Robot Chicken writer will draft the new Short Circuit remake

Dimension Films has tapped Robot Chicken writer Dan Milano to draft the script for Short Circuit, the remake of the 1986 sci-fi comedy, Variety reported.

The original movie was about Number 5, an armed robot who acquires a personality after a lightning strike and seeks the help of humans to prevent his destruction by the military.

Milano writes and provides voices for the Adult Swim cartoon Robot Chicken and co-created and played the title character on TV's Greg the Bunny. He will bring a subversive edge to the original film, which was written by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock.

David Foster, who produced the original and is back to produce the remake with Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde, said that Milano first watched the original while he was in high school and sparked to updating the concept.

I just re-watched the original a few weeks ago for a class I'm taking. The original is admittedly a classic, but I also wouldn't consider it an "untouchable great." They did make a sequel already, actually, and it didn't work. A remake could be watchable...

Wait, what?

Come up with something new or go home!!

I am lost for words here! Remake, remake, remake.....What happened to original thought?? If its bad enough there are too many sequels to everything - now its rehashing old films. Is it because they are regarded as a "safe" investment???

Like a lot of planned remakes - the original wasn't really up to much to start with.

Come ON!! Lets have something NEW and DIFFERENT and ORIGINAL!!

Not another remake... this is just pathetic.

NO REMAKE JOHNY 5

Color me dubious. I mean I dunno. "updating the concept"? Should I choose to distrust this new movie proposal because they clearly intend to tamper with Johnny 5, or should I choose to distrust this new movie proposal because they obviously don't know what they really want to do yet? Choices, choices.

*shrug*

I'll wait for the trailers to come out, if the movie gets that far. Then I'll judge.

Anybody get a sense of deja vu when watching Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines? I mean the T-1's look exactly like (well almost like) Johnny-5. Does anybody else see this?
