Dennis Quaid, who played Gen. Hawk in this summer's hit G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, told us exclusively that he's ready for the sequel. "I'm definitely on board if they do another one," Quaid said in an exclusive interview. "I don't know if they have a script yet, but I'm definitely interested."
Fans may have had some issues with Stephen Sommers' summer blockbuster G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but the hard, cold facts are undeniable: That "real American hero" has raked in almost $300 million this summer, and Joe will absolutely be back for an encore.
SCI FI Wire caught up with Gen. Hawk himself today for his take on Joe's success and the possibilities of a sequel. "[G.I. Joe was] exactly what it was meant to be," Quaid told SCI FI during an exclusive interview. "Stephen Sommers really knows what he's doing, and he really hit a home run with that."
It's unclear whether Quaid has already signed on for a sequel, but he did tell us he's on board when they're ready. You heard it here first, Mr. Sommers.
The veteran actor does have one special request for Gen. Hawk in G.I. Joe 2. "I want to get out of the pit," says Quaid. "I want to ride a horse and shoot a gun. I want a horse with an accelerator suit."

That matters? It certainly didn't matter for the first movie.

I don't think scripts ever matter. Lots of, if not most, actors say they won't do film x unless it has a good script, but film x rolls along and it has an utterly awful script and the actor is in it anyway.

I liked the GIJOE movie. It was a goofy summer blockbuster flick. I found it entertaining, if nothing else.

Well, G.I. Joe was much better than Transfomers 2, so it was a success in my book. I'm looking forward to seeing if the sequel can do better (somehow), and I'm definitely on the "General Hawk kicking ass and taking names" bandwagon.

Yo Joe! I loved Rise of Cobra and I want a sequel! And more of General Hawk leading the charge (and less of Ripcord) would be more than fine by me!

@Cris
Well said.......
His condition should have been that he will get the opportunity to ACT in this one. Also that Duke be recast with a real actor.

Loved the first movie. Not the best movie ever or anything, but it had great action and it was very fun, so in my mind, its a win. However, it was really predictable and seemed to drag on in some parts. I hope the next one is a bit shorter and faster paced...and they need to get that man a horse with an accelerator suit!

Ah great! Another chance to ruin more rolls of film! I think I had more fun having my vasectomy.

The mixed reaction to this particular movie kills me. I liked GI Joe, took it as simple, splashy, entertainment, nothing more. The hate some people have for this movie doesn't make sense to me. It's a live action cartoon! Not Platoon. Even if they had made it like Platoon people then would have complained it was too heavy-handed for the kids. Actually, the biggest problem with the movie was the lack of General Hawk. Having Dennis Quaid as General Hawk in the thick of the action, would have made it more exciting. Taking him out as they did, was a bad call. I hope in the next one, we get to see General Hawk strut his stuff. That would be cool. Frankly, it seems the negative reactions stem more from a personal issue against Stephen Sommers, than the film itself. Maybe on the sequel Sommers should partner up with Len Wiseman and have him direct. Then maybe people won't be so uptight. Which is too bad. Somers hasn't done anything wrong, not really. So he likes making popcorn movies, what is wrong with that? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

i didn't really have any expectations of G.I.Joe.but i really liked it.it was way better than transformers 2.at least G.I.Joe tried to tell a story that made some kind of sense.and it gave back story on the characters.transformers 2 was a CGI circle jerk.i'd like to see a second G.I Joe

I actually have to say... I went into watching this movie and expected something absolutely terrible.
I was thinking 'Warlock' type movie... and frankly... I thought it was ok.
Yeah, please axe the 'accelerator suits' and any Wayans brother just dumbs the thing down... but as for the rest... I thought it was ok.
I would've liked something spectacular... but everyone does have to remember... we're talking about source material that comes from a cartoon.
So expectations can't really be that high.
Hope the story is more cohesive for part two and we HAVE TO, HAVE TO have Flint, Lady J, Mainframe, Shipwreck, and or the Twins (either the cobra twins or zartan's cousin twins)

It was a good flick. No Terminator Salvation or anything, but still an enjoyable movie. Some you guy are just to darn critical...

It was exactly what it was supposed to be... over-the-top explody fun, which it was. If you went in expecting anything more than that, you were in the wrong theater.
However...
Fix Cobra Commander's mask and drop all the "family" connections or I won't see the second one.

@ Eldon...I think we're all glad you had the vasectomy...I thought the film was fun. Not everything coming from Hollywood has to be "Dark and Serious". It's not going to win any awards, but lets not go there anyway.

Really loved gi goe rise of cobra.Want another sequel.I think it is Stephen Sommers the one only one director ,most suitable to direct the next sequel. It will be a shame to the entire hollywood if paramount pictures decides any another guy other than Mr.Sommers(in fear of some of the waste critics(most probably anonymous and unauthenticated critics) attacks on him by both personally and other means) to direct it since he had gave them a box office blockbuster and thereby a big profit .I don't think the hidden critics's poisonous intentions will be accepted by the film lovers.I think the entire hollywood people should stand behind him in this case since this type of personnel criticism cannot be appreciated by any means.Eldon....Glad to see that you had the vasectomy.Better you don't watch any of the films. We (gi goe fans) don't agree with you .Good disappointment days and Bad luck Eldon!!
