathtaking. It's fantastic. It's not fun, but I will say that you will sit there [gasping]."
Perhaps The Plan will also drive sales of BSG complete-season DVDs. "Basically, you will go back to see the series again," Olmos said. "I couldn't have imagined this kind of a situation happening at the end of a show, where you would actually start at the beginning. That's a masterful piece of understanding, Ron [Moore]. Genius. Because after you see The Plan, you'll want to go back and view the whole series again."
The DVD release of The Plan will feature more than 30 minutes of additional Cylon perspective than will air in the version that will air on SCI FI. "The Plan is 2 hours and 6 minutes long the way you're going to have it on the DVD. When you see it aired, it's going to be 88 minutes."
Olmos gave credit to writer Jane Espenson, who wrote the entire script, and his lead actor. "I have to tell you right now, Dean Stockwell is a brilliant artist," Olmos said. "He does a magnificent job of leading The Plan. The Plan is exactly that. It was how they planned to do what they did and what happened. It was monumental. All I can tell you is it's an extraordinary look at the Cylons, how they masterminded what they did."
Battlestar Galactica: The Plan is due in the fall.

Cool...can't wait.Is starbuck in it?she is hot!

I can't wait to see this , I wish they would sell the dvd before the tv episode because I would buy it immediately.

You're just milking every last drop out of that cash cow aren't you? I mean in all honesty (in my opinion) the show kinda sucked. It was a bright shiny platinum coated piece of poop, but in the end it was still a piece of poop, and not what remains of a delicious Thanksgiving feast either, it was once a piece of leathery chicken served on an Airplane. BSG is like one of those vegetable people on life support, you're hoping that every muscle spasm is a sign their with you, but in reality an actual vegetable has more conscious thoughts. Pull the plug on the guy already!
By Muldfeld at 8:22 AM ON 06/05/09
OMG. I am more excited about this than anything else in my life -- more than my fracking approaching graduation! And more footage shot by a brilliant director? I'm buying this thing as soon as it comes out to get this and encourage Sci Fi and Universal to make more BSG TV movies -- as long as Felix Alcala never directs one again!
I can't wait!
By cylonphoenix at 12:49 PM ON 06/05/09
I cannot wait!!! BSG was and is by far my favorite body of work thus far. Thank you BSG for such a rocky and passionate love affair. Looking forward to "The Plan" as our wonderful breakup sex. ha.
@Sorry to say this.....if you think it's such crap, and you are so terribly sick of it....why in the world are you reading this article? If you don't like it, ignore it.

I still have no answers as to how starbuck came back from the dead & why she suddenly vanished in fornt of Apollo & how the Dream Gaius & Dream six were still alive in the last shot. Please dont say angels or demons, I'm looking for a legitimate answer that makes sense. I just dont get it.
By Baff at 4:06 PM ON 06/05/09
@Joe - If you don't like angels/demons, then just think of them as advanced aliens that are meddling with the progression of humanity. Same thing basically.
By Muldfeld at 4:14 PM ON 06/05/09
"Sorry to say this," why don't you tell me why you didn't like the show and which shows you do like and why? Seriously, I'm just curious. I LOVE BSG, except some mess ups they made in Season 4 by not doing enough politics and very little with Lee Adama in 4.5, because it really spoke to my life and sense of identity and the world in which we live and all kinds of pertinent historical and political questions we should be grappling with if we want to understand the world's problems and reduce conflict in this world. It also forces the viewer to examine his or her own life. Ira Steven Behr does the same thing.
Joe ASAP, I think it's a beautiful idea because it means she really died in Season 3 and all those tears that I and so many others shed weren't in vain. She only came back to fulfill her mission, but not to live her life as she wanted or to be happy. That's the real tragedy.
I guess it's supposed to be like a precursor to so many myths or religious views we have of a person dying and a higher power bringing them back. What's also cool is how Starbuck is also screwed up and quite mean, so she's not perfect. It's almost like our religions or myths simplify things, but this shows her as a complicated person.
Perhaps there's a hierarchy of angels. I know you don't want to hear that, but I guess the show was reaching for something spiritual and how could we the viewers relate to it if it was completely explained away. I was quite moved when she just disappeared.
By Muldfeld at 4:19 PM ON 06/05/09
I just read that it's coming out in September! Whoohoo! I thought we'd have to wait until late November or something. This is the best news I've heard in a while! I can't fracking wait! And 30 more minutes! Yes!
By Jose at 7:11 PM ON 06/05/09
In my humble opinion the show was going awesome until the whole starbuck mess, the writers dropped the ball on that oneIt kinda fracked everithing up to me. I honestly thought that Kara was somehow Tigh's daughter, honestly, all the way to the end. And what about the original Earth was all cylon? You never explained that one, who left the fracking markers and what's with the song? was Jimi Hendrix a Cylon? jajjja c'monthere where just too many loose ends way too many. I even thought there was another set of cylons (Billy, Dualla and maybe even Cally) I am one of those who was left with more questions than answers after the final episode. One final thing, so D'anna stayed on earth all alone? didn't watch that episode but it would seem to me that she should have had something more to do with the show than just sitting on Earth. Oddly enough I miss the lawyer (Romo) the most, hey! how about exploring more of him in a future movie, c'mon tie up some loose ends!!!!

As an older fan who watched the original BSG series, I often wondered if/when Ron Moore was going to involve the Lords of Light in the plot. The brilliance of what he did blew me away: they were involved from the very beginning, just in a much more subtle and mysterious manner.
By Syberwolf at 9:18 AM ON 06/06/09
I can't wait...some new BSG....with Olmos at the helm it should be great. I wish they would include it with the complete series that will be coming out. Oh well, just happy to see some more BSG. Although I agree the ending to the TV series was all over the place and did not seem to fit with the rest of the show. The series as a whole though gets an A+.
By ERNMAN1 at 8:58 PM ON 06/06/09
Since BSG ENDED I HAVE NOT WATCHED SCIFI MUCH BUT I WILL WATCH THE PLAN. YOU NEED TO START THE BSG SEASONS OVER I COULD WATCH THEM OVER AND OVER. EXCELLENT TV SERIES.
By Ernie11 at 11:18 PM ON 06/06/09
Well for those who are HUNGERING for more BSG related Media I SUGGEST you go pick up the 1st 3 issues of The 4 Part Final Five mini-series. It answers alot of questions about certain' characters from the series as well as what happened on Kobal & Earth
By Noneofyourbusiness at 1:12 PM ON 06/07/09
Yes, The Final Five comic is very interesting.
"Sorry to say this", you are free to dislike Battlestar Galactica as much as you want, but there are hundreds of people who very much want to see this movie. I don't see the point in raining on their parade by saying it shouldn't be made. After all, it's being made for them.
By NibblerSA at 12:37 PM ON 06/08/09
Hundreds of people who very much want to see this movie? Nonsense!! There are Hundreds of THOUSANDS of us!! YEAHHH!! Bring it on!!
By sumdog at 12:48 PM ON 06/08/09
I really love BSG; best Sci-Fi TV Series I've ever seen. Period. Star Trek, SeaQuest, etc. none of them have anything on the new BSG.
I think this perspective will be awesome. I hope it goes through it starting with the final five and goes through to the Olympic carrier incident.
It would be interesting to see why they were following the fleet every 30 minutes and what really happened to the carrier.
By ionia23 at 2:27 PM ON 06/08/09
I am exceptionally grateful they are providing us with more 'goodies'. I've got the popcorn ready for the premiere.
best frakkin' sci-fi series since Babylon 5.
By cinnomonbay at 2:40 PM ON 06/08/09
Bring it on! Gosh, I cannot wait. This is the 'Gone With The Wind' of Sci-Fi! I hope that David Moore realizes the potential of Battlestar Galactica becoming greater yet. Bring it back, David!
By Jene at 2:57 PM ON 06/08/09
It's completely irrelevant because the entire premise of the entire reimagined BSG series is that "god" did it.
By PJ at 4:39 PM ON 06/08/09
I was hoping I would never have to look at Laura Roslin's face again
By Creox at 6:00 PM ON 06/08/09
I agree with Jene. I loved the first two seasons and the mini but it went downhill after that. Olmos talks about us wanting to watch the series over again after the Plan. I know I won't be because I know that the whole series was directed by a deus ex machina plot line. Let's just say that it leaves me cold. I might like the Plan but the ending of BSG made the whole experience irrelevent.
By JMz at 6:50 PM ON 06/08/09
The show SUCKED?
No pal, you suck. You actually take the time to post about a tv show you DON"T LIKE?
Douchebag.

BSG was my family's get together night TV best series. The Plan will unite us again briefly. I cannot wait! We all loved it. I admit there are loose ends. SciFi's cancellation probably caused the loose ends to remain that way. The religion principle in the series left an open question mark for us to ponder our own ideas so I had no problem with all the different views and the primitive people at the end (evolution),
Anyway, I am happy with our Freedom of Speech so a negative post is just that - negative. Name calling falls under free speech but it is immature. A different opinion is not justifiable for insults.
By Kamic at 7:36 AM ON 06/09/09
season 1 was the best.. the rest kinda sucked.
By RonMooreSucks at 5:16 PM ON 06/09/09
Siding with the negative comments above: I really wish they had pulled the plug on this series after season 2. Naming it "The Plan" does not detract from the fact the writers had no plan with this series. It has no re-watchable value what so ever. BSG is dead to me and Craprica will never display 1 pixel on my tv. It ended as an epic failure.
@JMz: Anyone that invested the time to watch BSG (Battlesnore GalactiSuck) has the right to post their opinions. No one is forcing you to read the comments, douche. Sadly no, BSG only rules if you are a simpleton and content with spaghetti thrown at a wall.
By Anafiel at 11:40 AM ON 06/10/09
Wow, I guess @RonMooreSucks realized that HE couldn't have a 6 in his head, so he's taking it out on everyone else that enjoyed the series.
Just goes to show the mindset of the pre-teen audience....
By BSGFan09 at 11:54 AM ON 06/11/09
I think each season had highs and lows but overall I loved it...right up until the end. I just can't get past the Starbuck ending. The ghost 6 and Baltar I can live with since no one really saw them but Starbuck physically interacted with people. The Plan should be good then as its as far from the ending as possible
By pillbug at 9:48 PM ON 07/19/09
wow i love this show lol i can't wait but i only watched scifi because of bsg and now i have no idea when it will be on.... i don't want to miss it !!!!!
By droch feola at 3:08 AM ON 07/29/09
BSG was absolutely unreal for me.i got the pilot episode off a friend and was HOOKED straight away.even the parts i couldnt understand, overall it was truly an experience.so much show the i went out and bought a state of the art pc to play sci fi games online.i cant wait for this.i felt an epmtiness when it finished
By Skiman at 7:30 PM ON 07/30/09
Season 4 was radical, and I thought it was the best one, this could have been due to watching the first 3 in rapid succession, then having to wait a damn long time for the final ten episodes
By Love BSG at 10:57 AM ON 08/10/09
If persons watch the original BSG, then i think what people think is loose end will be cleared up. I think that Ron Moore stayed true to the original concept but from a different angle.
One thing i was thinking though is that after all the ships were flown into the sun, Adama had a raptor which he used to transport laura. What happen with this vessel? Will it be found by someone in the future and open the stars to mankind again. Also weren't there some more survivors on caprica. I see a lot of possibilities for a new series set in the future.

ouch.. gotta see this. I think there would be only 1 or 2 shows in the entire genre [yes, I think it defined a new genre] which I wouldn't call superb.
Nice to see scifi as an artform again.. remember the first time you saw Alien or '2001' ? I felt that with this series when I discovered it late last year. extremely addictive.
I think Razor was particularly tight [tighly scripted, action, timing, drama, resolution], due to the format... and so its likely that this focused 2hr retrospective will also deliver.
More Boomer yay.. actually Ed, while were having this chat, how about writing Stephanie Jacobsen back onto the screen... be still my beating heart :]
