What Megan Fox has to say about those Lara Croft Tomb Raider rumors
Megan Fox, the starlet who adds femme power to the Transformers franchise, is a popular name bandied about to take over Angeline Jolie's role of adventurer Lara Croft in a proposed Tomb Raider reboot.
And there's no doubt Croft's spandex shorts, pistols and boots would suit Fox.
Alas, the comely brunette actress denied that she is officially connected to the role, speaking after a press conference for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen last week in Beverly Hills, Calif. Fox told a cluster of reporters that it's a complete rumor. No one has offered her the role of Lara Croft or even spoken to her about it.
When Jolie was first cast as the video-game explorer, she so inhabited the role of the English-aristocrat-turned-kick-ass-archaeologist that it helped drive the first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider to a $47.8 million opening and a domestic gross of more than $131 million, spawning a franchise. Then Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life grossed only $65.7 million domestically and disappeared. Was it sequelitis or that unflattering winter garb?
Jolie recovered nicely from Lara Croft, going on to kick butt in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Wanted. But the impression she made on Tomb Raider is so great that Fox is too daunted even to consider an offer. But really, there's no offer. It's just a rumor.
"I think that's a role that Angelina Jolie mastered, and I would never attempt to take that over from her," Fox said.

Angie was good in the first Tomb Raider, but she is not Lara Croft. Rhona Mitra is.
The studio went for a big NAME (and fake boobs) to ensure tix sales, but Rhona not only looks the part of Lara, she also has the "it" factor edge to he - an attitude that yes Ang can do, but only as a good placeholder for the REAL thing!

gee, do u think u've made a big enough deal about Megan Fox throughout the multiple articles about her? she's just the current "hot chick". unless she starts showing some astounding acting abilites, i really dont see the big deal.

First let me say that I appreciate both Rhona Mitra and Angelina Jolie's and some of their movies.
Second, I agree that Rhona Mitra was the first model for Lara Croft, and believe they should have stuck with her for the movies rather than hire Angelina for her name/recognition.
However, just to get your faqs straight, Rhona has had a breast implant job from just before she modeled for Eidos as the inspiration for Lara Croft. Heck, her father is a renowned cosmetic surgeon and there were even rumors he did the work (though I don't believe substantiated).

Rhona Mitra would be the natural choice for Lara as she's much better suited to it.
The only problem with casting Mitra is that they want the next Tomb Raider to be an 'origin' story, and Mitra, while very athletic and aggressive and capable of playing Lara, doesn't exactly look like like a girl.
She's a fully grown woman, and I think they would go for someone with a younger look and that's probably more up the alley of someone like Megan Fox.
As for 'fake' or 'real' boobs, who really cares? Lara's impossibly built anyway AND a video game character to boot and her allure is specifically tailored for the post adolescent male. That is just part and parcel of the Lara Croft character and titilation is just a part of her, same as Conan's muscles or Kirk's womanizing. Remove the basic fundamental aspects from adapted characters damages the intellectual property and hurts the product in the end. With every adaptation, the filmmakers need to remember who and what the characters are.

If they want a bit of original story, make Megan Fox Laura Crofts daughter that would explain the woman/girl age thing that some are worried about. You could even have Angie do a cameo in the movie as well.

JustTheFaqs and Taiso I think the fake breasts comment was related to the fact that Jolie wore a top with fake breasts built-in rather than a dig at breast implants. Oh, and Kirk wasn't a womanizer. Womanizers cheat. A womanizer would sleep with his best friend's wife if he thought she was hot. Does that sound like Kirk?
And Megan Fox would be a poor choice for Lara. Does anyone think she'd be able to pull off an English accent? She's not even convincing as an 18 year-old girl from the US.
