USA Today has posted the first image of Iron Man 2 star Mickey Rourke in costume as the villainous Ivan/Whiplash (click through to see the full image).
Whiplash sports a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the repulsor tech used by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).
"The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film," director Jon Favreau told the newspaper.
The character's alter ego, Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who has constructed his own version of a suit. Among the creative alterations: a pair of whips, powered by the suit's glowing chest piece, expected to keep Iron Man cracking.
This first image of the character shows the villain making an appearance at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
Iron Man 2 opens May 7, 2010.

Wait a sec... Ivan VANKO... as in Anton Vanko, the original Crimson Dynamo? Okay, I guess this guy really is an amalgamation of Whiplash and the Crimson Dynamo. Honestly, I would've preffered they just stuck to one of the characters and used influences from the other. Oh well, maybe if Vanko here survives the films he can upgrade his suit into the Crimson Dynamo suit in a future movie. Here's hoping.

I'm guessing that there are some CGI elements that are going to be added to this image. Cause right now it looks less Iron Man and more Road Warrior.

Seems unlikely.

so, right now it looks like any patrolman could take him out with a couple well aimed shots... maybe its not his full suit?

This is so gonna suck, Jon has lost his focus, he's now channeling that bad Dr. Strange movie from the 70's.

'The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film," director Jon Favreau told the newspaper.'
So I'm guessing there's some sort of "proliferation" genie out of the bottle angle here. Whiplash/Dynamo's suit is cruder, but based on similar principles put forth by Stark/Iron Man, making the hero responsible, etc. etc.
Maybe I'm reading too much into that line, but it'd be an interesting hook.
As far as the look, I'm still expecting cruder, but keep in mind Downey doesn't wear a full suit when they shoot him in it either. This could also be a prototype of whatever Whiplash ultimately wears in the inevitable climatic fight between the too.
That said, as is, Iron Man could win this fight with the same high altitude finish he used in the last movie, this time relying on oxygen depletion instead of icing.

Proliferation? As in Iron Wars, where Tony went nuts and started tracking down everybody who used his designs without permission?
By Marty B. at 1:03 AM ON 06/10/09
@dmonaco Kinda, but generally when people use "proliferation" in a discussion of arms control and production, they're talking more about global security/stability than intellectual property.

I would think that they decided that going with " Crimson Dynamo" as the villain for the second film would make for a stale "been-there-done-that" movie with IM facing yet ANOTHER armored knock-off.
Unlike some that I have read automatic negative reactions from; I`ll wait to see the movie .

I don't know the Iron Man comic books so maybe this is very faithful to the comic, but it looks more like an exo-skeleton for someone paralysed than a kickass powersuit for a villain.
You'd think someone as mean looking as Mickey Rourke wouldn't need an exo-skeleton to kick some ass. And as intersect said above, it would only take a single bullet from any old cop to take him out.
I shouldn't judge it on just one image though, I'll wait and see how the trailers look.

Everybody hold your horses. The comments about the movie not being good were said last time by people and yet the movie turned out great. These are just set photos. we DON'T KNOW what context it is in. As with Iron Man's armour, it was a evolution of design. Please hold your decisions about the film until you actually see it.
I am tired of seeing the same things on these posts. They said Star Trek would be bad and it was not. Please act like the adults you are and reserve judgement until you actually have something to judge!
This is my first, only, and last post!
