7 years after Firefly: Where are they now?

7 years after \<I\>Firefly\<\/I\>: Where are they now?

When Fox premiered Firefly on Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, all things seemed possible. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel were still on the air and Joss Whedon was a god to us. He could do anything, and a bright, shiny new television show about a motley crew of smugglers who traveled aboard a Firefly-class spaceship called Serenity in the year 2517 seemed like it had infinite possibilities.

That was seven years ago, and I have to admit I fell in love at first viewing. Unfortunately, only me and 4.7 million or so of my best friends tuned in to watch Firefly on Friday nights. That wasn't nearly enough for Fox, and Firefly was canceled with only 11 of the 14 filmed episodes aired.

7 years after \<I\>Firefly\<\/I\>: Where are they now?

I was left wondering if I'd ever see those final three episodes, but luckily the DVD gave us a chance to see them, and then that did well enough to convince Universal Pictures that the crew's story wasn't done yet. The movie Serenity allowed Joss to tie up some stories—and kill off some characters.

Meanwhile, the cast and crew, of course, has moved on. Seven years later, here's what Joss and the cast of Firefly and Serenity have been up to.

Joss Whedon

After all of his shows left the air, Joss Whedon got busy with Web sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, writing comic books and screenplays. Then he had lunch with actress Eliza Dushku and came up with the concept for her new show, Dollhouse, on the spot. He made friends with Fox again, which seemed like a mistake in so many ways. Paired with Terminator on Friday nights, Dollhouse never gained momentum, and it didn't seem to have a chance. Then a miracle happened and the sci-fi spy show was picked up while Terminator was canceled. The second season of Dollhouse debuted last Friday with approximately 2.7 million viewers, a couple million less than Firefly managed on Fridays when it was canceled. Color that ironic.

Nathan Fillion

FireflyNathanFillion.jpg

Since he starred as Capt. Mal Reynolds, Nathan Fillion has done well at playing rascals in a variety of roles, including the lead in a couple of short-lived series, Miss Match and Drive. However, it looks like he may have found a home on ABC's Castle as roguish novelist Richard Castle, who works with the police to solve crimes while annoying his pretty police detective partner.

Gina Torres

FireflyGinaTorres.jpg

The statuesque Gina Torres started off with such projects as Hercules, Cleopatra 2525 and The Matrix Reloaded before taking on the role of the tough and beautiful Zoë Washburne, Mal's loyal first officer. After Firefly, Torres appeared in regular roles on Angel, 24, Justice League, Alias and Standoff. Coming up, you'll be able to catch her guest-starring on ABC's FlashForward.

Alan Tudyk

FireflyAlanTudyk.jpg

I'll never understand how Whedon could have killed off the charming Wash Washburne, the ship's pilot and Zoe's husband, in Serenity. (Not that I'm bitter!) Still, his character's death hasn't held him back. Alan Tudyk has been in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, 3:10 to Yuma and the Halo 3: ODST video game. Last season, Whedon cast him as the twisted Alpha in Dollhouse, a role that begs for a return at some point. This season Tudyk will guest-star in the pilot episode of ABC's V, which premieres in November.

Morena Baccarin

FireflyMorenaBaccarin.jpg

Morena Baccarin played Inara Serra, the comely companion and only respectable person on the ship. She's taken on a wide variety of roles in Still Life, Justice League, The O.C. and Heartland. Still, she continues to be pulled back toward sci-fi. Her most notable role for sci-fi audiences is as Adria on Stargate SG-1. However, she'll soon be appearing in a leading role this season on V as Anna, the leader of the visitors.

Adam Baldwin

FireflyAdamBaldwin.jpg

You've got to love a rough-and-tumble guy named Jayne, especially if he's played by Adam Baldwin. The busy actor has guest-starred in Angel, Stargate SG-1, Jackie Chan Adventures, The Inside and the quickly canceled Day Break. But NBC's Chuck seems to have made the best use of his talents as the gruff NSA operative John Casey. Chuck returns for its third season after the Olympics in March of 2010.

Jewel Staite

FireflyJewelStaite.jpg

Jewel Staite played the gifted ship's mechanic, Kaylee Frye, and she's had guest-starring roles in Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls and The Forgotten Ones. However, it wasn't until Stargate: Atlantis that she began appearing in a ongoing role again, playing Dr. Jennifer Keller. Rumors are that Dr. Keller will return, despite the fact that the series finished its run. Reports are that Staite is starring in the first Stargate Atlantis movie, Stargate: Extinction, which would air first on Syfy and then be released on DVD.

Sean Maher

FireflySeanMaher.jpg

Sean Maher co-starred as Dr. Simon Tam, the sensitive yet determined brother who'd do anything to protect his sister, River. Maher has guest-starred in Ghost Whisperer, CSI: Miami and Drop Dead Diva and starred in the A&E movie Wedding Wars. He is currently working on a romantic comedy called Timing, starring opposite Eureka's Colin Ferguson as his love interest.

Summer Glau

FireflySummerGlau.jpg

Summer Glau's role as River Tam, the schizophrenic young genius who's on the run from the Alliance with her brother Simon, was one of her first. Since then she's gone on to have recurring roles in The Unit and The 4400 and most notably to star in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as the Terminator Cameron. Ironically for Glau, it's been confirmed that she'll join Fox's Dollhouse (the show that was renewed in place of Terminator) this season in the recurring role Bennett, an eccentric programmer for a rival Dollhouse.

Ron Glass

FireflyRonGlass.jpg

Character actor Ron Glass brought some real depth to Firefly in the role of Shepherd Derrial Book. Like Wash, Book deserved a better death than the one he got in the movie Serenity. Glass has guest-starred in The Division, Shark, Dirty Sexy Money and Lakeview Terrace. His comedy about misplaced bodies and family secrets, Death at a Funeral, is due out in the spring of 2010.

GINA TORRES WILL BE ON GOSSIP GIRL TOO!

By robnubis at 2:05 PM ON 09/29/09

Also Nathan, Alan and Adam all voiced main characters in Halo 3 ODST.

What matters most is that Firefly is not on the air anymore.

But some studios are planning on doing some sci-fi wester shows coming up. So they are finally catching on.

By drwhat at 2:06 PM ON 09/29/09

Man I miss this show. When I see all the crap out there that gets renewed year after year. Yet this one didnt even get to finish up its first year, it's a galactic size injustice !

By Jess at 2:07 PM ON 09/29/09

Casey is now Colonel John Casey, not Major.

By Caro at 2:19 PM ON 09/29/09

I miss Firefly/Serenity so much. I keep thinking of all the stories that COULD have been written by Joss for these amazing characters......reminds me of Moonlight on CBS..............

By TrueEddie at 2:21 PM ON 09/29/09

Everytime I read or see something about Firefly it makes me a little sad inside. Why did it have to end!

By M at 2:28 PM ON 09/29/09

All good things end, garbage unfortunately seems to be forever...

By Jayguana at 2:29 PM ON 09/29/09

Come on Syfy do your research, Alan Tudyk was in the original 'Death at a Funeral'. Nothing to do with syfy but im not going to go see the american version of this movie. If you want some great laughs check the original out. And Im sorry but Dollhouse's first episode this year was terrible, and Joss is so perdictable that if the show last long enough he will pull an 'Angel' and have the good guys running the house before long.

By Plirus at 2:41 PM ON 09/29/09

@Jayguana

"Why are my hands SOOO big?"

Original "Death at a Funeral" was indeed funny.

By Amy at 2:52 PM ON 09/29/09

I can't believe Dollhouse gets about half the viewers that Firefly did! These days, over 4 million on a Friday night would be considered a hit.

R.I.P. Firefly *sob*

By JimJohnson9 at 3:17 PM ON 09/29/09

Wasn't Gina Torres a guest star on The Shield as well?

By ATK at 3:28 PM ON 09/29/09

It may have been seven years but many of us are still mourning. This beloved show will continue to live in the hearts and minds of its fans for many years. The best that we can do is continue to discuss it and bring others into the fold. Unlike many shows after its demise it is my firm belief that Firefly/Serenity's fan base is growing. I have loaned my box set numerous times and encourage you all to do the same. (Admittedly though I've had a hard time getting it back and have even had to rebuy it once) Even though the war is over it does not mean we have to accept it and we can continue on in the world with our belief that this show is one of the greatest shows and this fight is a good fight. Though it may be decades (see Star Trek Franchise) their is always the possibility that the Browncoats will rise again.

By islesfan at 3:33 PM ON 09/29/09

Firefly was simply the best Sci-Fi series that didn't contain the words "Star Trek" anywhere in the title. Joss' best work and gone way before its time.

If you haven't tried Cantle, however, you have to try it. It is an amazing snow. It's no Firefly, but it is well worth watching.

By Allen Charles at 3:55 PM ON 09/29/09

The problem is the broadcast network model which has cost for shows being too expensive and income to networks too low to allow shows to stay on the air without very large audiences of several millions of viewers.

I still believe if a channel on cable would go after good shows like Firefly and several others that can not get the huge numbers necessary for broadcast networks but can get three of four million fans like you and I could have something to watch on tv. BSG only got about two and a half million viewers but was successful. Even Defying Gravity got more viewers than BSG and Dollhouse would be ok on cable with its present ratings.

The network model is slowly dying because cost verse viewers is not making any money. Cable on the other hand is doing well with one half of the same numbers

By ecks at 3:59 PM ON 09/29/09

Hey For Ron Glass you can't for get his roll on Barney Miller as Det. Ron Harris.

Gina Torres also played a starring in the Chris Rock movie: I think I love my Wife in 2007. She was great. I miss Firefly much.

By Wordwitty at 5:24 PM ON 09/29/09

They could always bring Firefly back and start from scratch. None of these actors have hit the A-list or movie stardom. It would be cheaper to produce the show today, since those documentary-style special effects were state of the art when Firefly did it and now other shows are doing it (or were until Galactica ended.) It was a whole lot better than Dollhouse will ever be.

By Pixel at 6:07 PM ON 09/29/09

And don't forget Gina popped up in an episode of Pushing Daisies, too! How I miss that show - but not as much as I miss Firefly! Really intruiged by the sound of Sean's new film, too - he's such a sweetie!

By morganmcalister at 6:13 PM ON 09/29/09

Gina Torres had a great guest role on The Shield as Forrest Whitaker's crazy ex-wife.

Sweet butter!

By dman at 7:40 PM ON 09/29/09

For fans of Firefly I'm a little concerned that everyone let the author get away with saying Wash's first name is Wash. It's Hoban "Wash" Washburne.

By ecgordon at 7:44 PM ON 09/29/09

I've liked quite a few shows in the past seven years, but none as much as Firefly, which I still consider the best television show ever produced, regardless of genre. How many other shows can you name where the first fourteen episodes were as good? The greatest tragedy is the stories we never got. The series needs to be revived, even if it is just straight to dvd (and you know that would sell a ton), or two more films to complete our Big Damn Trilogy.

By TV Obsessed at 8:06 PM ON 09/29/09

I just had to add that Jewel Staite was in an episode of The X-Files

By Omen at 8:24 PM ON 09/29/09

I like to think that Firefly is still running in an alternate universe.
Now if I could only get there & buy the DVDs.

Morena Baccarin was also in an episode of Numbers last year.

By JmBa at 9:01 PM ON 09/29/09

Sean Maher was also the lead in a sweet little indie with Jaime Ray Newman. The eye candy was strong with that one.

@Jayguana yeah, the orig. Death at a Funeral was hi-larious!

I've thought that, too!

Gina Torres was also in a couple of episodes of "Eli Stone" as a lawyer last year.

I miss Pushing Daisies, too! Why do the BEST shows always get canceled?

By zathras at 10:49 PM ON 09/29/09

I guess I've come across so many obsessive fans singing the praises of Firefly, that I just have to add my own opinion--it was only an ok show. Not great, or sublime, of life-changing. Just a somewhat entertaining show that was good enough to have deserved a longer run, but not so fantastic that it deserves to be put up on a pedestal as an example of superlative science fiction.

It did have a cast of fairly engaging, charismatic actors, and some interesting plots. But it also had a fairly silly premise--cowboys in space--and the dialog could be so pretentious it sometimes made me feel like I was watching "The Gilmore Girls Go to Outer Space."

Ok, there. I've vented my spleen. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

By B at 11:01 PM ON 09/29/09

If we're going down the Died Too Young route....

I still mourn Wonderfalls.

By Wendel at 11:25 PM ON 09/29/09

Big ups to zathras - Firefly's rabid fan base is perfect proof of the idiocy of the fanboy community. At Comic-Con, Serenity was overwhelmingly voted the greatest science fiction movie of all time. Not 2001. Not Blade Runner. Not any of the Star Wars movies. Serenity.

An entertaining movie from an entertaining show, sure. Wonderful dialogue, I'll give you that as well. But better than 2001, one of the most profound movies ever made? The same could be said of Blade Runner. Dumb, just really dumb.

By tati at 11:26 PM ON 09/29/09

After all the riotous debate here and in a million other forums, I can't believe the author fell into the TSCC/Dollhouse trap by saying that, "...Dollhouse was renewed in place of Terminator." LOL

The original Death at a Funeral was hilariious! I saw it on a plane to Europe a couple of years ago and bought the DVD when I got home. I can't believe they're remaking it already! It had some of my fave Brit actors, along with Alan.

Castle is ok but I really don't like the female cop. To me, there's no chemistry there. Maybe I'm still mourning the fact that Mal and Inara never got together :(

By digopheliadug at 11:44 PM ON 09/29/09

I believe I read somewhere that Gina Torres will have a guest or possibly recurring role on Gossip Girl as Vanessa's mom.

Yes, I watch Gossip Girl. My television interests are strange and diverse.

By ashpage at 12:01 AM ON 09/30/09

The show wasn't about "cowboys in space" at all.

I have a hard time believing that anyone who has seen all the episodes and the movie would even want to associate their name with a comment like that.

By ecgordon at 12:16 AM ON 09/30/09

To zathras and Wendel, I have no problem with other people who have a different opinion of Firefly. After all that is what opinions are all about, unique to the individual. I might not agree with what you think is the best tv show, however I do agree that 2001 and Blade Runner are better than Serenity.

By dandogd at 12:37 AM ON 09/30/09

As much as I would love to see Firefly return as a series, it's probably not going to happen. To be fair, Firefly and Serenity only really became successful in DVD sales, so Fox should aim to try and cater to that market, like what SyFy are doing with the Stargate movies.

Both of the SG-1 movies did well on DVD, and they were all filmed within a span of a month or two each. That means that it requires less time commitment from the actors and should be easier to schedule around any of their current projects.

Joss has shown how well he can do without a huge budget in Serenity, and even the 24 tv movie was shot on a small budget and it impressed Fox with how cinema-worthy it looked. They could just pump out two or three films a year. It's a waste to have developed these characters and worlds without actually using them.

By whatthe at 12:43 AM ON 09/30/09

Adam Baldwin is great on Chuck. Everyone should check it out!!

By Flux Cheese at 12:52 AM ON 09/30/09

After the craze and rave of Firefly, instead of Serenity, you know, which is awesome, they should have picked up the series again or atleast auctioned it off to other studios.. F**K FOX for this.. but in all honesty.. Firefly had no buisness on network TV.. If it aired on Sci-fi channel (yes SYFY I know) it would have had five season.. oh the glory..

By tdbrown at 2:24 AM ON 09/30/09

You left out Nathan Fillion's stellar performances in "Saving Private Ryan" and "Waitress".

Alan Tudyk stole the show in "Death at a Funeral", and I wish Ron Glass well in the remake. -Stupid, though, to do a remake less than 3 years after the original

By BigDogDigBog at 2:52 AM ON 09/30/09

@ Flux Cheese:

I agree. Why would Fox hold on to it if they had no intention of doing anything more with it? What could they possibly have to gain? They would at least make money if they sold the rights.

Also, having seen what Star Wars became, I am not impressed. Firefly was at least entertaining. It deserved to last way longer than it did.

By fullyAnimated at 3:04 AM ON 09/30/09

Wendel - So you you're a "fanboy" of 2001 and Star Wars and Blade Runner... and you're irked that others AREN'T? At Comic-Con, most people... probably too young for 2001 and the original SW and Blade Runner... voted for Serenity. Have you thought about why? Maybe it's THE SAME REASON 2001, SW and BR resonated with YOU! Serentiy was a fun, action packed, well written, space film with good effects that "spoke" to TODAY's fans. Ask yesteryear's fans and they'll probably agree with you, but don't call it "dumb" when today's fans aren't moved and touched by the movies that affected you so much. Times change. People change. The whole problem here is trying to preach to others what's "BEST". F*CK best. To each his own. But quit calling it "dumb" or "stupid" just because it doesn't jive with YOUR opinion. When you think about it... this is the crux of a lot of our more serious issues in our world... people not "agreeing" with what other people think is "best." Live and let live. If there is a "Judge" of all things out there, He'll do His job soon enough. If not, do we really want the responsibility of going around making judgements? Too much stress if you ask me. We're not infallible brother... OK, sermon over.

By tomfodw at 4:30 AM ON 09/30/09

Alan Tudyk was also in an episode of CSI.

Bah! We don't need shows like Firefly, or anything remotely original! What we need is another Cop Drama! Or ER/Gray's Anatomy Hospital Drama all about Doctors doin' each other and their patients! Yeah that's what we need! We need to clear a 10 O'clock time slot for A So-so comedian who wasn't really ready to let go of his talk show, so now we have The Tonight Show 2: Electric Boogaloo... Yeah! That's what we need!
/sarcasm end....

By Roger Workman at 10:24 AM ON 09/30/09

You forgot Alan Tudyk's absolutely hilarious role in "Death at a Funeral." Speaking of which, someone's remaking "Death at a Funeral?" WTF???

By Sam at 10:47 AM ON 09/30/09

Wendel has made an excellent point about the idiocy of fanboys. As far as Science Fiction goes, Firefly was a very long leap. To call it the best Science Fiction is not simply a joke, but an insult to intelligence. There is a reason both the show and movie failed, outside of a very vocal rabid fandom base this show is just not received well. For good reason, it just is not that great of a show. But never mind quality, fandom requires the absence of objectivity after all. This just shows where we are at these days, intelligent shows surprised by the idiotic. It is one thing to say you like a show, but to rank it above true Science Fiction classics is downright childish behavior by rabid fanboys. Next I suppose we can drop FDR and rank Hoover as our best President?

By thehomegaman at 11:31 AM ON 09/30/09

@fullyAnimated:

If the people at SDCC were voting for the best sci-fi film of all time, it stands to reason that they'd consider all films from "all time". So what if Serenity resonated in the now? If people were voting on the best sci-fi film of the now, then Serenity would be an appropriate choice for voters to consider.

Part of being the best of all time is standing the test of time, as 2001 and Blade Runner so clearly do. Serenity on the other hand... not so much.

By Archangel at 12:18 PM ON 09/30/09

Yeah I do not understand how Firefly can get over 4 million viewers during its run and get cancelled and Dollhouse does 2 million and were behind Terminator; The Sarah Conner Chronicles and get picked up for a second season.

By teknomage01 at 1:42 PM ON 09/30/09

I refuse to watch anything Joss Whedon does anymore because he killed of Wash in the movie.. for no really good reason (at least none that I have heard).

By missdothy at 4:34 PM ON 09/30/09

OMG I miss Firefly! It's the best sci-fi series i've watched. Too bad it was cancelled. I hope they could renew it or something.

By emarkayleewinnet at 4:43 PM ON 09/30/09

Yea, broadcast TV - something I grew up with and abandoned years ago. An old friend lent me the Firefly DVD's and I found them very well done. Serenity, yea it's a great film, but it's no Blade Runner or any number of the other "classic" SciFi films. Sad to see something creative cancelled, but that's broadcast TV. Get over it.

Now if only this broadcast Internet could produce things of that quality (in 1080I, of course) then maybe "Firefly" could live on, in "cyberspace". Avoid the hassles of big studios, the unions and the red tape.

Get the old cast together for some "home movies" and "wha-laa" new Firefly episodes streamed to your widescreen monitor, in glorious HD-Surround sound; Yea I'd pay a few bucks a show to see this!

By BKwurm1 at 4:49 PM ON 09/30/09

Wash got killed to create suspense for the rest of the movie. Suddenly no one was safe. Yes, Book had already died, but he was not on the ship any longer and the movie was called Serenity. So while it still really bothers me that Wash is dead, I understand the movie making reasons.

As for it being voted the top Sci Fi movie, I do know that when I recently found it on TV and stopped with the intention of staring at the pretty people for just a minute or two, I got completely sucked into the movie and was amazed how great a movie it really was. When I had seen it on the screen and when I first bought the DVD, my original Firefly love made it hard to judge the movie objectively. Now years later I am amazed at how good of a story it really is. The acting is superb, the moments of terror actually scary, the sad parts both touching and tragic , the big beautiful moments had wonder, the landscape of the movie was alien and familiar and it was all wrapped up in humor and a strong sense of family. This movie comes alive in ways that I have not found true with either 2001 or Blade Runner (which I also recently saw again-great movie but so damn depressing). YMMV

By Moldy at 4:51 PM ON 09/30/09

Opinions are opinions, no need to get butthurt over them, really :\ Serenity was a pretty good scifi movie, much better than any Star Trek movie. And better than the Star Wars movies (any of the six). But that's just my opinion. 2001 is definitely more profound and thought provoking than Serenity, though. However the best scifi would have to go to...

Children of Men. You could argue it's more drama less scifi, but science fiction doesn't necessarily have to mean fantastical. It just means fiction based on current theoretical science. Anyway, Children of Men is quite a good movie.

By iGraywolf at 5:35 PM ON 09/30/09

They even called him Nathon Fillion Captain Reynolds in halo3. Not to mention Seth Green. Made the game that much more awesome.

By Brian at 6:00 PM ON 09/30/09

I love Firefly/Serenity, I just don't really consider it science fiction.... it is more science-fantasy/adventure, in the same vein as Star Wars, or Abrams' new take on Star Trek.

So in that light, I do think it is one of the best movies in its genre ever made.

But to me, "real" science fiction explores the impact of ideas and technology on the human condition, makes the audience think. Firefly, for all its charms, charisma, and witty dialogue, doesn't really do that. And that's fine; there's plenty of room for both.

To all the people knocking Dollhouse, have you watched the final episode of season 1, that Fox in all its wisdom decided not to air (it's only available on DVD)? It hints at the sheer scope of where they plan on taking the show, and it's awesome. The first season is trivial fluff, on purpose. The start of the slippery slope.

Don't want to ruin anything, but watch Dollhouse S01E13 ("Epitaph One") before you make up your mind on the show.

By Chris at 6:37 PM ON 09/30/09

Once seen, never forgotten. I reckon the 'verse will rise again.

By ecgordon at 6:49 PM ON 09/30/09

To anyone who thinks I am just a childish fanboy, I'll have you know I turned 59 just a few days ago. I grew up on the original Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Star Trek, etc. I am an avid reader of SF too, Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, Niven, Pohl, and on and on. I've watched the majority of SF films and television over that span of years, and when I tell you Firefly is the best I've seen I am not joking. I don't need anyone else's validation for my own opinion.

It just so happens I consider 2001 the best SF film ever made, with Blade Runner at #2. Serenity is #3, but Firefly is #1 on tv as far as I'm concerned. If you can't accept that, then just suck it.

By Jeffery at 7:46 PM ON 09/30/09

Firefly rocks! Love the show like my electric cigarette

By joesocwork at 9:47 PM ON 09/30/09

I'm a convert who didn't discover Firefly until after I saw Serenity. What chemistry between those nine characters! Excellent writing with suspenseful plots with the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humour over a melancholy situation. Even the music with the country and western guitar in the background, letting us know this is a true sci-fi western hybrid. It was the best tv show that I never saw before DVD; eh it's my favorite show period. And I agree with the above, if they can't bring back the show seven years later then at least bring back the nine in something original on DVD a la SG-1. Come on Sy-Fy & Joss Whedon, there's obviously an audience here!

By Dave at 1:42 AM ON 10/01/09

Adam Baldwin was a regular cast member of The Inside, not a guest star.

>Kate and Katherines... looks like a trend
And now he's flirting with Det. Kate Beckett on Castle.

You know there are plenty of movies and shows that I don't particularly enjoy, but I don't feel the need to piss on people who have found a place to celebrate something they liked. I just don't get that attitude. And if "sublime" and "life-changing" are your criteria for a good TV show, there'd be no television today. That is setting the bar too high for any show.

Now to copy my text, reload the page, and past it back in because sci-fi wire still hasn't figured out how to run a damned forum (or a mobile website).

Adam's voice has also been heard as the man of steel himself, Superman in 'Superman:Doomsday'.

In addition to that, he's one of the voice actors in the upcoming War of the Worlds:Goliath which boasts a number of ex-Highlander alumni including exec producer David Abramowitz.

Arrested Development, FTW.

I fail to see what is so great about this show.
Before I get trampled on by you passionate
types, I tried the movie Serenity, then I tried
to watch some of the series. There was
nothing new or revolutionary about it.
Nothing that jumped out in front of me that
made me want to watch more. Oh well, I
guess, there's really not much of anything
good on TV and Scifi has really been watered-
down. I will try the new Star Gate Universe
and V out trying to keep an open mind.
Hopefully when Dr. Who gets out of
middle school, he will be able to command
the Tardis again next year:)

You have to mention that Nathan Fillion played Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog after mentioning it in Whedon's tidbit.

Also for those on Netflix, Serinity is currently on instant play.

I watched Firefly just this year, not sure it ever made it over here in the UK in 2002. It's brilliant and has a beautiful whimsical charm to it. The suits who cancelled it were idiots tbh.

Nathan Fillion likes getting take-out from Hunan Chinese at Sunset and Laurel, I know because I live on this street. Best take-out in Hollywood.

By jillflorio at 6:39 PM ON 10/01/09

Gina Torres was also on Xena, and had a nice guest role on CSI as a women's prison warden

By mister_d at 12:23 AM ON 10/02/09

TV needs more Jewel Staite tbh.

What about Morrena Baccarin on "How I Met Your Mother" as the girl with crazy eyes who gives NPH the name Swarley. Comedy gold my friends.

Has no one seen the movie Slither ,come on people it has Nathan Fillion in it . Great movie

By Bradachin at 9:58 PM ON 10/06/09

I loved Firefly, but my favorite of all time is Babylon 5.

By Mac at 11:52 PM ON 10/07/09

SyFy should stop talking about firefly and just pick it up as a series. If they love it then they should put a ring on it :P.

Did anyone mention that Alan Tudyk spent roughly a year on Broadway in Spamalot? Wash + killer wabbits = hi-larious!

By forlath at 10:12 AM ON 10/22/09

Wendel - to expect an audience from the year 2009 to objectively rate the greatest si-fi movie of ALL TIME without being influenced their present day experience is just plain silly. Cinema by its very nature is a product of and commentary on its period in time. Sam – comparing presidents is EXACTLY like comparing movies. Lol. And as long as we’re swapping opinions in the spirit of brotherly love – 2001 was as dull as rocks. Blade Runner on the other hand has some of the best cinematography of ALL TIME. Lol. I personally loved the clever dialogue of Firefly however pretentious and would be delighted to see this show resurrected in any form but just don’t see how it’s possible. Peace out.

The longer we wait the older everyone gets, and as much as I love Nathan to death, he's not quite the young spunky captain in the first season anymore.. 7 years is enough to do that to you. But now if we used graphics such as those used in "Serrogates" than that would be awesome.

Syfy needs to nip it in the butt, bite the bullet and just renew it. ABC seems to be a big fan since they are letting Nathan stick Firefly references everywhere and are open minded to a sci-fi like V and Alan and Morena.

Fox has it out for sci-fi. As proven with Firefly and the recently stamped out show: "Virtuality" also a interesting new take on scifi that hardly got one episode. Obviously Fox is more of a fan of med-drammas and soapy crime flics. Firefly deserved better it was fantastic and whitty and the characters were lovable. What the the last scifi that you heard of being picked up by Fox?

If FIREFLY had aired on ABC or SYFY (sci-fi)first they would have had the brains to renew it.

By webdiva at 4:43 AM ON 11/11/09

No, ABC *wouldn't* have had the brains to renew Firefly, given the lousy treatment it gave Defying Gravity and the dubious reworking FlashForward got so that it would look more like a Lost clone (pointless: they took a thought-provoking, genuine sci-fi premise from author Robert J. Sawyer's book, gutted it of any science, cluttered it with conspiracy theory, and dumped it in -- no, not again! -- L.A., of all places, as if that were the center of the world. Credible? Not!). For that matter, Lost itself is nonsense fantasy, not sci-fi, and I gave up trying to follow its increasingly ridiculous storylines ages ago. That leaves only V: in its slick reincarnation, it's sci-fi on steroids, which is fine, but it also had a great original premise that ABC has decided ot to tamper with too much. Good. But it's only one sci-fi show amid a bunch of (mostly failed) fantasy shows ABC has had on in recent years -- and *none* of them has been even half as good as the brilliantly reimagined Battlestar Galactica, so don't line ABC up for any kudos for sci-fi shows just yet. They haven't earned it.

"Fox has it out for sci-fi" heh. totally man, I do understand why it was cancelled though. It had no place being on Fox. None. It wasn't outfitted for mainstream and belonged somewhere more comfortable, somewhere not network television.
I love Firefly, love it, love it, love it. And although I love it, I agree with some of the people above. It wasn't a life-altering show, and as such doesn't need to be put up on a pedastool. Its all fine and dandy indulging in a bit of Firefly nastalgia every now and then, but seriously, the way some Firefly fans so desperately cling on to the show is a bit scary. TIme to let go I think, the Whedon's moved on and so has his crew.
