Fans of CBS' short-lived post-apocalyptic series Jericho raised enough hell to get an extra seven episodes that just barely counted as a second season, but all the peanuts in the world couldn't raise the ratings enough to warrant another 13, let alone a third season.
But fans may still get one last visit to the Kansas town, as producers insist they are developing a final two-hour movie.
Lennie James, who played techno spy Robert Hawkins, was part of a Comic-Con panel last weekend when he heard the news. "While we were there, Karim [Zreik], one of the producers, said that the idea of a movie is still on the cards," James said in a group interview on Tuesday in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting The Prisoner to the Television Critics Association. "They're just trying to come up with the two-hour story that's worth telling. So that's where they are at the moment. But it's still on the cards, and people are still interested."
In the meantime, the story does continue in comic-book form, which may have to be enough for a while. "I try very hard not to have any expectations, even after people have told me that this is going to happen," James said. "I try not to have any expectations, but I was at Comic-Con the other day, and we did a panel because Jericho is being released as a comic book. That's one way that they're going to continue the story."
Should the telefilm come together, London native James said that he would be excited to play Hawkins again. "Listen, I loved doing Jericho," he said. "I had a lot of fun on Jericho. I've made friends for life on Jericho. It was my introduction to, not just American television, but to America. Jericho did me nothing but favors, so if they come up with a story that's strong and that justifies doing it, and they get it done in the way that I would hope it should be done, then, yeah, I'll be the first name on the list. If not, the second."

Jericho was one of my favorite series & I really hope they will manage to make this TV movie.

I hated to see the show get canceled, i like to see it at least get a good ending to it. Even the 7 shows that they considered to be the 2nd season gave it somewhat of a ending but not a true ending since they left it open for possible 3rd season that wasnt picked up.

I absolutely LOVED the first season, but the second season removed everything about the show that made it worth watching, leaving just the dry action elements. Not that I don't like action, but action without caring about the characters is pointless. If they do a movie, I hope it will resemble the first season more than the first.

Always exciting news to hear how the movie is going. Sites like SaveJerichoAgain.com have heard about the movie being "in the works." This was a show of such quality. Between the writer's strike and the time changes/dates of airing, it didn't have a chance. Fans of Jericho are hungry for more story, whether that comes in Comic form, book form, a third season (hey stranger things have happened) miniseries, movie, or any combination of the above.

I always liked the show, never loved it though. I always felt like a lot of the actors/characters were miscast and a few of them underwritten.
It'd have been a much better show on Scifi, or maybe FX, with a better cast and better writers.
With that being said though, I still watched every episode, and wouldn't mind watching the movie.
I just wish another network(ABC) or cable channel (Scifi) would try their hand at a post apocalyptic show.

What a shame that this show got cancelled.
Great cast, great characters, compelling story.
I loved watching how the world was evolving in the wake of lawlessness and anarchy. I loved seeing the disparate views and perceptions on what constituted 'laws' from community to community. It was cool to see how justice was arbitrated differently in the various towns and cities based on the things they'd been through and the battles they'd fought.
And the whole 'bartertown' thing was not only a great concept but very realistic.
It was interesting to see that the world was becoming like the old west all over again now that people had to fend for themselves and couldn't look for handouts from everyone.
I really miss this show. Too bad CBS felt the need to cancel this wonderful, imaginative show in favor of yet more police dramas that we didn't need.

That's great news! Although the final episode was good, there were still things that needed to be wrapped up. I would definitely enjoy seeing it played out!

Season 1 was amazing, breath of fresh air, season 2 yuk. Let sleeping dogs lie.
By Seanbtwo at 3:29 PM ON 07/30/09
I think that this show definitely lends itself to a full length movie format. I loved the show (both seasons) and I hope that the network has enough sense for once to go forward on this!

One can thank the success of Firefly and Farscape for starting the trend on finishing the story lines for the series that get [wrongly and prematurely] cancelled. Their hits with the shows and DVD's has also influenced the SG-1 conclusion to DVD wrap-ups one has to beleive. Now,can someone suggest this for the Terminator:SCC people for all of their disgusted fans? :D - KH

Season 2 wasn't as good as Season 1 because it was so rushed. The writers knew they had 7 episodes to write an entire season's worth of storylines. You just had to accept that...can't blame the writers or producers for that one, have to put that one on the network.
By MCP-001 at 4:35 PM ON 07/30/09
I'd love to see a movie done because while the series "wrapped" things up, you're still wondering; what happens next?
If I were a survivor somewhere in the US, I'd be a little p.o.'d to find out that most cities were destroyed as part of a false flag operation.
A Second Civil War is a relativly new concept, and GASP, hasn't been done to death yet.
{Insert sounds of the footsteps of SyFy upper management as they scramble to find writers after hearing this little nugget...}

...exactly, everything was condensed for the 2nd season. it was like a 300 page novel getting shrunk to 50 pages. The little things were barely there or removed while the main ideas were pushed as hard they could.
Still, I'd like to see the Allies of RoT and ESA beat the fascist ASA to the ground.

Great panel at Comic Con and the fans asked interesting questions. Love the comment about bringing back Bonnie as a ghost.
By Bobanort at 6:14 PM ON 07/30/09
While I didn't care for a few aspects of the show for technical reasons, I did find the show to be quite addictive. I'd definitely make time to watch a wrap-up movie to see the outcome after the last episode left us hanging.

Jericho was one of our favorite series as well,we would love to see a Jericho Movie and if so the original cast and crew will be the ones to make it happen!.
We the fans would still like to see Season 3

I would love to see a Jericho movie. I have always enjoyed the series not to mention that I knew the executive producer Carol Barbee because she went to high school with me.
By TheBigCW at 6:09 AM ON 07/31/09
Actually, it;s a THEATRICAL movie that is being developed - not a TV Movie.

This is great news. Just goes to show that somewhere, someone realized they missed the mark and that there is still a market for this franchise. Even if this is the last story of that saga, I'm glad to see someone respects the product enough to give it the closure we so desperately want and did not get with the truncated season 2. I can't way to see Lennie James back in action as Hawkins again.

@kryche
You need to check out Jeremiah, a series ShowTime did a few years ago starring Luke Perry, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and Sean Austin. SyFy shows it once in a while, definitely the show that Jericho tried to be - you can even see the name similarity.

I would watch Jericho any day! I was disappointed that they chose to do a comic. Jericho is not a comedy. It needs real live actions.
I have hoped that an major network would pick up Jericho, make it into the intelligent series, and put it on a network that will tell us when it will be on...adverise it! CBS did a really poor job of supporting the show. Put it on Sci Fi! And let us know when it is on!!
By Drummer at 2:42 PM ON 07/31/09
Barb7472: They're doing a comic book, not a comedy. There are a lot of comic books that are very dark and serious, not funny at all.

This would so rock. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEEEEEASE HAPPEN.

Would be nice if we could get a satisfactory ending to a great program!

When I was first introduced to this show, it was the episode with the Tank rolling into town, I was watching it at work when my boss had it pulled up on the computer. Instantly I started asking questions, and then I found out I could catch up by watching all of them on CBS.com, which I did, in fact I remember staying up to like 3 in the morning, with the slow downloads, trying to catch up. Every episode had you wanting more and more.
I love the show, and everytime I see one of the actors playing in a movie or commerical, I actually watch or keep watching the movie they are in.
I know the series is a lost cause, but to let the Jericho community have more fuel to add to the fire with the comic books, and Hopefully a movie, is a blessing and we will definatley take what we can get, and only hope for more.
By Viclee at 7:30 PM ON 09/15/09
Sad that the series will not continue and hope the movie will help bring peace again to the Jericho community.

WHERE CAN I BUY MY TICKETS! AND TO THOSE EXPERTS WHO WONDERED WHY THE RATINGS WERE SO LOW (SECOND SEASON) 10PM IS TO LATE A TIME SLOT.
By lavafire at 5:49 PM ON 10/13/09
Just started watching the show on netflix and instantly fell in love with this show i have 3 episodes left and i wish I could see more. I hope there is a movie to finish things off. But i hope it isn't cheesy like the dead like me movie cause i would rather they leave it alone if they are going to do that.
By leeuniverse at 6:24 PM ON 10/23/09
Why do they say in that article that the "ratings" were low??? I don't know off hand how good the ratings where, but I know that it went down some when they dumbly killed off one of the main characters just when the series had started. And I think they wrongly changed the time slot (though can't remember on this one) However, it was still a popular show.
I mean why do these dang company's have to cancel every good show simply because of some mistake, which they could still recover from??? Especially if they are still popular.
By Trillium at 3:36 PM ON 11/04/09
I don't think one movie could tell the whole story. I would love to see a trilogy or more of movies instead of just one Jericho movie. I agree that the actors made the show stand out more than the writing at times but some times the acting wasn't that great either. It is clear they had a great concept that was plagued with so many issues and it never got the support it deserved on so many levels. When they remade War of the Worlds I was expecting more explaination and better insight to it but it was so disappointing. They really didn't have the time to develop the characters and plot. It was a vehicle to shock and awe and it was not worthy of the story. I don't know how they could do Jericho justice in an hour and a half or two hours. Not plausible. I could see part I where it works its way up to the bombs going off. Then a part II dealing with survival and reincarnating the nation here and there. Then part three when the civil wars or whatever are fought, lost and won over different parts of the nation. International implications and interventions. Then a part four where the final battles are fought and the nation reimurges with a whole new approach from what it is today. The way government is set up to the way the laws are set up and inforced. They got rid of the nostalgia and put together a new way of governance based on what works today and for the future. The accepted norms of today and more open of what they will be in the future. More self reliance and restoring manufacturing in the U.S. for security reasons. Since lands are destroyed by nuclear fall out a total new appreciation for green approaches and maybe fallout causes new ice age in parts of the nation and world. I guess the real question would be could we unite and get it done right when the chips are really down. Could greed and envy and a whole host of typical man made issues be side tracked to achieve a future for all? I would leave it undecided but show how it might work.

I remember watching the show and then it vanished for a couple of months....rediscovered reruns last month and netflixed my way through all of the episodes...and about to do it again. AND bought two comic books....which I would have never thought I would have done. I wish they could come back with the series...a movie is great, but I want them BACK...for at least two or three seasons. :)
