New full trailer for \<i\>2012\<\/i\> shows that director Roland Emmerich really hates New York

How do you top yourself after you've frozen New York and had aliens blow up the White House?

How about pick New York up and smash it into the White House? That's not really what director Roland Emmerich has done, but he's come close in this new full trailer for his upcoming apocalyptic sci-fi disaster movie 2012, which you can view after the jump.

The trailer, which debuted on Yahoo!, raises the game for the maker of The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day with a scenario in which the entire world ends.

And is that a fleet of ark-like starships ready to take off from some top secret underground bunker? Say it ain't so ...

2012 opens Nov. 13.

Hmm. Spectacular, as usual from Emmerich.

Story? Derivative, as usual from Emmerich....

Has R.E. ever made a movie worth its admission price??

By shazan at 6:58 PM ON 06/18/09

As long as the effects arent over in the first half (ID4 and Day) and the script is halfway good, I will love it

By Cooper at 7:45 PM ON 06/18/09

It makes my skin itch just looking at the trailer, and not in a good way.

By Dashel at 7:47 PM ON 06/18/09

What is the director trying to say when he has an aircraft carrier named Kennedy crashed into the White House?

By Red Mask at 8:27 PM ON 06/18/09

Sure. I'll watch this.

By Melly at 8:47 PM ON 06/18/09

What is this? The Day After Independence Day? It just looks like an Emmerich "greatest hits" compilation from his previous movies. BORING!

By Azrael1122 at 8:51 PM ON 06/18/09

Wow. Looks cool.

By reeko at 9:02 PM ON 06/18/09

I'll wait for it to get to TBS, about 5 months frm the release date.

RE is so predictable bad.

I will not see it, because I value my brain cells.

The big problem with this film (other than it's stupid) is that there are a bunch of end of the world wackos out there who actually believe the world will end in 2012.

Emmerich is just feeding on their paranoia.

By Bewildered at 9:22 PM ON 06/18/09

Hmmm... Not unlike "When Worlds Collide" - end of the world, global destruction, arks, people fighting to get on the arks, etc.

Impressive effects, but a very grim-looking film.

By Artemis at 9:23 PM ON 06/18/09

Sheesh, how many disaster movies does he need to make?

By Markus at 10:05 PM ON 06/18/09

OMG. That looks fantastic. Emmerichs movies were always extremely flat on the story side, but the stories were at least interesting (with the exclusion of 10.000 BC). So as long as this movie has stunning visuals, I won't complain.

Let's just hope his "prophetic" vision isn't the real deal this time around. Humankind has feared the end of the world countless times before, but if you do your research you'll find that at no other time in history have cultures from around the world pointed to one single prediction-- everything from Nostradamus, to Edgar Casey, to the Mayans and Native Americans, to the Bible Codes, even scientific evidence of a global pole shift -and the list goes on. When so many separate cultures have all prophesied the same event hundreds and thousands of years ago..... there has got to be SOMETHING to it. I just hope it's not what Roland Emmerich seems to want to have happen (his life-long dream must be to see the end of the world before he dies!)

By skkye001 at 1:40 AM ON 06/19/09

wow!!!! can't wait looks way cool

By growger at 7:43 AM ON 06/19/09

Holy Smeg! That looks alsome. Makes me want to read the book.

By bifferzz at 11:04 AM ON 06/19/09

OOOHH AAWWHH....... Same old ,same old...
Mankind wont make it to 2010 if North Korea has its way. They should start popping off Nukes any day now....

By zo at 1:00 PM ON 06/19/09

All of this end of the world stuff is bull, of course, but the movie looks fun. Like all his films it will probably take a massive dose of suspension of disbelief, but I'll probably see it anyway.

By Alikhat at 4:02 PM ON 06/19/09

The trouble with all of Roland Emmerich's movies is that he spends tens of millions of dollars on the special effects and about $1.39 and a pack of minty life savers on the script. All eye-candy, zero brain content and the dumbest dialogue this side of an Ed Wood festival.

As for end of the world prophecies, there have been thousands of them down through the ages, they've ALL been failures and 2012 will be no different. Check out http://www.geocities.com/alma-geddon/index.html for a comprehensive list of all the kooks who've come and gone - and a smackdown of the 2012 nonsense as well.

By Uber Critic at 1:31 AM ON 06/20/09

Yes...Chewie is in this movie!!! The greatest working actor of his generation and ours, Chiwetel Ejiofor!!!

By xevious at 1:38 PM ON 06/20/09

Looks amazing. The Day After Tomorrow was preposterous in its scale and timeline (although global warming is real!) but the effects were great and it had a heart in its characters. I'm sure this will be the same. Of course the world won't end in two years. Nothing wrong with a fun disaster movie. Not sure how anyone could make another one after this one though. This film blows up everything. I can't wait!!

By tinmiss at 3:23 PM ON 06/20/09

Looks like a prequel to Waterworld (95) to me!!! Although, it looks like a pretty cool movie to me.

By movielovers at 10:30 PM ON 06/21/09

Looks like a pretty good movie! Of course, he had to make another 1. He's good @ them. We loved ID4 & really liked The Day After 2morrow. I don't think he's feeding on the paranoia as he's just getting the $ makin part of it.

Ppl like, even love, disaster movies (i.e. look how well Titanic did!). They make us think & feel, even it's just 4 the few hrs during and/or after.

ID4 was definitely worth the ticket, at least we thought so.

By IsoTek at 3:49 PM ON 06/24/09

OMG! I want to see it so bad I'm gouging my eyes out. Can we just call him Irwin Allen already. Why they felt the need to remake "When Worlds Collide" in this fashion is beyond me but knowing me, I will probably get bored enough to see it. On second thought it's got John Cusack, better just wait the 6 months after for it to come on TBS.

By Wolftech at 1:27 PM ON 06/26/09

I generally like Roland Emmerich's movies. If this is half as good as it looks, he will ALMOST have made up for that POS Godzilla movie(By far, his worse movie). Almost.
