SDCC: Oldman confirms new \<i\>Batman\<\/i\> shoots in \'10
Gary Oldman in The Book of Eli

During the Comic-Con panel today for Warner Brothers' The Book of Eli, Gary Oldman told attendees that shooting for the third Batman film is imminent.

"Batman will start shooting next year," he said when a fan asked how soon we would get to see another film from Christopher Nolan. "So it's two years away [from release]. But you didn't hear that from me."

Oldman declined to provide additional details, but this qualifies as one of the first public confirmations that the third Batman is going forward.

Interesting. But what is more interesting is the map behind Oldman in the pic above. Notice that the USSR is still together.

Yes!

Maybe it's just an old map. Doesn't necessarily have to be an up to date one, does it? Either that, or things just came out differently in that reality.

THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS!

Must be rather old map. I just noticed that Manchuria appears on it, and there are no countries in the Middle East. That would peg it between 1917 and 1922 or there abouts.

GoblinRevolution, you have both good eyes and a keen deciphering of geography, of which I have none.

I just hope in this one there is a scene where
Batman casts his shadow on th wall.
Seeing the bat shadow that strikes terror into the crooks is so much fun.

I want to see the Mad Hatter as the next main villian. Perhaps he can ruin all Batman's plans to keep Gotham safe from corruption by proving his innocents with the Two-Face killings. I want to see Mad Hatter attempting to harm Batman, but unwillingly doing him a favor in the process.

They could go ahead and bring Catwoman back (using a nice young attractive actress, tired of them using aged ugly losers who can't act) as Batman and Bruce's love interest.

I really don't want to see the Riddler nor the Penguin return. Those characters have already been done, Christopher Nolan won't keep doing Batman forever, and I'd like to see his take on some never -before-on-screen characters. I don't want to to wait 10 years for someone new to take over Batman just to see new villians.

Bring Scarecrow back, but in a bigger part. I think it's cool than he's became a reoccurring villian at the moment.

Don't introduce the Batplane, Batboat or any of that crap lets keep it simple and focus on what drives the movie it's potiential, the Batcycle is enough.

The thing that drove Mad box office records with The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker.

I want to see a movie top Titanic it's been number 1 for far too long and Batman 3 has the potiential. So give us the perfect Villian and the perfect actor to play him and throw us another success TDK had.

I hope they're not stupid enough to expect the next one to make the same kind of money that The Dark Knight made. If ever a film benefitted from the untimely death of a major actor, it was that one.

By Joe ASAP at 7:26 AM ON 07/25/09

I thought that the Dark Knight overall was a pretty decent movie, it was really the best ive seen of any movie for the first 3/4, but the last part seemed like a let down only because I was expecting a really big finish & I didn't get that. What i mean is that the first part was just so good, but in the end it dwindled. the boats didn't explode & the joker didn't die. after rachel died I was expecting some supercrazy-revenge & then........bleh! the joker hangs upside-down on a wire. seriously - what is that? I'm a guy, I want the joker to die in a super big explosion - not hang upsidedown. I'm assuming that this critique is just me though?

By oddball at 1:11 PM ON 07/25/09

Joe ASAP I agree with you. they should have killed off the Joker and every villian for that matter. The Dark Knight was the Joker's movie there's absolutely no reason to bring him back in later films. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing. But you know what they would say if they saw this message.... "We can't please everybody."

Nope most likely Joker will be locked up in an asylum never to be heard from again. That or setting up for the Harley Quinn (not sure the spelling) to make an appearance which would suck cause that character is the most boringest ever.... I mean honestly what's so facinating about some clueless broad who's only causing mayhem cause she's in love with a psychopath.

They should have let Two-Face live and kill the Joker. Two-Face had potiential to be an awesome villian, but having only about 20 minutes of screen time and killed off a few corrupt cops doesn't make him much of anything.

Johnny Depp rumored to reprise the role of Joker.

Instead of exclaiming "Are you guys nuts?!?!", I shall simply say that I, personally, thought that they couldn't have ended TDK better than they did. I get that you two were wanting an explosive climax, but I am thrilled they went with an emotional climax instead. I do wish they could've had two-face survive, but then they wouldn't have had the awesome ending of Batman taking the blame to keep hope alive in the city. Whereas the first movie had a theme of fear, this movie beautifully captured the nobility that humans can hold within. TDK did not have a hollywood ending, it ended like a comic. That's what makes it unique.

By oddball at 3:57 AM ON 07/26/09

On the contrary David N. I thought that there was an engaging climax to TDK. when Batman is racing through the streets to evade police, when Gordon says The Dark Knight. The music alone was keeping this scene intense.

I however would just liked some closure on the Joker's end. He is now a character that will never have a true end because the last we'll ever see of him is hanging upside down.

Batman 3 has now so much potiential I just hope Nolan doesn't screw it up by growing so much confidence in himself thinking he can't possible messed the next one up in any way.

I did hear they are thinking of adding unknown villians to the mix, which would be a bad idea. I think the Riddler and Penguin would be cool if done right, I just want to see unused villians before Batman is thrown back into the dark to await a new Director in another time. Scarecrow was cool he was one I waited for before Begins was even thought of, but now I want to see Mad Hatter. He's not as far-fetched as the idea of sonar glasses attached to a batsuit letting you see in crystal clear 3-D through walls and rotational vision. I mean he could be modified to be more realistic. For example instead of using a mind controlling device, say he's some guy running tests with guinea pigs who has an accident and falls hits his head wakes up with amnesia and now thinks he's the Mad Hatter. He could start off by being a mere nuissance to Batman (like Scarecrow) and grow to become a larger more violent threat. Gene Wilder could even play him... haha just a joke, would be the pefect cast if he wasn't too old for the part.

But seriously lets let Mad Hatter make an appearance in the next movie.

Sorry for lumping you and Joe ASAP together, it was just easier to respond to.

By Joe ASAP at 11:55 PM ON 07/27/09

wow, I really like the idea of 2face killing the joker. That would have been really good stuff because then they could've delved more into his psyche in the next movie.

keep the villians to a minimum to maximize their effect
