News Briefs: Cronenberg\'s \<i\>Cosmopolis\<\/i\>, Henson Co. Emmy

David Cronenberg, the director who has rewritten the DNA of the SF/horror film with classics like The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome and The Fly and who has gone on to rewrite the DNA of the crime thriller with movies like A History of Violence and Eastern Promises, will next make an adaptation of Cosmopolis, author Don DeLillo's 2003 novel about crumbling realities centered around a 28-year-old billionaire crossing Manhattan in a tricked out limo for a haircut, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Filming begins in 2010 in New York and Toronto.

On August 22, 2009 the Jim Henson Co. will be awarded a special Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for its Digital Puppetry Studio animation system, Variety reports. The system, according to the Henson web site "allows a single performer to puppeteer and voice a live 3-dimensional computer graphic image" and has been used for productions ranging from Sid the Science Kid to Farscape to the adaptation of the Stephen King short story "Battleground" for TNT's Nightmares and Dreamscapes.
