Do you remember who first said, "Eat dessert first?" We don't either. But based on these cakes inspired by Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Lord of the Rings and more, it had to have been a sci-fi fan. Check out the 17 stunning cakes below, any one of which is sure to satisfy your sci-fi sweet tooth—as well as your eyes.
And if you're wondering why we're serving cakes today of all days, it's because Syfy just turned 17! The first program broadcast on Sept. 24, 1992, was—appropriately enough—Star Wars.

I think the Back to the Future one looks the most complex, but, dude what is up with the creepy Spiderman cake?
By Warlock at 12:13 AM ON 09/25/09
It's not just Spider Man, it's a recreation of a Marvel Zombies cover, an image which echoed another previous Spider-Man cover years past.

I read the title of this article and thought.. wow should have submitted my cake.. and then scrolled down and WHAM!!! there is was.. Star Trek Borg Cake. That was my wedding cake.. two of the cubes were chocolate and one strawberry... and they tasted great.

Gotta love the Stargate Cake!!
By Kelson at 2:37 AM ON 09/25/09
My wife made the Battlestar Galactica cake between Discworld and Jabba the Hutt. I don't know if comments here accept links, but if they do, here's a step-by-step photoset of making the cake. (If the link doesn't go through, search Google for "alenxa battlestar galacticake" without quotes.)

This post would be better if you credited the people who made the cakes.
By Laura E. at 4:14 AM ON 09/25/09
Dude, where are the credits for the people who made the cakes? So not cool. If this were the movie "Aladdin", you'd have your hands chopped off for stealing.

Hey what about some Dr Who cakes?

I know 'Ace of Cakes' has recently done a Dalek cake in the Dr Who theme, and there was an Andromeda Slip Fighter one done a while back for one of their celebrations... Funny thing about cakes, sometimes the worst looking ones taste the best, and the best looking ones taste of sawdust... and then there is eating your cake, and having it too... - kh

1.21 Cakeawatts, there's no way to generate that much flavor except a bolt of frosting!
It would be really tragic to eat the town square cake. Especially since the backlot that inspired it is gone.
The Spider-Man cake is a recreation of Marvel Zombies as well as the Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and Mary Jane Watson wedding issue.

WOW! Some people have too much time on their hands, but the imagination to do something about it! Love the At-at, but Minas Tirith and Diskworld are where it's at!

I have a sister-in-law who makes cakes, and she did Darth Vaders head, and Iron Mans head. As well, she said how a friend of hers made her own Death Star cake, and even showed me some photos. Very COOL!!

Love that alternate spider-man from the marvel zombies line.
By dedavidson2 at 10:56 AM ON 09/25/09
Y'all should see a picture of the Darth Vader groom's cake my wife had made for me!

My friend Tina Zettel with Simply Yours Patisserie made the Borg cake for one of my friends. It was very cool to see it all come together. Who knew so much went in to creating cake art. A re-launched http://simplyyourspatisserie.com will be coming soon.

Just curious - who made the cakes.
Some of them look like they were made by Duff from Ace of Cakes.
After all, he did a very good Dalak and Hogwarts Castle

The Minas Tirith is awesome! As are the rest. Funny that some commenters here are actually the creators. Pretty cool GEEKYFANBOY and KELSONS wife.
By wintermute44 at 12:31 PM ON 09/25/09
FYI - The Marvel Zombies one isn't really a cake... it's just a cupcake tower with a statue on the top. You can find the statue here...

Sources? On the interwebs? Who needs those! You can just steal photos from other places and articles and put them on your site!
Party time, Scifiwire!
By BlaqueSaber at 2:56 PM ON 09/25/09
I'm saddened that Spiderman took up a 'scifi' spot which could have been filled by Farscape...

It's a pity that the Stargate cake is missing a chevron...
By Sandy at 12:36 AM ON 09/26/09
The little Ewok cupcakes besides the Star Wars Walker are just too cute. But for "eatability," my favorite would have the be the BSG insignia cake. All that chocolate. Yum... The Minas Tirith cake is beyond detailed. I can't imagine how long it took to sculpt all those little nooks and crannies. Too bad no one made a Farscape or Firefly cake. I'd love to see a Moya or Serenity done in fondant or the Peacekeeper insignia in colored buttercream.
By Sulien at 3:48 AM ON 09/26/09
One Cake to rule them all! That Minas Tirith cake is almost worth getting married again for. Almost.

I have to chime in on the Serenity came from Charm city cakes that was featured on Ace of Cakes... It was really cool.
By billythegoat101 at 11:48 PM ON 09/29/09
these are all fine and stuff but where is *the* cake?
GLaDOS is sad :(
By ARGblue at 4:09 PM ON 09/30/09
Wow no credits for the people who made the cakes or where you got the photos. You should know better! Your company would sue someone if that was your work!
By Spectre at 2:46 PM ON 10/02/09
No TARDIS representing Doctor Who!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
By Martrex at 2:01 AM ON 10/03/09
I still support the idea that cake is lie. Fools, do not fall in the trap.
