Zoe Saldana is eager to reprise the role of Nyota Uhura in the inevitable sequel to J.J. Abrams' hit Star Trek movie and is looking forward to three big things:
"To get to go back to Star Trek and see Chris [Pine]'s baby-blue eyes and get to kiss Spock, Zachary [Quinto], and to work with J.J. I couldn't have been in a better environment, from the writers to the producers," she told a group of reporters (including SCI FI Wire) last week. "[It's exciting] to get to relive that experience in another adventure in space."
But there's one thing she's not looking forward to: fitting into Uhura's form-fitting uniform. "I'm not looking forward to the dress," Saldana admitted with a laugh. "It just means I have to hit the gym two months before we start shooting, so I'm not looking forward to that."
Abrams' Star Trek reboot has taken in more than $380 million worldwide, and a sequel is in development.
Saldana also has starring roles in James Cameron's upcoming 3-D sci-fi epic Avatar and Warner Brothers' adaptation of the DC/Vertigo graphic novel The Losers.
There's one other thing that Trek has given Saldana: a new life as a fan convention regular for years to come. "They're perks," Saldana said. "Besides the financial perks of signing on to films that turn into franchises is that you get to work with the actors and the directors all over again."

You don't have any talent at all, your lines were deliberately placed into a movie your character shouldn't have been in simply to pander to strong women, and then you enraged the Star Trek base by making out with Spock on-screen. You're worried about the uniform? LOL!
But getting to hear Uhura's made-up first name was nice...

@Shooter let's give it up to another hater on the website who mocks and pretends they hate all of this stuff, and yet takes the time to comment.
I've followed Star Trek since the originals that I saw in reruns, but STNG was my series, and as a fan, but only casual I guess, the new movie was very fun and entertaining. Vulcan being destroyed was crazy, but I think I can get over it.

@Shoooter: What an @ss. First, your comments on her talents are uncalled for and in my opinion incorrect. Second, please explain why her character should not have been there. Yes I understand the original canon, still don't see the issue. Next, don't see why your been threatened by strong women should be an issue for the rest of us. And last, the name was not made up entirely. It has been used eleswhere in the Star Trek media universe, just on on film or TV before. Get over it. Aside from the make out in the transporter which seemed out of character for even the rewritten characters, I had no problem with the rest of the scenes she was in.

@ Shooter: Here's a newsflash: It's ALL made-up.

"then you enraged the Star Trek base by making out with Spock on-screen."
Has "the Star Trek base" ever watched early episodes of TOS? Uhura flirts with Spock... A lot. Even my partner noticed it...
Just wondering...
By _Maltheus_ at 9:45 AM ON 09/14/09
I don't care about what's canon, that movie had the stupidest plot I've seen in years. Indefensibly stupid. Not sure why it has so many defenders. Most people fall back on the "acting," but I didn't think that was particularly good either.
By InfiniteMonkey at 9:56 AM ON 09/14/09
@Shooter. You have got some Oedipal complex mate. LOL!
By gregcox at 10:07 AM ON 09/14/09
Speak for yourself, shooter. I've been a Trekkie for over forty years now, consider myself a hardcore part of the "Star Trek" base and I thought it was great that Uhura finally got to be the female lead in a Trek movie. Nor was I "enraged" by the Spock/Uhura business. I thought that was a bold idea, an I'm VERY curious to see where they go with it in the next movie.
By Mel51 at 11:00 AM ON 09/14/09
I have to agree. She did display little talent in this film and quite reminds me of Star Trek Barbie she is so generic. I know she has her supporters, as anyone does, but I'd never heard of her before this movie and wouldn't miss her if she was gone. I loved the movie and am a Trek fan, so I am not a hater, I just feel she was too bland. I did notice the females flirting with Spock through the whole TOS series and wasn't upset the movie Uhura made out with him. She was the one actor that came up consistently in conversations about the movie that should be replaced with a much stronger presence.

I think Mr. Shooter didn't see the same movie I did. As a long time follower of Star Trek... first season, year one, all the various sequel series, heck, I even read a couple of the novels. And saw the cartoon series on first release. I think that gives me the chops to say that the new Trek movie wasn't bad. It was quite a bit above the bulk of the previous movies, a lot better than Star Trek: Shatner Tanks (5, the one with the godlike alien...hehe).
As for Uhura... she's been mostly a weakly written but much loved character since the beginning. They gave her more to work with in the last movie than they had in the whole series up to this point. At least she didn't 'dance to enflame the hearts' of the bad guys. She did her job and had a brief fling with Spok while not being a commo officer. This fling was suggested in several episodes of classic trek, and I didn't find it surprising or odd or out of place at all. Pre-Nurse Chapel, of course.
If you don't like Trek, don't watch it There will be more seats available for those of us who do like it that way. LOL.

A consistent story! That's the one thing I want for the next Trek movie.
By PepperEyes at 1:54 PM ON 09/14/09
Why do people call this a reboot? If I reboot my computer...I get the exact same computer.
This was a Reformat/Install Linx
It was an OK movie, but it did take 40 years of Star Trek History and shove on archive tapes, so that they can alter all the 'rules' of the game. Evenerything we knew from 'The Managerie, to Star Trek: Namesis' just hasn't happened in that Universe...and it's a Trek Universe with limited Vulcan influence.
I've had to deal with the rewrite of Battlestar Galactica...which was OK...now this.
At least Doctor Who has the beauty of being abut time/space travel ..and we see the cause and effects of events.
As the old Sarek said...."Only Time will tell"

PepperEyes:
Don't worry so much. It didn't wipe out the original Trek universe. It's running parallel to it, like the Mirror Universe. So enjoy whichever Trek universe you wish.

You guys are just giving posters like shooter3018 what he wants. Nerds like that have orgasms when they stir up bullcrap about successful franchises. Trust me, there's a reason he calls himself shooter.
By MNgolfer at 9:28 PM ON 09/14/09
@Shooter: Why do your comments remind me of "The Comic Book Guy" on the Simpsons?
By PG15 at 1:00 AM ON 09/15/09
@Shooter: Man, you're worse than Kanye.
By Shooter3018 at 2:05 AM ON 09/15/09
I love the comic book guy! And Kanye doesn't have any talent either. And gregcox, maybe that's where Tuvok will come from in the sequel! Fake Spock + Fake Uhura and they'll beam him aboard using red matter somehow...
By jdg at 9:50 AM ON 09/15/09
Reading user comments just reinforces for me that Darwin was wrong. If there was such a thing as evolution, there wouldn't be lonely sci-fi geeks in their parent's basements cranking out attacks about people he/she will never be in the same league with. The bottom just keeps being dredged.
By Rob at 2:34 PM ON 09/15/09
Wannabes, keep trying to convince yourselves, because you can't convince us. No true Star Trek fan liked this movie.
By John at 2:38 PM ON 09/15/09
fizzben: What nerve it takes to call someone else a nerd on a sci-fi message board.
Shooter: more fans agree with you than disagree.
By Vikes4ever at 5:12 PM ON 09/15/09
@Rob: Whatever. That's pretty freaking arrogant. "No true Star Trek fan liked this movie." Blah, blah, blah. What makes you a better Star Trek fan than any of us who have tuned in to all of the series and all of the movies and have enjoyed them all? Just because you don't agree that it was an entertaining and enjoyable Star Trek film, doesn't make you a freaking "true" Star Trek fan over the rest of us. Pop a pin in that over-inflated opinion of yourself.
By Al at 6:47 PM ON 09/15/09
I've always liked Trek and even if I didn't like every franchise they made from it I can honestly point to several episodes out of every series that are worthwhile and worthy of the popularity.
Uhura is great in this new "reality" and I hope to see another great flick soon.
It's a shame we'll never get to see a movie version of "Q-Squared". That was one of may fave books which brought together multiple realities and crew of trek.
Ah, well... Maybe someone will do a computer animation version with their Mac. :)
By Rob at 12:07 PM ON 09/16/09
I loved this movie and can't wait for the sequel. Long live Trek!
