That prequel to Alien is in the works, but it may not be directed by Carl Rinsch, as previously reported.
Producer Tony Scott told Collider.com that Rinsch—whose ads for German electronics company Saturn are known for their futuristic flourishes—was his and brother Ridley Scott's choice to direct the movie in his feature-film debut. (Rinsch's selection is complicated by the rumor that he's romantically involved with Ridley Scott's daughter, Jordan, also a commercial director.)
But Entertainment Weekly reports that 20th Century Fox is not interested in green-lighting a prequel unless Ridley Scott himself directs. Scott and his reps didn't respond to EW's calls for comment.
Stay tuned ...

Good, maybe they'll never and it'll get canceled. The 4th movie already ruined the franchise enough already, why make it worse!

The only reason another ALIEN movie should be made is to redeem itself from that last horrible one that escaped (it wasn't released IMO)

I'm all for a prequel, I mean seriously aren't you curious about who the space jockey is, did the aliens wipe them out? If thats the case than humanity does'nt stand a chance, because the space jockey race are obviously superior, I mean they are frigging GIANTS! This movie will be spectacular, but the studio only wanting to work with Ridley is lame, I mean the guy is 72 years old maybe he could executive produce if he's unable to direct. Also Cameron said he'd come back if Ridleys involved so Fox, there is your solution, instant millions, box office gold.

Just because they're massive doesn't make them any more likely to fare well against aliens. After all, the aliens take the form (to some extent) of whatever they gestate in, so giant hosts = equally giant aliens.
Are you seriously suggesting that Ridley Scott is too old to direct a movie? Because that's pretty insane. The Scotts have been putting out movies like clockwork over the last few years, and I don't see any drop-off in quality. As for the involvement of Cameron, I don't see that working out. From what they've said so far about this intended prequel, it's supposed to be very similar in tone (perhaps *too* similar) to the original Alien; i.e. a horror/thriller in space. This is not the type of assignment suited for Cameron. Save the inevitable summer blockbuster follow-up with energy weapons & excess vizFX for him.

Why does everyone always trashtalk A4? I liked it. Sure it was the worst in the series, but it was still good. My only complaint was the Aliens themselves, and their terrible updated look.
I hope they do make this movie, and rather than erase the memory of A4, it erases the memory of the 2 AVP movies which were terrible.
Ridley Scott or James Cameron need to take the helm of this movie and reboot the series.

Really, most folks think Resurrection was the worst? I'd say Alien, Aliens, Resurrection, A3 from best to worst. When I was a teen I would've said Aliens, Alien, Resurrection, A3.
Anyone like the new book Dark Horse is putting out?
Mikymik, so Scotts' 72, so what? His track record over the past decade is better than most young directors out there.

I have no problem with Ridley directing this movie. I'm glad he is happy to chuck it a debutant, but Scott directing himself would be a much happier scenario for me.

I only have Alien & Aliens in my collection.
The others don't exist.
However a good prequel would be welcomed:)
