Of all the games they choose to make a movie from they pick a 2 D black and white game with absolutely no plot. Talk about playing it safe.

Personally I would have liked to see a movie of Joust or perhaps Unreal Tournament ---Now that would have been gooood.

A FOUR-studio bidding war??? Over a thirty year old video game?! Wow, Hollywood really has lost its collective mind. I can hear the bad reviews already: "Univeral puts the 'ass' in Asteroids..."

As for Kick-Ass, I wonder how much violence from the comic they're going to keep in the movie.

By RatzMilk at 1:29 AM ON 07/03/09

This is a joke isn't it?

By Pagrin at 1:55 AM ON 07/03/09

At first I wondered, slake jawed at the idea of someone having to write a 90 minute story about a game with no plot, and no story line.
Then I realized this is hollowood (misspelled for a reason), and I relaxed into that comfortable knowledge that you don;t need either of those things if you fill it with enough fast moving CGI Just look at the latest Star Trek.

the studiobosses will play asteroids?

to be honest they must have seen the budget en liked the "$ 0.02" for special effects

By Acceler8 at 11:35 AM ON 07/03/09

Hey, they made a movie out of the board game Clue, so go figure.

By suprememango at 5:35 PM ON 07/03/09

a movie based on Asteriods? lol lollll rofl. What's next? Pong - Revenge of the Paddles? I love it.

Four Studios bidding over a script that has yet to be written based on a black and white video game from 1979? Goes to show you how stupid Hollywood is!

Kudos on the longest sentence I have ever seen.

By Dummer at 6:09 AM ON 07/04/09

Can't you just see it coming...

PONG! the movie

By Captain Jack Harkness at 5:41 PM ON 07/04/09

Unless Asteroids features Han and Chewie flying the Millenium Falcon thru them while shooting Tie Fighters, count me out.

By Eldon at 6:35 PM ON 07/04/09

Yeah, but Clue is classic! And Tim Curry is hilarious! And how many hours did you waste playing Asteroid. The movie can't be much worse than that.

Or will it?

By parrothead0333 at 11:53 PM ON 07/04/09

I don't know how you write a script about a video game that has no conceivable story of any kind to use. This has to be a joke. I mean if you want to make a movie out of some old atari game try Pitfall or Adventure. At least there is something to work with.

By Bobanort at 9:22 AM ON 07/05/09

I got the storyline figured out. Children, deprived of real entertainment by the entertainment industry, must give all their quarters to the marauding monochromatic aliens who live in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, or face the imminent destruction of all life on earth. It will feature Kaytee Sackhoff and Freddy Prinze, Jr.

By jga at 3:55 PM ON 07/05/09

sounds like a "last starfighter" remake

By Tyryt at 1:37 PM ON 07/06/09

Hey Hollywood? You're doing it wrong.

By BlahBlah40 at 2:38 PM ON 07/06/09

Let's see, this will be the plot: young hero in say early 20s, blasts some rocks, a lot of CGI, no plot and gets girl in the middle of the story.

By rummie456 at 3:06 PM ON 08/03/09

"Defying Gravity" with Ron Livingston is one of the dumbest, least believable television programs I've ever seen - what a waste of time! I might as well be watching "Lost" which is another dumb program.
