Won't be watching if its not the same people. You know just Wednesday night I was talking about cartoons with friends and I was saying that even when I was young, I could tell the difference. I didn't know who Robin Williams was when Aladdin was released but I sure could tell it wasn't him in 'Return of Jafar', even though Dan Castellaneta tried his hardest to copy the voice. Even kids can say "That's not the same person". 'Futurama' is for ADULTS! You think they won't notice. Hell especially Katey Segal.

I'm not watching if they recast. This isn't a Disney sequel.

I'd rather have other actors than have it not come back at all. Even with new voices, it would still be better than drivel like Ghost Hunters or Destination Truth.

Actually, the voice actor's do make a difference. I can recognize the performer's personality and I would miss them if they did not do the roles. As far as I am concerned, 20th Century Fox Television can bite my shiny metal ass.

Futurama without those guys wouldn't be Futurama. And since (based on the movies) Futurama already isn't really Futurama, that means that Futurama would be something I can't even calculate.

The actor who played the original Darrin didn't die (he lived until 1992), he had a back injury that prevented him from continuing. Other cast members died and were replaced though.

I don't believe this for one second. You can't recast those voice actors. Not even Fox is that stupid. It's just a negotiating ploy.

Just as they give hope for more Futurama, Fox shows its complete idiocy by trying the same lame stunt that they tried with recasting Simpsons voices. You'd think they would have learned by now. I just knew that some TV exec would find a way to ruin the comeback... and there we have it. I have no desire to watch Futurama with cheap replacement actors. Fox worked really hard to cancel Futurama the first time, and they are wasting no time to make sure it gets canceled a second time.

See, this is why TV execs have trouble with ratings and viewership - they're all morons. If they don't get the original cast back, then they may as well not bother airing the show, because it will bomb.

Hopefully, this is just a negotiation tactic and they don't actually try to move forward with different voice actors. They will be very dependent on the existing Futurama fanbase to generate decent ratings and it is pretty clear that much of that fanbase will reject such a change.

And I forgot to mention, I also think that the new "SyFy" moniker is about the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

How does fox stay in business, with their terrible business practices. Basically their animated line-up is the only thing that's keeping them afloat, their original programming is just god awful. When the time comes they'll be the first mega station to go under.

Changing these characters' voices would seem to me like dubbing Teal'c from Stargate SG-1 with a chirpy voice or changing the actor altogether. It just wouldn't be the same, no matter how good the new actor was.

They simply cannot replace Billy West. He not only provides the voice of Fry, but the Professor and Zapp Brannigan and a slew of supporting characters as well. Futurama without Billy West is not Futurama.

They tied it with Twikki on Buck Rogers. They tried it with a new 'Star Trek' movie. Both failed miserably.

Let's be clear on some facts which are repeatedly mis-stated over and over in the above comment.

FOX NETWORK - The TV network that cancelled FUTURAMA.

FOX TELEVISION - TV branch of the movie studio that licenses and holds the rights to FUTURAMA.

FOX NETWORK cancelled FUturama, not FOX TELEVISION.

COMEDY CENTRAL being a cable station does not have the production budget of FOX NETWORK, why do you think most of their programming is composed of lame comedians no one has heard of and reruns of Stand-up comics that have already aired on HBO a hundred times?

When you are going to blame someone for making an assanine change, make sure you are blaming the correct party.

FOX TELEVISION is the one who put out the casting sheets in a threat to get the actors to lower their wage requests.

FOX NETWORK has nothing to do with it in this particular instance.

ANd remember, the studio tried to do this early on in the run of THE SIMPSONS and voice actors for that series made it painfully clear who held the upper hand. It will be the same case here. If the original cast doesn't return, FOX will have a serious public relations problem including a very vocal and upset fan base who will not support these episodes in any way shape or form include the extremely lucrative DVD sales.

I remember when they dropped the original actor who did the voice for "Ren" from "Ren and Stimpy", Billy West did the voice of both of them and i could tell it was not the same. It would be the same with "Futurama". I love this show and not having the original actor doing the voices, what would be the point.

The show was brought back because teh FANS bought the dvd box sets and the movies. The FANS need to blast FOX's inbox, telling them changing the cast is not acceptable, and inthe long run the money they save on voice "talent" will turn into a loss of sales profit.

Oh Hell No...if they change the voices I will go out of my way to not only not watch this but avoid Fox stuff altogether...

Futurama sucked anyways. It was weak and it died. Let it go.

While I definitely love the voice cast and intend to support them in this as much as possible, I'm torn.

Why? Well, Matt Groenig was first (and still is) an excellent print cartoonist. His strips don't have nor need a soundtrack to be absolutely hilarious works of ingenuous comedic art.

Also, anyone well-versed in the history of the microphone, the invention that makes the soundtrack possible, has to be aware that there's a significant part of the planet's populace for which sound/voice can never be an issue. And I wouldn't slight them for being able to enjoy the Comedy Central edition of FUTURAMA even if it featured a less than ideal soundtrack with subpar actors.

FUTURAMA is so visually rich that I think I'll be tempted to tune in and experience it as they do with only the closed-captioning.

And I intend to inform Comedy Central that their attempts to market to me while I am on a commercial stroll might otherwise succeed except that I have the sound turned OFF when I watch their edition of FUTURAMA.

this is like making 26 new episodes of The Simpsons, but with changing the voices of Homer, Marge, Bart, Moe, and even Ned! this sucks! you cant seriously expect to resurrect a show by recasting the main roles! i'm sure that FOX has got MORE than enough money to meet the voice actor's demands

Their voices match the ones in my brain that keep me from doing bad things.... I don't know what would happen if those voices don't match.....

While THE SIMPSONS is most definitely visual, FUTURAMA is even more so. So visually rich that I don't think the two are comparable as in your example. But I can understand that others have different priorities and the FUTURAMA soundtrack is excellent and definitely adds to the experience. I would much rather prefer that it not be downgraded.

This is typical of FOX.
This is just one more lousy decision to ruin one of the few (very, very, very few) FOX shows worth watching. If the voices are recast it will be a totally different show. It will be wrong and I will boycott.

I'm sorry but in what region of the galaxy did the new Trek movie fail? It made more money than any of the other Trek films ever released. Another is in the works. Where does this qualify as a failure in anyone's book?

Mindless 'dren'? Despite it's silliness, Futurama was anything but mindless. I loved Farscape too but which program has withstood the test of time? Farscape has been gone for a looooong time, despite fan protests. Futurama has pretty much been on the air since it's cancellation and is still going strong in the ratings. Not so with Farscape. This one actually has a chance. Though I can't really see myself getting into it with all new voices. Billy West has a flexibility in voices that is bar none to other voice actors, in my opinion.

i totaly agree. i love futarama whole heartedly and want nothing more than to have it back, but, replacing the voices? thats rediculus and would kill the exsisting fanbase as well. i stand firmly if they change the voices that ill have lost intrist in watching...
