Further establishing a trend for 3-D genre pictures of a kind not seen since the 1950s, Weinstein Co. co-chairman Bob Weinstein has announced that the next movie in the rebooted Halloween franchise will be Halloween 3D, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Rob Zombie, the director of the recent Halloween and this past weekend's strong opener Halloween II, is currently developing a second remake of The Blob and will not be attached.
This next Halloween would be part of a growing number of upcoming major studio releases in 3-D, joining titles like James Cameron's Avatar, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Robert Zemeckis' animated A Christmas Carol and Pixar's Toy Story 3D.
No director for the upcoming sequel has been selected yet.

A second Halloween sequel? Can they just let this series rest? It already has the most complete ending possible.

Man, it said in the trailers that Halloween II was going to be the last one. Let it DIE already! Honestly it should have ended with the first remake, with the alternate ending where Michael actually redeems himself by letting Laurie go.

I've never been a fan of this genre, anyway. However, I was convinced to see Halloween II this past weekend, and it was just plain awful. There was no suspense. The deaths were all completely predictable, no empathy for any of them. Were they trying to say that Michael was another aspect of the heroine's personality, and she committed all the bad taste slashings herself, seeing as she comes out at the end in the mask? There was no clarity in that, although a plot twist like that would have been the only saving grace of the whole fiasco. Bad writing, bad acting, horrible music, and with not even any humor to have any saving grace.

S.W., it never said in the trailers that this was the last - it only said that Rob Zombie "completes his vision". Makes complete sense that Zombie would skip out - I completely agree, though, let this series rest!

The first remake by Rob Zombie of Halloween was absolute genius. I came out of the theater in awe of how good he captured Michael Myers state of mind and how it evolved. The sequel was OK, but nothing compared to the first remake. The biggest issue I had with the sequel was that he did not use the traditional music in the movie till the credits at the end. I found myself jonesing to hear it in every scene that Michael was about to strike another victim. It drove me nuts not hear it.
