G-Force star Will Arnett thinks it's a Bruckheimer movie for kids
The upcoming animated and live-action talking-guinea-pig movie G-Force is a high-powered movie in the mold of producer Jerry Bruckheimer's adult actioners such as Enemy of the State and National Treasure, but for kids.
That's the assessment of co-star Will Arnett, who plays one of the few live-action adults in the movie. Which is appropriate, since Bruckheimer actually produced the movie.
"I kind of liken it to, ... it's just like a kid's movie, Bruckheimer-style," Arnett said of the movie. "It's just a big, fun movie for the entire family."
The 3-D film, which marks the directorial debut of veteran special-effects pro Hoyt Yeatman, follows a group of heroic animal secret agents tasked with saving the world from the machinations of a no-good human billionaire (Bill Nighy). The title animal squad, called G-Force, includes the guinea pigs Darwin (voiced by Sam Rockwell), Blaster (Tracy Morgan) and Juarez (Penelope Cruz), as well as the fly Mooch (Edwin Louis) and the mole Speckles (Nicolas Cage). As the adventure unfolds, they encounter the pet-shop guinea pig Hurley (Jon Favreau) and the hamster Bucky (Steve Buscemi).
"Actually, Zach Galifianakis and Bill Nighy and I are the live-action component of that movie," Arnett (Monsters vs. Aliens) said in a recent interview on the set of his latest movie, Jonah Hex. "I play kind of an FBI [agent] who discovers this secret program, and I want to shut it down. And then we get enmeshed with Bill Nighy, who's trying to rule the world. Zach Galifianakis [The Hangover] plays this bumbling [guy], which he is. He's a bumbling idiot."
G-Force opens nationwide on July 24.

I am surprised that the creators of 'Battle of the Planets' which had a team named 'G-Force' have not sued yet.

I agree with MoonDevil, when I first heard of G-Force, I said great if Transformers could be done so could this. But it is now a disappointment. I really enjoyed Battle of the Planets, along with the other Japanese imports of the 80's.

Imagi Studios (the guys who did TMNT and the upcoming Astroboy) are doing the adaptation of what we call Battle of the Planets, and sticking with the original name, Gatchaman. Guess they figure they don't need to fight aboout it.

Regardless, I am actually pretty excited to see this movie. Once I saw Jerry Bruckheimer's name attached to this project, I was hooked. I think G-Force could stand for a lot of things and maybe they didn't think it would stir up all this confusion? The clips I have seen from this movies so far look pretty funny. I can see kids thinking this is a riot.
