Former Stargate SG-1 star Michael Shanks will appear in an episode of SCI FI's Sanctuary in its upcoming second season, Shanks' managers at JDS in Los Angeles told SCI FI Wire.
Shanks reunites with his former SG-1 co-star Amanda Tapping, who stars in and produces Sanctuary, in episode 209, entitled "Penance," which begins filming next week in Vancouver, Canada; he'll play a character named Jimmy.
Shanks will also be seen in an episode of SCI FI's upcoming Stargate Universe, reprising the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson.
Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping), a brilliant scientist who holds the secrets of a clandestine population—a group of strange and sometimes terrifying beings that hide among humans. Along with forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), they seek to protect these threatened phenomena as well as unlock the mysteries behind their existence.
Sanctuary returns with 13 new episodes in the fall.

Sanctuary has a chance of being a decent show, at least for scifi channel. How about a longer season, to give the series a chance at some character and story developement.
Come on scifi, dont be cheap. Your scifi, not the ghosts and wrestlers channel

Dang! I suppose it's an appropriate ep name then if Shanks is in it. Crosses that episode off the list to be watched.

YAY! Great news! I love Michael Shanks! Not fond of "Sanctuary" (very boring), but will watch if he is in it! Hopefully it will hold me over until "Stargate Universe" and the next Stargate DVD.

I really tried, but couldn't get into Sanctuary. I'll watch it if Michael Shanks is on it, though.

Love Sanctuary - it's one of the better shows on SciFi and Amanda Tapping is a great.

i'm a gatefan but never thought much of shanks till the season finally of Burn Notice. what a performance!! will definately watch for him in more cameos.

I second lambertamr. That epi of Burn Notice confirmed Michael Shanks has chops. Deserves more than the occasional guest role.

I LOVE Sanctuary and agree with Gorehound-it needs a longer run. Robin Dunne is sexy and so is Chris Heyerdahl in a dark way. Where are the reruns? Hopefully they will have a marathon before the second season starts.

Excellent news. Shanks is too good an actor to be allowed to gather dust.

Man O Man....I will watch any show if the gorgeous Michael Shanks is going to be in it. A fantastic actor as well!!

Um, if it took a guest episode to prove he has chops, what does that say about what he mostly brought to the table in 9 years (and a few guest eps) and two movies with Daniel Jackson?
I'm not so happy. Let's hope they hide him under make-up and he beings his A-game, not his If I Have To game.

Sanctuary is interesting, but they need to upgrade their FX, the computer graphics are downright embarrassing sometimes...
By padina at 11:02 AM ON 06/11/09
OMG!!! Why does he sell himself so cheap?
By sb at 11:53 AM ON 06/11/09
Because he's not worth more?
Well, at least we can trust the story will be interesting. Sanctuary has really knocked it out of the park many times.

Sanctuary is easily the best show Scifi has now that Battlestar's gone. I'm very much looking forward to this.

You could save a lot of development effort if you just picked up The Sarah Connor Chronicles. You have a huge hole now that BSG is gone

i loved to watch all the stargate series. i then switched to Sanctuary. i met michael in 2003 in London's victoria docks, excel centre. he was a very caring and kind to his fans. i think i am the first person to have the stargate earth sign on my left upper arm. i had it done in march 2003. not met amanda or the others yet, because of illness on my part. timing and amandas pregnancy in 2005. hope to do it next time she is coming to the uk. i have heard how much goodness she does. the scifi channel should set up confrences for different tv shows, it would go down well
