It is pretty inexcusable that Battlestar got no acting or drama nominations. Just goes to show that SF viewers and Academy members are two different groups.

Good to see Michale Emerson get nominated for Lost, though. Too bad Shatner got another one.

By David M. at 4:28 PM ON 07/16/09

This just shows how out of touch this "Academy" is. The same old shows again and again. You can't look at the list of nominees see that the creativity and caliber of acting and writing is unbiasedly recognized.

Eddie, Mary and Katee, Ron Moore and Bear McCreary are the real winners in my mind. (But that's my bias, I'm a Battlestar fan)

I can recognize the quality nominees here, I just wish that the "Academy" would think outside of the Big-Money Box.

And the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series goes to...
Battlestar Galactica.

So Say We All...So Say We All...

By CRDFilm at 5:06 PM ON 07/16/09

Sucks that BG couldn't muster any major nods for its last season. But while that and most genre shows are overlooked - except for LOST - there never seems to be any mention or wonder as to why SUPERNATURAL never gets a nom for SPFX or any other technical awards. Like BUFFY, it will never get acting or best drama nominations, but they produce amazing FX week after week, have amazing art direction, and even great writing. Why is this terrific show always overlooked?

By Muldfeld at 5:31 PM ON 07/16/09

Screw the Emmys. The never have nominated any of the BSG cast, including the brilliant James Callis, and yet the 2 worst actors on the atrocious "Heroes" -- Claire and Hiro -- get nominated for "Best Actor"? The Emmys are as illegitimate as the Grammys.

By Shaun at 7:27 PM ON 07/16/09

"The Emmys are as illegitimate as the Grammys."

you do realize ron moore received a writing nomination a couple years ago?

By Pixel at 7:31 PM ON 07/16/09

While I'm also disappointed that BSG gets nothing, I'm truly delighted that Pushing Daisies has received some well deserved recognition. Just showed the first two episodes to a friend yesterday, and think it's going to be a big hit with him. Wasn't sure how he would take to it, as the dialogue is so fast, and English is his second language(well, one of five!), but I think the pure visual style was a big factor.

By Omen at 8:16 PM ON 07/16/09

You would think that after GA got an Emmy for X-Files years ago that they would have grown up & admited by now that good SciFi is DRAMA!

By Muldfeld at 9:03 PM ON 07/16/09

Shaun, even Radiohead has won Grammy awards for Best Alternative Album. Just because it makes some occasionally right choices doesn't mean it's right half or even most of the time, when it should be right all of the time.

Heroes over BSG is unacceptable.
But I was very excited by Ron Moore's writing nomination, but he deserved to win and didn't. Meanwhile, "Lost"'s lamest finale to date gets nominated?

By Kevin at 11:49 AM ON 07/17/09

Thankfully, no one on Heroes was nominated for anything. But just because bad TV isn't nominated doesn't mean good TV should be ignored.

Buffy never got nominated either.

By Daniel at 12:08 PM ON 07/17/09

Just goes to show that the people who nominate the Emmy's are just as out-of-touch as those that nominate for the Oscars.

By TackyOn at 1:16 PM ON 07/17/09

"Just because it makes some occasionally right choices doesn't mean it's right half or even most of the time, when it should be right all of the time."

Muldfeld....Really, according to whose criterion? Methinks thy sour grapes are showing Muld. This disenchantment of course is yours and the rest of the series fanboy's opinion which now that you have cashed the reality check you are seeing doesn't mean a thing when you aren't part of the judging process. A large fanbase or good ratings on cable doesn't guarantee an emmy in this day and age. Even with a fully impartial staff. All I can say is this is why the ACE awards were a nice idea. Sorry, better luck next time.

By Shaun at 2:44 PM ON 07/17/09

"Buffy never got nominated either."

joss whedon did receive an emmy nomination for writing "hush."

By woodlanham at 5:21 PM ON 07/17/09

I loved BSG with a hopeless love... but sound mixing and sound quality would not have been the first things I thought of when it came to awardworthy aspects. A lot of the dialogue was hard to pick up.

By speakeasy at 1:20 AM ON 07/19/09

I thought that all the BSG nominations are well-deserved. The Sound Mixing/ Quality was awesome!!! I never had any problem with the dialogue except for Baltar and his accent.

By fish at 10:12 PM ON 07/21/09

Correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't the nominations based on submissions. I thought that the emmy's for film and television only gave nominations to those that submit their films. Maybe the reason we don't see some of our favorites getting nominated is because they were never submitted. This is just a guess though.. something I heard...

but uh, on another note... I think Battlestar is probably one of the best shows ever made. And while the acting wasn't always fantastic... I do think Katee Sackhoff (yea.. that's right) should have gotten a nod... so should Bear McCreary for the excellent effing score that he composed.
Baltar's accent did get obnoxious sometimes... but remember.. his character faked the accent... because well.. he was obnoxious, stuffy, and well full of himself. The accent works :)

By usafpercman at 5:16 AM ON 08/05/09

Most if not all of these comments are right on the money. For Bear McCreary not to be nominated is about the biggest crime I've ever seen. As a musician and an avid soundtrack collector, I've NEVER been on a musical journey quite like the one Bear took us on the past 6 years. Then there's the entire cast of BSG. How much of an ALL-STAR cast do you need to get recognition? BSG had some of the best in the business that gave us a chemistry on screen, unmatched by any. From top to bottom, BSG is the best show ever to hit the TV airways. It has revolutionized so many areas and in my opinion, raised the bar. Kudos to ALL who made this show possible. It truly is and always will be, apart of our lives. So say we all.......

By PhotoJoe at 10:44 AM ON 08/05/09

This is a copy of the email I sent to the people at the Emmys,

"People, people, people,

The number of TV channels increases every year, yet the amount of well written and well performed television seems to diminish. Ever wonder why? I'm thinking that it has to do with the lack of responsibility on the parts of the executives making the choice of quantity over quality as well as society rewarding them for it. I want to thank you for playing into the hands of the fools and backing this ideology. Your selection of Emmy nods this year is simple status quo! I will lay odds that less than one percent of you have seen the last episode of Battlestar Galactica. If you had, the line up for the acting Emmys would be very different. Thank you for the 5 technical nods though. I figure that when it comes down to it, popularity rules in hollywood, it's much safer than being an individual. May your rewards show go on as it has in all the years past, 'typical', 'mundane' but most of all 'unmemorable'.

Thank you and good day,

Joe Eldridge
jephotographyllc@yahoo.com"

I hope you all do the same. I'm sure they will apreciate the feedback.

By PhantomGirl at 4:24 PM ON 08/05/09

BSG actors were fantastic, I am amazed they did not receive an actor nod of any kind. But Emmy's has never been on my list of "must sees." I thought BSG was the best drama on television. Haven't found anything worthy to replace it.

By Matt at 4:05 PM ON 09/16/09

Its a crime that Mary McDonnel never got an emmy, especially during season 4.

By DjMikeWatt at 4:55 AM ON 10/03/09

Katee Sackhoff in all 24 episodes of the upcoming season of 24...

Can't effing wait.

What that girl does with her eyes - the way she acts with the smallest facial expressions... amazingly talented and I, for one, am stoked to see her get some major network exposure this year on 24!

By oxjr at 7:35 PM ON 11/01/09

After the Peabody and getting to speak at the UN who needs a fraking Emmy. BSG doesnt even need the publicity to sell dvd's cuz us fans do a way better job of getting people into it.

By Doug A at 6:16 AM ON 01/15/10

One part of me is upset that the show is finally just getting a noms for this award when it was in production for so many years and it almost feels as though it is pity noms for the exact reason above. Another part of me is even shocked that they are even getting noms at all so I am pretty happy with what they did get. And there is a third part of me that thinks the it just does not matter because lets face it the real fans of the show are the only ones who opinions matter anyway. BSG unlike any thing ever done is TV and FILM history and the real fans see exactly that. Every time one of the fans buys the expensive box for the series that is like an award for the series of the highest honor.

By EZ at 10:41 AM ON 01/29/10

"Buffy never got nominated either"
Yep, No F'ing $h1t, puffy the vamp smoker was worse than heroes and lost having a baby and broadcasting it 24/7 on every channel. I thought this conversation was about the bad choices they made?
