In a world in which Hasbro's Transformers and G.I. Joe are adapted into movies that gross hundreds of millions of dollars, to say nothing of sales of DVDs and tie-in products, it seems inevitable that more movies based on toy lines should be on the way. But... a movie based on Lego?
According to a report in Variety, Warner Brothers is developing a movie based on the interlocking blocks that will be a "family comedy that will mix live action and animation." The movie will be produced by Roy Lee, the king of the Hollywood remakes, who has previously made, or re-made, The Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, The Lake House, The Invasion and Shutter in addition to the Oscar-winning remake The Departed. Lee and screenwriters Dan and Kevin Hageman have reportedly been working closely with the Danish toy company to create the premise for the film.
With Major Matt Mason, Stretch Armstrong, View-Master and Hot Wheels movies also in the works, it looks like toy adaptations might be the new trend in movies, supplanting remakes. The new He-Man movie will, admirably, manage to be both a toy adaptation and a remake.

If you're going to make a movie about Legos, you need to add all the little elements that would make it a true Lego experience. First, the family dog needs to chew up all the special parts. Second, about halve the new set will get lost either outside, or somewhere in the couch. Third, in the middle of the night, someone will step on one of the smallest piece hidden in the shag rug with their bare feet.

I can understand G.I. Joe, He-Man or Transformers, at least they have faces, personalities and stories.
But, c'mon, Legos??? They're making a movie about plastic bricks. This, along with the announced Viewmaster movie, just proves there are too many hacks in Hollywood trying to ride the gravy train without actually being creative and original.
Look at the producer, almost every movie he's done is just a copy of a foreign horror movie. How in the world is he qualified to make a kid's film? According to IMDB he has over 36 movies in development (meaning they may, or more likely, may not be made). That doesn't include the 10 "in production" movies coming out over the next three years, almost every one of them remakes, "reimagings" or sequals to earlier remakes/reimagings.
How about Omnibot, Silverhawks, Battle Beasts, Cabbage Patch Kids, Megaman or even a live Crash Test Dummies?

LEGO Technics meet the Stargate replicators, and develop meat fuel cells. So, will it go with an R rating or will they tone it down to PG-13?
Slow moving teenagers vs sharp edged plastics. Mmmmm...

Actually, this would not be half bad if they focused on the Lego brand Bionicle.

C'mon you guys....atleast it's a more plausible idea than one for the Viewmaster...lol

SithBoy hit it on the head with Bionicles. Anything else would seem a s-t-r-e-t-c-h. Oh no. There's another toy movie.

This has GOT TO BE a joke. No way, I'm hoping that this is just some studios joke to see how far they can get something so stupid and moronic passed around. Otherwise, I'm just gonna give up on movies start reading more books if all I have to look forward to are remakes and crap like a view master movie and legos.

No Hollywood Lego movie can top the Lego version of MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL's "Knights of the Round Table" song.

A friend of mine is a very talented writer with some great ideas. He's trying desperately to get noticed and into the business... and this is what we're getting instead? A movie based on LEGO, really? The View Master movie sounds insane but could be fun for the kiddies if marketed in 3D. I had fun visiting a LEGO store in Florida, but the plot was pretty thin and there were no twists, Thank you for leaving the name of the SciFi Wire alone. Occasionally it does spit out actual news.
