More trouble Down Under for Green Lantern

More trouble Down Under for \<i\>Green Lantern\<\/i\>

More details about that reportedly troubled Australian shoot for the proposed Green Lantern movie: The Aussie Inside Film magazine says that the production is now talking with government officials about getting more concessions.

The problem: The rising Australian dollar has blown out production costs, the magazine reports:

Warner Bros. is understood to be negotiating with the [New South Wales] State Government to receive a higher level of concessions in an effort to claw back between $US15 and $US25 million in value eroded by the currency gains.

The value of the Australian dollar has climbed by more than 16 per cent since the State Labor government announced the deal to film at Fox Studios in mid-April. The big-budget Hollywood blockbuster was expected to create around 500 local jobs, including 100 performers and 200 crew.

While most offshore productions lock in finance when a project is green-lit, it is understood that ongoing work on the Green Lantern script delayed that move. Pre-production on the film was originally scheduled for July and filming for November.

Not surprisingly, neither has had much to say to the magazine.

Good! Maybe it will be canceled and a less boring Green Lantern than Hal Jordan will be chosen in a future script.

Sorry, Hal Jordan IS GL. Of course they would do a movie using him. To use anyone else would be like making a movie of Bat-Mite and forgetting about Batman. You want a movie about someone else, you make it.

I agree, HL is the shiznick, I'm 39 & HL is the only GL I've ever known except for the black guy on Justice League Unlimited & he's boring. I just saw the new animated GL movie & it was awesome & I can't wait for the live action movie, oh & the Robotech movie also, I'm about to wet myself over that one...

Any film series about Green Lantern has to start with Hal's origin. You can't do Kyle or John or Guy with out Hal first. Unless you scrap the whole GLC concept and do a Alan Scott story. Which I doubt they would do. Since the majority of any modern audience will only know vaguely admittedly about Hal and the Corps and would walk into a Alan movie going WTF.

It could not possibly be worst that GL: First Flight, what a load of trash. Any true story of the GL should include all the Sector 2814 lanterns and play lip service to Alan Scott minimum. Debate of who is better then whom is pointless and just a matter of opinion anyway. Hal, John, Guy, Kyle have all been the ‘official’ lantern of Sector 2814 at some point. Debate over who is better is little more than a debate over who is stronger Hulk or Superman. There are so many years of GL history, it would be a disservice to ignore entire chunks to focus on a single character. Just imagine a Fantastic Four movie that features only Mr. Fantastic, ridiculous.

Guardian: Maybe you missed the title of the movie: Green Lantern: FIRST FLIGHT. To use your analogy, they should have included Spiderman in the Fantastic Four movie, since at one time he was a part of F4. An origin story has to start somewhere, and for the modern Earth GL's, that's Hal Jordan. There's a whole lot of story between him and any other GL from Earth.

CONSIDERING that First Flight , was the only GL movie i can think of to date they did a pretty good job ..
A Alan Scott movie would fall some where along the lines of MAGIC and not Tech "Alan Scott's Green Lantern history traditionally began thousands of years ago when a mystical "green flame" meteor fell to Earth in ancient China... more to be found @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Lantern#Alan_Scott..

Granted i did not grow up with him or i'd be arguing in his favor .. but i did grow up reading about Hal Jordan Guy Gardner John Stewart and Kyle Rayner .. of those 4 i like Hal and Kyle the most and am glad they are doing the GL title some justice and starting with Hal .. and not caving to some racial rants and raves " Oh Gl is Black this Black that ... "

Lets hope Ryan does a good job portraying my FAV comic book hero of all times ,,, and for those who feel john is being "dissed" or what have you .. guess what his in the upcomming JL movie so kiss off ..

I really hope that they do the whole Emerald Twilight Saga .. that would be sweet .. imo

i have no problem with hal. In Hollywood fashion i bet they give him the job of hal and some of the other characteristics of kyle.
