Before J.J. Abrams' Star Trek stormed the box office, the official Web site was chock-full of teaser features, including a virtual tour of parts of the new Enterprise.
Now comes news that Paramount Home Entertainment's Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray release will feature packaging that opens up an interactive tour of the famed starship. Variety reported:
Expected to be one of the biggest home entertainment releases of the fourth quarter after its $375 million theatrical run, J.J. Abrams' re-imagined Star Trek will make its debut Nov. 17 with all the expected extras on the two-disc DVD and three-disc Blu-ray release. With the packaging feature dubbed "augmented reality," consumers will be able to hold their disc packaging in front of any standard webcam to unlock an interactive hologram on the computer screen, through which they can tour five cabins on the Enterprise, even shooting enemies from the ship's deck.
Users will have to log in to a Web site to access the feature, but they control the hologram by holding the disc packaging.
You can get an idea how this works from an early version of the feature, which Paramount tried for the international theatrical release of the film, at Experience the Enterprise.com.
The discs will also feature deleted scenes, such as one with baby Spock and a sequence on the Klingon penal colony of Rura Penthe, with a look at Abrams' version of Klingons.

So the deleted scenes won't make their way into the movie "yet"? Then I will wait for Star Trek 12 and hope for a blu-ray release where they put the missing scenes into the film by then.
Judging from their sale strategy so far (Comic prequel / Additional comics that will contain missing scenes) I'm sure the blu I want will come out eventually.

Agreed, I'll also wait till the they release an edition with the deleted scenes re-integrated into the movie.

That may be a long wait with Paramount's track record on deleted scenes. The only Star Trek release to have deleted scenes integrated to the film is Star Trek the Motion Picture. Nemesis which is universally panned (though I like it) would have been a much better film with some of the cut scenes add to the film. Troi's mental assault in the turbo lift and the seat belt joke at the end for example.

Akuma63, perhaps you should go back to your DVDs. The Wrath of Khan release contains quite a few minutes of reintegrated deleted scenes.

So does Star Trek 6

Star Trek V had 107 mins of deleted scenes inserted. Oh, wait, that's "should have been deleted."

Can they delete the damn brewery from the movie?
By Zaphod at 11:56 AM ON 07/17/09
I take exception with Michael's comment about Star Trek V. The only problem with the movie was the directing... and the plot... and the script... and the acting... and the effects....
Other than those few things, it was perfect. :)

3 disc Blu-Ray??? I was under the impression that BD had a massive capacity and we would see the end of multi disc editions.

I guess the question becomes....
how much crap is too much crap on a blu-ray DVD?
or else
Man I love this stuff...
1. How they picked the color scheme for ST
2. Is there Sound in space?
3. Stick figure animation of ST
4. Here's the Actor's spread of food while they in between takes.
lol you get the idea.

They just want to milk this flop for another few cents. They'll never break even.
