Green Lantern down to Cooper, Reynolds, Timberlake?

\<i\>Green Lantern\<\/i\> down to Cooper, Reynolds, Timberlake?

Rumors have been appearing on the Web for months about who will put on the ring in the title role of Green Lantern—Chris Pine? Anton Yelchin?—and just as quickly they've been shot down.

Now Variety jumps in belatedly with speculation about whom director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti have spent the past five months searching for.

The actor would play Hal Jordan, the Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns. Here's how Variety reports it:

This week, the race narrowed to Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. The clock is ticking on the decision as the holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning the three are now free to accept other offers.

The studio ordered up two rounds of screen tests with Cooper, Reynolds and Timberlake. Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.

Apparently, De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

The trade paper goes on to report that the budget is quickly escalating, to between $150 million to $200 million or more.

The movie is eyeing a December 2010 release.

Timberlake!!!! DOnt care now wont watch who ever gets the part you've already wound me up

By ursid at 5:34 AM ON 07/10/09

I like Timberlake, but he is is no Hal Jordan (maybe a Guy Gardner, though). James Marsden at least looks the part, and Nathan Fillian could be the very model for Hal Jordan; why are they not mentioned here?

Not interested in Cooper or Reynolds. Can we not have someone who is clearly an ADULT instead of a kid? In the comics, Hal Jordan was NOT an air force pilot, he was perhaps a former AF pilot, but a seasoned, private-sector test pilot at the time he became GL. That is to say, an ADULT> This puts him anywhere in the range of 28-38. (Go look at the career of archetypical test pilot Chuck Yeager.)

ursid, Cooper IS aged between 28-38 he's 34.........
i dont think any of them should get the part

I absolutely will not go see it if Justin Timberlake is playing the Green Lantern. He can't even voice act for cartoons. How's he going to be the Green Lantern?

By zosolias at 7:24 AM ON 07/10/09

Justin Timberlake?????

NOOOOOO.

Tell me no one is seriously considering this!!!!!

What a disaster that would be!

By Stratos at 7:40 AM ON 07/10/09

Since when is Timberlake an A-Lister for anything - especially movies?! This is worst casting than Hayden Christenson as Anakin Skywalker and that was AWFUL!!!

By GotsDaSyfyDownLow at 8:35 AM ON 07/10/09

Timberlake is awful! He'd be last on my list of anything.

By FantasyFan at 8:49 AM ON 07/10/09

I watched the fan made trailer of the green lantern and agree Natha Fillion is exellent choice to play Hal Jordan AKA green Lantern , dont get me wron I like Reynolds and cooper is kinda of good , but dont see them playing hal jordan timberlake noooooooooooo way jose

If you want to see Justin Timberlake's lack of acting ability, go watch his William Rast clothing line commercials. Anyone who would cast him as the lead in a big budget film is thinking more of appealing to women with a crush on him than creating a quality film.

By Reddist at 8:54 AM ON 07/10/09

Isn't Reynolds doing Deadpool? Two superhero franchises by the same actor will dilute them both. I'd rather see Reynolds as Deadpool than Hal Jordan.

People I got a question how in god name the spamers get throuh the catch phrase everytime I tried to post a comment is a mini odissey

By 13th Cylon at 9:16 AM ON 07/10/09

If they give the part to Justin Timberlake you can rest assured that I will not go see it in the theaters, rent it, buy the DVD, watch it on HBO, or on Cable. You have got to be frack'n kidding me! JUSTIN FRACK'N TIMBERLAKE!? Lets get Britney Spears to play the love interest.

By Paul at 10:04 AM ON 07/10/09

I agree that casting Justin Timberlake would be a huge mistake. It boggles my mind that the people who are seriously considering him have $150+ million dollars to use for this project. Somebody is freaking nuts.

By Wallabyguy at 10:08 AM ON 07/10/09

I agree with the previous post that the only reason for the studio to even consider Timberlake has got to be to appeal to women. It would be a terrible choice.

I actually like Reynolds out of the three.

By Gaijin at 10:26 AM ON 07/10/09

Not sure if anybody at the studio reads these things, but please listen to the fans on this one:

For God's sake, please DO NOT CAST JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AS HAL JORDAN/GREEN LANTERN!

He has neither the character acting chops or the looks to fill this character.

Best suggestion for this role will be, and has always been in my opinion, Nathan Fillion. He's go the looks, acting chops, and character to play this role perfectly!

By 3 at 11:05 AM ON 07/10/09

Hrmm. I have to admit that I'm rather unfamiliar with the character, so I can't agree or disagree with the sentiment that Justin Timberlake would be a horrible choice to play it. That said, I for one wouldn't rule him out as an actor in general. The two movies I've seen him in (Alpha Dog & Southland Tales), while not flawless overall, featured quite solid performances from him.

By Wald at 11:15 AM ON 07/10/09

Nathan Fillion was awesome in the fan made trailer and should be considered a shoe in for the part. Maybe the community should spam the production company with requests for Nathan Fillion.

By Old Guard at 12:37 PM ON 07/10/09

Okay, I'm going to be honest, often when I read people's reaction to movies and television shows, I am reminded of that old Shatner line: Get a life.
People put way too much emphasis on nitpicking, 'I don't like this, this sucks, this is stupid'... Blah, blah and blah, blah. It's still just movies and television. For instance when I saw the latest Terminator flick, I'm glad I didn't listen to people who said, it was so terrible. I took the film for what it was, a TERMINATOR movie!...I still like watching Heroes, because I watch it within the context of what it is, a television show about people with super powers, running around, getting into trouble.
I'm currently in mourning about Primeval going off the air. Pushing Daises gone, Reaper, history and yet, Gossip Girl is still on. But hey, that's how it goes.
Now having said all that, there are times when an idea comes along that is so dumb, so wrong, you do have to put your foot down and say no. The casting of Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE as Hal Jordan is simply irresponsible behavior. This is nothing against these three men. But come on - seriously? I want to see this movie. I am excited about this movie. However, just a movie or not, I don't know if I can suspend my disbelief enough if the lead is cast this wrong. I simply don't think I can do it. Honestly, I feel Nathan Fillion at this point is a pipe dream. I don't see it happening. It is too sensible a choice. However, if Martin Campbell and crew are looking for a 'hot property' they have no further to look, than Transformers, Josh Duhamel. He's the guy, he's Green Lantern. He's the right age, he has the right look, he's in the biggest movie of the summer. Go figure.
Again, I want to see this movie. But I want to see this movie done RIGHT, starting with the lead. None of those guys fit the part, plain and simple. I don't know if I can pay and sit through a mistake like that. Especially when all of us who are familiar with the character, know how cool a potential Green Lantern film could really be. This is one time the film makers should give the people what they want and rise to our expectations.

By crichton007 at 1:55 PM ON 07/10/09

No to Cooper, maybe to Timberlake but yes to Reynolds. Cooper would be a mistake on the same scale as Clooney playing Batman.

By Mr. Fusion at 1:57 PM ON 07/10/09

Enough said, in case WB doesn't get it here's a pic that is worth a thousand words:

If they choose Timberlake, I'll regretfully NEVER watch this movie despite being an enormous GL fan.

By kooldeath at 4:24 PM ON 07/10/09

Well Reynolds can't do the GL movie . He's already signed up for the Deadpool movie from Marvel. How is it gonna look if he's playing 2 hero characters by 2 different companies ??

By JRH at 4:34 PM ON 07/10/09

If Timberlake is picked for GL.....Well then DC's attempt to catch Marvel will FLOP!!! I for one have been waiting for the GL movie and I will never watch it if Timberlake is picked to play Hal Jorden.

By me at 5:18 PM ON 07/10/09

My vote would go to Reynolds. I think he fits the bill more than the other two. I like Nathan Fillion, but he is too old for the part.

By Demon-S at 8:23 PM ON 07/10/09

Josh Duhamel could probably pull it off as the Green Lantern. Nathan Fillion could do it too.

By Hjordan4lfe at 11:59 PM ON 07/10/09

Boo timberlake .. booo

I was hoping that it would be a great movie .. but that all falls down to the casting ..

But i am glad to see that they went with Hal Jordan and not Guy Gardner or John ( who seems to get all the air time due to some reason or another ( skin tone maybe) .. but then again Kyle Rayner would have been a good choice too .. the whole Zero Hour Saga would be a great trilogy in my opinion
