\<em\>Sherlock Holmes\<\/em\> viral marketing campaign begins

Warner Brothers Pictures has launched a viral campaign for the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Eddie Marsan and Kelly Reilly, comingsoon.net reported.

Check out the viral site here. To access the site, type "IRENE" (for Rachel McAdams' character, Irene Adler) in the boxes and you'll then be taken to a video of a hooded man, followed by a page where you can register your email address to receive further updates.

The mystery action adventure opens in theaters on Christmas Day.

I'm surprised SciFi Wire didn't cover the casting of Moriarty- Brad Pitt will be playing Holmes' opposite number, mostly to set up a potential sequel.

Some good people involved, this might be worth seeing!

This has nothing to do with the way Sherlock Holmes was intended to be by his creator. I will never see this movie, and I hope it flops on its first week.

@ Holmes Fan

Wow... I never thought that 'irrational fanboy syndrome' would extend even to hardcore fans of stories such as Sherlock Holmes...

Seriously, Sherlock Holmes was always intended to be wonderfully entertaining, pulp fiction. Doyle himself was not above making fun of his own character.

This movie is intended to update the story and entertain new fans while keeping the spirit of the original. Lighten up a bit.

When Billy Wilder's "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" came out almost 40 years ago, some were going mad - mad, I tell you! - because they thought the movie hinted that Holmes and Watson were gay. It didn't. I think I'll keep my own counsel until this film comes out.
