Dimension Films has struck a deal with John Landis for the remake rights to his 1981 cult-classic horror comedy An American Werewolf in London, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bloody-Disgusting.net first reported that Landis was in talks to sell the remake rights. Here's what the trade paper reported:
Landis wrote and directed the comedy-horror film, which starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American backpackers hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a mysterious animal who turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton ends up terrorizing London while Dunne is a reanimated corpse suggesting ways for Naughton to kill himself and stop the curse. No writer or director is on board, but Dimension and the producers hope to make an elevated genre picture that will keep the fun comedy elements of the original as it seeks to be relevant to contemporary audiences. Landis ... will act as an [executive] producer and possibly consult.

I'm sure John will do the right thing. The original was his "baby"...so I don't think he would allow the remake to totally lose focus.

What Landis should do instead is a 3rd film. How about "An American Werewolf in Venice"? Or maybe "An American Werewolf in Berlin"? But having the same company that made "Cursed" do this remake is a huge mistake.

If they don't keep the music of the original it will be a dud
