Kathy Bates and Tim Curry are among the stars cast in SCI FI's upcoming four-hour movie event Alice, whose production has just begun in Vancouver, Canada, with an eye to a December debut.
Bates stars as the Queen of Hearts, and Curry is Dodo in the movie event, a modern-day spin on the classic stories by Lewis Carroll.
They join Caterina Scorsone as Alice, Colm Meaney as the King of Hearts, Philip Winchester as Jack of Hearts, Matt Frewer as the White Knight, Andrew Lee Potts as Hatter, Alessandro Juliani as 9 of Clubs, Timothy Webber as Carpenter, Alex Diakun as Ratcatcher, Zak Santiago as 10 of Clubs and Eugene Lipinski as Doctors Dee and Dum.
The movie centers on Alice Hamilton, a fiercely independent twentysomething who suddenly finds herself on the other side of a looking glass. She is a stranger in an outlandish city of twisted towers and casinos built out of playing cards, all under the rule of a deliciously devilish Queen who's not very happy about Alice's arrival.
Nick Willing wrote and directed Alice; he previously directed the Emmy-winning miniseries Tin Man for SCI FI in 2007.
Serving as executive producers are Matthew O'Connor and Lisa Richardson from Reunion Pictures, Jamie Brown from Studio Eight and RHI Entertainment's Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr.

So Scifi's giving the "Tin Man" treatment to another fantasy classic. Sounds cool!

Tim Man was much better in concept than execution. I hope Alice fares better.

Looking forward to the new 'Alice'. I wonder who they will get to play Mel, Flo, and Vera?

Okay, so this sounds 10x better than that original description SciFi used when the project was first announced.
Looking forward to it. Tin Man was not perfect, but great and enjoyable.

is this another one of those lets make a tv movie before the feature film comes out considering Tim Burton's version is due next year. Sounds Like another Tornado! vs Twister...

'Alice in Wonderland' does not need a '...modern-day spin...', it just needs to be treated with a little respect.

I got the impression that Tin Man was the bastard child of someone's original fantasy script and the Wizard of Oz; that when the original script wasn't selling, they mixed it up with the Wizard of Oz so that someone would buy it. Overall, I thought a much straighter "re-telling" (you know, something with the same basic storyline) would have been better.
Hopefully, Alice is much better.

Tin Man wasn't bad. It was enjoyable but if SciFi's version is anything like American McGee's or Zenescope's concepts, I'll be highly entertained.

Continue The Lost Room story. I like that one better.

@ AdmNaismith
Lewis Caroll was a creepy pedophile who fell in love with his friends 8 year old daughter, writing a story to woo her. They should stay as far away from him as they can!

I loved Tin Man. Highly entertaining. Look forward to this one. And Bates is a fabulous actress. Misery anyone?

I hate SciFi cheesy Saturday movies, but I always enjoy their December miniseries event. Love the Lost Room and Tin Man. Was really disappointed to see that they didn't do a movie last year. Will definitely look forward to watching. I just wish they did more mini series like this instead of all those lame Saturday movies.

I thought Tin Man was unwatchable, though interesting in concept. If it's the same team, I'm pretty wary, as a big fan of AiW. There have been tons of adaptations/stories inspired by AiW/TTLG and they are usually disappointing. One pretty successful one IMHO is Dreamchild, which addresses Lewis Carroll's somewhat creepy relationship with little girls.

I hope Alice has Flying RoboPreacher and a brain in a jar.
