When last we spoke with Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi, he was just about to read the latest draft of the script, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire.
Well, guess he didn't like it that much: News has broken that Seabiscuit writer/director Gary Ross has been brought on board to do a rewrite, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad. ...The move also puts Ross back to work with Maguire, with whom he worked on his directorial vehicles Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. The two were also working on Tokyo Suckerpunch, a drama set up at Columbia; that project is now on hold as Ross tackles another writing project, Columbia's Lance Armstrong biopic.
James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) also reportedly worked on the script.
We hope this doesn't bode ill for the sequel: Too many cooks was one of the reported reasons Spider-Man 3's story was so convoluted and why the movie was less successful creatively than the previous two installments.
Spider-Man 4 is slated for release in May 2011.

God I hope it's better than the hot steaming pile of crap that Spiderman 3 was.

Spider-Man 3 was still 100x better than 'Star Trek'. Just goes to show you even a pair of duds can still make bookoo bucks.

Rob...Former LSU Jead Caoch Nick SAban said it best..."It's TIME...to move ON!"
The fact that you do not want it to be good does not change that fact that it is. The fact that you do not want it to be a hit does not change the fact that it is. You can't have everyting in life that you want. Move on with you life now. You'll be happier

The too many cooks thing was a problem for Spider-Man 2 as well early on, but eventually they made it into a great script that worked.
The problem Spidey 3 had was that no matter how many times they tried to rewrite it, they were never going to make all of the "necessary" plot points work. It wasn't how many people were writing it, it was how much they wanted to jam into a single movie.

Sorry, goober, but the fact that 'Star Trek' was a bad movie is what made it not a good movie. Accept that fact as everyone else has.

The problem with Spidey 3 was the use of Venom - it felt shoe-horned into the movie and the character was awful. It was almost as if they felt they had to put Venom into it, without any reason other than the fact he was a popular character with the fanboys, and they didn't really think it through. Also, I felt that MJ was badly handled in the third movie. I didn't feel like a good continuation of the previous character arcs. Hopefully Spidey 4 will get things back on track.
