Producer Don Murphy is ready to shop his We3 movie, about armored animals

Producer Don Murphy is ready to shop his \<i\>We3\<\/i\> movie, about armored animals

Don Murphy, who is producing a live-action film adaptation of the comic book We3, told SCI FI Wire that he has a script and a director: All he has to do now is sell it to a studio.

We3 is a Vertigo series about animals encased in weaponized armor who are part of a secret military program.

"We're working with a director named John Stevenson," Murphy said in an exclusive phone interview on Monday. "Don't be confused, though. Even though he directed Kung Fu Panda, the movie's going to be live action. It's going to be a combination CG, puppetry [and] real animals. We have a great script, a great director, and we're trying to figure out who's going to pay for it in this marketplace, but we're looking."

The animals in the comic book have limited vocal capabilities, but audiences should not expect the vocals of Dr. Dolittle, Babe or even Up. "Well, they talk like in the comic book," Murphy said. "There's a little electrode on their larynx, and they don't have full conversations. It's more like [in robotic monotone], 'Where go do we,' that kind of thing."

The similarly themed weaponized guinea-pig movie G-Force does not worry Murphy either. "G-Force is an animated film about animals talking and farting a lot," he said. (The film actually mixes animation and live action.) "This is very realistic."

Murphy added that he and his wife, producer Susan Montford, are developing an original film with their Shoot 'Em Up director, Michael Davis. "Susan and I are working on a project with him that we're getting ready to take to town, which is set in a world in which everything that you loved in spy movies is real," he said. "So everybody wears white jackets and drinks martinis. It's very cool, so we're working on that."

Just please, don't make this cute! For this to work as a movie, it needs to be as violent as the comic... Will be looking forward to this movie.

The graphic novel is fantastic! Very moving, and you really feel for the three central characters. I wonder how much of the violence will make it into the film.

They had better not cut down on the violence or this will be just another load of bullocks!

Yeah, i agree...It was a VERY violent tale!!...They better NOT downgrade it for a PG-13 audience....It´s about time someone did something other than DC or MARVEL Comics CRAP that has been done and re-done to DEATH!!

I am so excited for this.

Very glad to hear they are keeping the electronic speech patterns. That should translate really well on screen and emphaise the point that these are not cute fluffy Disney animals. i'm really looking forward to this!
