First look at Robert Rodriguez's bloody, violent Predators

First look at Robert Rodriguez\'s bloody, violent \<i\>Predators\<\/i\>
We're as interested as you are in any info about the plot of next summer's Robert Rodriguez-scripted Predators reboot. Today we got some tidbits from our friends at the Latino Review, who got a chance to read a 90-page script dated July 12, 2009 and shared some of that insider info with the rest of us.
The draft is a "bloody, violent, Hard-R script" that pits a team of seven kidnapped humans against Predators on the aliens' home planet. Reportedly, the team of seven are:
  • Royce, a Steve McQueen type
  • Cuchillo, a Mexican enforcer for a drug cartel who has twin uzis strapped to his back
  • Nikolai, a bear of a Russian armed with a four-barrel gas-powered rotary machine gun
  • Isabelle, a French woman armed with a sniper rifle
  • Stans, a San Quentin prisoner with a shaved head, armed with a prison-made knife
  • Mombasa, an African member of the Sierra Leone death squad
  • Hanzo, a Yakuza enforcer
  • Edwin, an unassuming man who was formerly on the FBI's most-wanted list.
We can't want to see them in action on the screen next year, but until then, check out Latino Review for more details.

is it me, or does this sound more like the synopsis for a really bad video game?

By classy at 5:27 PM ON 09/28/09

heres a tip, stopy making predator movies about the dam humans.. we dont care, show more predators for god sakes

By evilseabass at 5:33 PM ON 09/28/09

This team of seven has eight people on it. It now qualifies as science fiction!

This team of seven has eight people on it. It definately qualifies as "science fiction"!

Bad producer! Bad producer! No bonus for you!

By PhogoX at 6:05 PM ON 09/28/09

Let me guess... at least one human wins.

By darfnoogie at 6:12 PM ON 09/28/09

And it will almost certainly be the unassuming one!

By archangel at 6:28 PM ON 09/28/09

I am soooo sick of hearing about REBOOTS!!! I don't want to see the same movies over and over again...come up with something original! What's next...a reboot of Blade Runner and 2001? Stop trying to fix movies that already work and are legends! Stop trying to make stupid movies over again!

By HD at 6:52 PM ON 09/28/09

@archangel

I'm with you 100%. While in Europe and the rest of the world interesting and creative new movies are being made, here in North America we're drowning in this abyss of dead creativity. Nothing new is created anymore. Not only in movies, but in music as well.

Please stop this rubbish and gives us something new.

By wildbuf at 6:54 PM ON 09/28/09

Anyone want to start guessing the order in which they die?

By MSgt at 7:08 PM ON 09/28/09

Wildbuf, they all might as well die now, because after reading the information above the entire movie is already dead as far as I'm concerned. I predict it will tank.

By Michael at 7:38 PM ON 09/28/09

Reboot: (transitive verb) to kick again.

Keep kickin' those dead horses, Hollywood. Maybe they'll come to life again someday.

By predatorlove at 7:48 PM ON 09/28/09

Please don't use the formula of "it will come down to one human and one predator who become friends and fight together against alien adversity"

Look to the comics for original ideas, don't just think them up and hope they work.

By Tom Black at 8:46 PM ON 09/28/09

Isn't one of the team a chick with a gun for a leg?

By David at 8:51 PM ON 09/28/09

I have to admit that sounds chock full of asskickery.

Reboots don't bother me if they are good.

Batman Begins was good.

I weep for the Bad Lieutenant reboot with the atrocious Nic Cage though...

By Invisigoth at 9:03 PM ON 09/28/09

This isn't a reboot; it's a sequel. Also, Hollywood will stop making unoriginal films when people stop going to see them.

By mykl at 9:29 PM ON 09/28/09

Rodriguez justget back to working on “Sin City 2” and “Sin CIty 3” that is all people care about unless you are going to more “Grindhouse” movies too.

By Smiller at 9:58 PM ON 09/28/09

Yay! Another pile of steaming turd coming our way for Hollywood to make monies.

By redshirt at 10:37 PM ON 09/28/09

Wow, that is certainly a racially diverse group of humans they lined up. Are you sure the movie isn't set in the U.N.?

By goddogx at 11:38 PM ON 09/28/09

i would love to see a list of "in Europe and the rest of the world interesting and creative new movies are being made" :)

By black jesus at 11:44 PM ON 09/28/09

Why are they even calling this a reboot. It could just be a predator movie just like the others.

By Gary at 12:28 AM ON 09/29/09

It looks like a line up from a Benetton catalogue. Nearly alll the nationalities are there....... This movie is gonna suck.....why can't they thing of something different. Royce "the steve mc queen" type and the french woman "Isabelle" will be the remaining survivors. Nikolai will have a one on one with a Predator, a la Billy from the original. It's so predictable.............

By jd at 12:53 AM ON 09/29/09

R. Rodriguez, much like Tarantino, peaked with his first film. The are both wash outs. They have the emotional weight of a bag of air. Target audience : mindless teens & drunk college kids. I will pretend that "El Mariachi" and "Reservoir Dogs" were their only films before they sadly passed away. They are dead to me.

By iwan suli at 3:33 AM ON 09/29/09

Haha, I bet the latino drug lord enforcer is played by Danny Trejo...

By chris at 4:14 AM ON 09/29/09

Well, it's about time they made this plot. I've been mulling it over in my head since the first one came out. Who do you think is going to be the main character? Who do you think is going to die first? Who will outlive everyone else and escape beck to earth? Then mess up and land on the Aliens home planet?

By Akuma63 at 4:46 AM ON 09/29/09

If you hate reboots so much why do you read about them?

If you can do a better job, then stop complaining and make a better or original film.

By hrninja at 8:53 AM ON 09/29/09

It sounds like "Predator" meets "Con Air". Wow. This thing is looking bad.

By trueman832 at 9:41 AM ON 09/29/09

We need fewer reboots and more versus movies... Predator vs. Star Trek.... Aliens vs. Sex and the City... Freddy vs. Forrest Gump... Jason vs. Hanna Montana... I'd pay to see any of those for sure!

By theApocalypse at 10:17 AM ON 09/29/09

First of all, movies have been being remade since movies started being made.

Second, the only real problem with movies that deal with a similar subject are the fanboys who complain at every turn about how "x doesn't make sense and y would never talk to z". It is a story. The problem with movies like this is the general lack of a decent story, usually coupled with terrible pacing.

Rodriguez is good at both of those things, so the likelyhood of this movie actually sucking is pretty damn slim.

And lastly. PREDATORS HUNT WARRIORS. Established in the very first movie, that predators travel around looking for a challenge. So the diverse list of characters and their initial back stories MAKES PERFECT SENSE in terms of what this species would be doing with a bunch of humans. The likelyhood that they would make the trip here for one or two random white guys is pretty slim.

Everyday somebody is attacking some reboot or reimagined movies or new series. Why not just avoid going to see then or avoid them by NOT watching them. If they fail like the most recent Terminator movie did eventually the various studios will stop losing money making them. The TRUTH is to do something entirely new requires so much additional money to promote and introduce the NEW concept that the risk of failure is too great and studios will not take it. It takes millions to make a new movie and then additional millions to advertise it. Unknown titles take many millions more to promote than to just add a new story to an existing franchise.

Also new generations of new viewers are coming into the market every year so a reboot of known properties are still better than entirely new franchises. Stories that were told when I was young would be new to an entire generation of new viewers. A good example is the new TREK movie that may have brought new life to a very old story.

If you demand new stories, then write a few and get them made into movies or new TV series until then studios will work with what they already own and have promoted in the past.

8 humans on the predator homeworld? Yeah of course one of them will win! Let's all assume retarded things months/years before the movie even comes out. "show more predators for god sakes" you have to be pretty dumb, or blind, considering the fact it stated in the article it would be set ON THEIR HOMEWORLD. How can they not have tons of predators? Stop failing.

By Nyarlathotep at 4:46 PM ON 09/29/09

Sounds shite, if they had the balls they'd make it about the Predators and have no fracking humans in it at all..but then I forget sci-fi fans are human/character/drama obssessed morons these days.

A film only about predators would be so much better and more interesting. A huge shame.

By REBOOT at 8:54 PM ON 09/29/09

A reboot would be fine because I love predator so much but why not just make it a sequel. And after AVP 2 which was left open there is plenty of room to continue the story even if "aliens" are not in it.

By GQ at 7:30 AM ON 10/01/09

The Russian bear will die first. Bears always die first in movies. :(

By darthholland at 6:04 PM ON 10/07/09

Dont worry folks, I have alot of original ideas and as soon as I am done with film school, I intend to single handedly save the art of american science fiction. A note to the guys here at syfy, I thought your rebranding was to better promote original franchises, so why are all your shows remakes and spin-offs, (and no, sanctuary isnt what I'd call original by any means)? I got a whole franchisable universe perfect to launch multiple, unrelated series, movies and mini-series that all share a common background. You guys need me, if only you knew it
