New images of Sam Worthington from Clash of the Titans

New images of Sam Worthington from \<i\>Clash of the Titans\<\/i\>

Warner Brothers has released high-quality versions of images for Clash of the Titans, which originally appeared in Empire and Entertainment Weekly; see them after the jump.

The images show Sam Worthington as Perseus, who goes on a quest to save a princess and defeat Hades, the god of hell. Liam Neeson is playing Zeus, the wise yet sometimes ill-tempered king of the gods and father of Perseus, while Ralph Fiennes will play Hades, ruler of the underworld, who aims to overtake Zeus and rule over all. Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos have also been cast.

Clash of the Titans, directed by Louis Leterrier, is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name, which starred Harry Hamlin as Perseus and featured an all-star cast including Laurence Olivier, Claire Bloom and Maggie Smith. The remake opens in March 2010. (Click the thumbnails for larger versions. The photos are by Jay Maidment for Warner.)

"RELEASE THE KRACKEN"!

By Jeffny at 3:39 PM ON 06/06/09

Why do i get the feeling that this movie is going to bad? I really hope i'm wrong. Im a fan of the original, and Liam Neeson is one of my favorite actors, but this one could possibly end up at the bottom of the barrel with In The Name Of The King if not done right.

I almost get the vibe from these photos that they're heavily inspired by the 300. I loved the 300, as I do the original Clash of the Titans, but I'm thinking that a heavily violent version of this film will lack the heart and bravery that the story is supposed to portray. It could be good, for it's own merits, but the original was so sentimental with the old stop motion effects. We shall see...like all other remakes, it's best to view them as a new entity rather than a possible "wrecking" of a beloved franchise.

I am a fan of the original and I HATE YARM (yet another remake).
I will ever see this as I have finally decided to boycott all remakes.
I just wonder what H.Harryhausen would of thought of this move.

I loved the original, but I'd still like to see how this movie will work out. It seems that they are going in a pretty different direction, as I don't remember Hades being in the original. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them lose the robot owl sidekick. I hope to see something more substantial soon, as these pictures have so far been pretty underwhelming.

well Perseus & princess they got right, as for everything else i'm reading WRONG! why call it a remake if your completely changing the story. give it it's own name & maybe a few more people will see it but if your looking for an updated version just get the original & enjoy!

Sam is going to be FANTASTIC in this movie and I don't care that it's a remake! I saw the original and Sam can improve on it immensely just by being in it. He can act and that's a rare quality in a guy who looks this good. I'm glad he's going to be around for a long time in the film industry. Keep up the great work Sam-I'll be there watching!

wait and see.

I have to agree with jeffny I have a really bad feeling about this remake and I think that it is going to sink like the titanic.

By dakalmog at 12:29 AM ON 06/07/09

I'm not a big fan of the original, and I thought Louis Leterrier did a good job with The Incredible Hulk. I'm interested to see what he does with this.

i don't know why hollywood makes Hades out to be some satan character hell bent on taking over mount olympus or something when he's not, he's the ruler and keeper of the dead (i.e. the underworld) that is it.

I can't believe all this bitching about this movie, just because it's a remake. Someone even said it looks like it'll suck. But I can draw no such conclusion from these couple of stills. Well, I hope you feel good, crossing your arms and being angry. Count me in for seeing it. WITH ENTHUSIASM. I loved the original. It's nearly thirty years old now. I remake is okay at this point.

the guy that did the Titanic, Alien, Terminator 1 and 2 is directing this! come on guys James is amazing, he knows whats hes doing and he knows actors! Sam will rock in this movie and blow everyone away just like he did in Terminator Salvation. He made Christian Bale look bad!

Have a little faith people!

Hades is the God/Lord of the Underworld not Hell. The Greek Equivalent to Hell is Tartaris

By HanSown at 10:00 PM ON 06/08/09

Lari, while I like your sentiment, know that you've got your Worthington films mixed up. Easy to do, as he's becoming very popular.

Cameron (of Titanic, Alien, Terminator 1 and 2) is directing Avatar (his first film since mega blockbuster Titanic), which stars Worthington and is due out around Christmas 09. (Don't confuse it with Shyamalan's Avatar Airbender adaptation, or with the possible Battle Angel Alita anime adaptation Cameron has been linked to, as well.)

This post concerns a different movie starring Worthington. Clash of the Titans is being directed by the director of the recent Hulk "Reboot", the Incredible Hulk (starring Edward Norton).

I do agree that this film looks like it draws inspiration from 300 (and possibly Troy), but that's not a bad thing. Yes, it won't be heartwarmingly hokey like the original, but a good action drama about the Greek gods has been sorely lacking. Troy cut out the mythology, and though I may be forgetting something, I can't think of a mainstream appearance by the Greek gods since the Herc and Xena tv shows.

If the execs keep their meddling hands out of this and let Lettier have his way, it could turn out very well. The cast gives me much hope, and to whoever mentioned In the Name of the King, bite your tongue! Though shalt not mention Uwe Boll's works!
