Will Rob Marshall skipper the next Pirates movie?
Will Rob Marshall step in for Gore Verbinski directing the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie? That's the report on Variety, which adds that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow and that production is on track for a 2010 production start:
There hasn't been a director at the helm of the pirate ship since April, when Gore Verbinski stepped out to focus on a movie version of the vidgame Bioshock for Universal. ... Though that film's lost some momentum, Verbinski has moved on to other directing and producing projects. ...Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have been meeting with a number of directors in recent weeks, because the studio wants to pull the Pirates film together and have Depp star in it before he does The Lone Ranger for the producer and the studio. While Marshall's involvement wasn't immediately confirmed, sources said things look good enough that the studio has begun casting new characters that will appear in the picture.
Marshall made his feature directing debut with the Oscar-winning musical Chicago and most recently completed the musical Nine.

You're thinking of the wrong movie. There's the movie 9 , the one with Elijah Wood, and then there's the movie Nine which is a musical about Guido Contini.

I like Depp but as the "Masked Rider of the Plain"...no way no how. How many times does Hollywood have to screw up the story before they either leave it alone or get it right.
Disney seems bent on wrecking every iconic pulp character Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger and Taylor Kitsch as John Carter Warlord of Mars. I guess anybody with hair on his chest was busy

Johnny Depp is playing TONTO in The Lone Ranger. And NINE was a ony award winning musical on Broadway; before that it was an autobiographical film by Federico Fellini called 8 1/2.

Uhhh... Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger? Who's going to be Tonto, Ricky Gervais? Oh, I know. Dave Chappelle, right?
Really, I like Johnny in a (fittingly) quirky kind of way, but unless their goal is to ape or mock the property (a la Dan Aykroyd's "Dragnet" tragedy or Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson in "Starsky and Hutch"), this casting idea doesn't make sense.
Hey, for that matter, Stiller and Wilson might work in Lone Ranger! Meh...

Funny how this topic became more about Depp and Nine the about Rob Marshall.
But who cares? Gore Verbinski made the Pirates movies. This will me a mistake of elephantine proportions ala the first Batman movies going from Tim Burton to Joel Schumacher (Gag)

Did everyone miss what dpla said Depp isn’t the Lone Ranger HE IS TONTO! Say it with me now. TONTO!
Now on the topic of the 4th Pirates movie, I love the first three but I’m not sure how I feel about this fourth installment. What is it going to be about. When we last left Captin Jack Sparrow he was with out a real ship, with out a crew, and a map to the fountain of youth. I think that it is going to be a stretch to get a movie worth the viewing.
