I still cant picture John Cusack in this kind of role, does anyone know why John Cusack was selected for this role ?
Please provide points on why i should see this movie starring John Cusack
By Kyall at 9:46 PM ON 09/05/09
@Muttley, don't.
By kryptoniteman at 11:23 PM ON 09/05/09
It makes as much sense to have John Cusak in this movie as it did to have Matthew Broderick up against Godzilla.
By dragonfield at 1:08 AM ON 09/06/09
This is going to be an awesome movie. Can't wait.
By Melora at 4:01 AM ON 09/06/09
Are they still hustling The Day After Independence Day? Aside from the premise, even the typeface of the tagline is the same as The Day After Tomorrow, and the typeface of the title looks like Independence Day, which suggests even more that this is merely just a Roland Emmerich "greatest hits" collection.
Zzzzzzzzzzz....something original please, Roland (but I'm dreading to see what a mess he makes of Asimov's Foundation stuff).

If I were to defend John Cusack in this role, it is that he has done a lot of the everyman roles who overcomes whatever he faces.
I expect to wait until it comes along on cable, but this movie will probably be entertaining if we don't think too hard or question the plausibility of the science. Amanda Peet is nice to look at.
And I actually think the Himalayan Monk poster is kind of cool. At least he'll reincarnate after he drowns.
By oneeye at 6:01 AM ON 09/06/09
It's about the Mayan prediction about doomsday so hopefully there will be some of that not just world destroying.
By Jonas72 at 6:11 AM ON 09/06/09
Yes, a nice dose of Emmerich destruction, I can go for that. Just gotta remember to shut down higher brain functions first. Not gonna rush out to see this one, though.

the end of the world as we know it. and i am sure i will see this on my birth month. don't know when.maybe on a weekend. and i am sure john will do a tremendous job on this 1.
By H at 11:49 AM ON 09/06/09
Corect me if I'm wrong (this is quite possible I must add ^^), but the Maya never predicted the end of the world. We're supose to exit the material world and enter the spiritual world.
Well, it's a little more complicated than that, but my point is, I don't know why everybody think that 1012 will be the end (like in 1999). The Maya Calendar predict the end of A world for sure but not THE world.
Like Melora I think it's look like The Day after Tomorrow (so far anyway). I believe this is a dramatic version of the Maya prediction.
Anyway, that's what I understood, I can make a mistake but if not, I'm not sure this movie will give a good idea of the Maya Calendar to the viewers.

This should be released as the one and only trailer for this film

1. Go see the movie so Danny Glover gets paid. :) I actually like Danny Glover though, so I'll give it a shot.
2. It's apparently (according to an interview I saw a few months ago) based on the world's polarity reversing. That, however, would not cause the tidal waves, etc. (So the science probably isn't on solid ground--pun intended.)
3. 2012 is based on a variety of prophetic visions, from Nostradamus to the Mayans to the I, Ching to the internet. Which is why it's more popular than other "end of the world" dates, excepting maybe what Y2K was (in popularity).
Seriously though, this has a decent chance of being much better than Emmerich's last 2 flicks. I do like the image of Kennedy taking out the White House in revenge for the Kennedy curse.
By nashdude at 8:05 AM ON 09/07/09
Though Hollywood's take on the "last days" is starting to get a little stale, this movie does at least satisfy the eye candy department. I'm actually looking forward to it.
Also, I think that Cusack will do a fine job in his role. I'm NOT a fan of Cusack by any means, but he's got a lot more latitude than folks give him credit for. He's come a LONG way from "Better Off Dead" and those kinds of movies. A number of movies come to mind ("Pushing Tin", for one), but the one that really seals it for me is "1408". I'm a big Stephen King fan anyway, but "1408" was one of the first in a VERY long time to actually give me the willies. And John Cusack, in the role of Mike Enslin, was OUTSTANDING.
Give John-boy a chance. He might just make the end of the world interesting :)
By Uwaine at 9:08 AM ON 09/07/09
Um... The Mayan Calendar does NOT predict the end of the world in 2012.
The calendar simply stops at that point. They didn't make an infinite calendar on their walls. It is the modern doomsayers and new age book pundits who speculated that this meant the world would end.
By Myrridin at 9:10 AM ON 09/07/09
Hey... Better off Dead was a classic... well, kind of.... ok, well it was fun to watch
By badlvillemojo at 9:49 AM ON 09/07/09
Personally I think Cusack is a great actor. if you can't see it then move on instead of making moronic commentary like the bafoons you are.
By dtaylor3670 at 3:02 PM ON 09/07/09
Supposedely, the movie is based in part from the Whitley Streiber novel, 2012 "The war for souls". If so, then this movie will be about an alternate universe that comes together with ours through a novelist's point of view. The novel started out decent, then went downhill faster than any other novel I've read, or tried to read....
By Jake at 12:43 AM ON 09/08/09
Great movie...I am glad that it is not another scifi post apocalyptic movie..but a disaster movie with old school disasters.

I'm with Judi. I'll be in the back with my glowstick ready to scream when his song comes on. Love John Cusack too.
By SheaGlambert at 12:15 PM ON 09/09/09
I'm most excited about Adam Lambert's song!! :-D He's so extraordinarily talented. This is a wonderful way to break him into the business.
By vac at 1:03 PM ON 09/09/09
I am really looking forward to hearing the Adam Lambert song. Will go to the movie just to hear him sing it in a theatre setting. Really impressed by his talent.
By mom4dance at 1:53 PM ON 09/09/09
Congrats to Adam Lambert. What a way to begin! I was looking forward to seeing the movie and now I am really excited to hear the soundtrack even more.
By Cazana at 2:01 PM ON 09/09/09
Tidal wave through the Himalayas is pretty impressive, but the most awesome thing on the poster are the words there at the very bottom. Congrats Adam!
By glambertcraze at 2:10 PM ON 09/09/09
GO Adam - can't wait to hear your amazing voice on the big screen.
By glambert gal at 2:31 PM ON 09/09/09

Can't wait to hear the song sung by the amazing Adam Lambert..Brian May is more than impressed!
By AnninSD at 5:15 PM ON 09/09/09
John Cusack-amazing actor.
A comment to those who think he's not right for role - think Bruce Willis juut after Moonlighting no one thought he'd be an action star OR think in reverse that Robert De Niro would succeed in a comedy?
And Adam Lambert singing the theme song - Yah! Woohoo! It's gonna be great! I can't wait for the film, the soundtrack and Adam 's album maybe the song will also be on Adam's album!
By Sarah at 6:25 PM ON 09/09/09
I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR ADAM'S SONG!
This movie looks awesome too...I really love The Day After Tomorrow...so hopefully this one is as good, or better than that one.
But I'm not gonna lie, I'm gonna see it opening night just because Adam's song is on it. :P
By Jacki at 6:57 PM ON 09/09/09
I can't wait for this movie! Love John Cusack ( a fellow Chicagoan) & I absolutely adore Adam Lambert! Cannot wait for this song to come out, hopefully as a single!
By stellagirl at 12:02 AM ON 09/10/09
I will be seeing this movie just to hear Adam Lambert singing "Time for Miracles".
That's it. I don't care if John Cusack or Kermit the Frog stars in this movie.
I don't care if Amanda Peet gets butt-naked and shakes her ta-ta's until her nipples fly off.
It's all about Adam Lambert, folks.
He is incredible, amazing, and he's going to blow us all away.
By anna at 1:44 AM ON 09/10/09
Going just to hear Adam! I might even watch the movie, lol. Then his first CD drops 11 days later!!!
By ILOVEADAMLAMBERT at 10:48 AM ON 09/10/09
OMG! I'm only going to see this movie for the song...I must admit...when I hear his voice, I'll just jump up and scream.

And John Cusack and Woody Harrelson (sp?) are both amazing actors...
Alright, truth be told?

But hey! Theres still that 30%... :)
By kim at 4:02 AM ON 09/26/09
I love these types of movies and I love John Cusack. If I go to watch this movie and some lunatic starts waving a glowstick in my face and screaming, BECAUSE OF A SONG, that glowstick will need help from a doctor in order to see the light of day again. Just a warning.
By alrightythen at 6:12 AM ON 09/26/09
Ben Affleck would have been AWESOME in the lead role.
Curse you Hollywood dream machine.
For all of those attending the premier/movie just to hear Lambert's song while the end credits role...crazy much?
