Guess I should'nt have expected anything too close to the book

By Twobyfore at 6:18 PM ON 09/28/09

The first adaption also on SyFy a few years ago stuck a little closer to the source material.. this looks all over the place..

By darfnoogie at 6:19 PM ON 09/28/09

Wow, I didn't know just because they changed their name that they would start remaking their own stuff! How original.

By dmwalling at 6:21 PM ON 09/28/09

Didn't Sci-Fi already make this movie? Say, in 2003 staring Brad Johnson as astronaut Jeff Hale, with Xena's Kevin Smith as bad guy Valdemar and Cameron Daddo as Samuel L. Clemens? Didn't work very well then.

By asfm at 6:46 PM ON 09/28/09

I wish Tahmoh Penikett would stop being in things. I really hate his face. I don't mean that in a cruel way or anything... I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I can't stand the shape of his face.

It's just so very, very strange.

By hermy at 6:51 PM ON 09/28/09

why this again.why not the lovers,a women a day or dare. philip Jose farmer has written some really good books.that would make some good stand alone movies.

By ecgordon at 7:16 PM ON 09/28/09

Farmer disavowed the original production, and now that he is gone you think you can trash his memory even more? Shame on you Sci-Fi (I refuse to type your new bastardized name).

By wrack at 7:55 PM ON 09/28/09

That's the way, ec. Hammer them. They think by attaching a famous name or title to their schlocky productions it gives them some sort of credibility. Come on SF, your original shows are way better than the unwatchable adaptions. Or better yet, hire some of the HBO or Showtime writers and directors.

By Grandma4 at 7:56 PM ON 09/28/09

Geesh, Sir Richard Francis Burton the real main character of the book is not in either the movie or TV series.

By Omen at 8:06 PM ON 09/28/09

I'll catch it on the 3rd remake.

By gorehound696 at 8:18 PM ON 09/28/09

I am not going to watch this movie because it has no wrestling in it !!!!

By Olz at 8:29 PM ON 09/28/09

What a waste of time, resources, and potential. Seriously why take a brilliant concept and series, and then just piss on it.

By Bluesman at 9:10 PM ON 09/28/09

Hmm, hot chick with a Katana works for even though she's holding it wrong.

By shockologist at 9:41 PM ON 09/28/09

If you are going to ignore most of the source material anyway, why not just go with Riverworld: The Series. At least then you'ld be able to force people from all SF series to make guest spots every week. Oddly I think Riverworld would be awesome as an MMO

By Praetor Shinzon II at 10:12 PM ON 09/28/09

I don't know what reality you people come from or lack thereof, but film and books are 2 different mediums. If you want it exactly like the book - READ THE BOOK! You can never and should never expect Movies or TV to 'just like the book'. If it's close, be thankful, if it's different, just enjoy it. Besides, most people have never read most science fiction so it's all new to them and to me most of the time. Get over it.

By E.S.Holmans at 10:22 PM ON 09/28/09

Read the *books*, I think you meant to say. Fabulous!

By Udi at 10:29 PM ON 09/28/09

Looks promising. The book series is one of my favorite of all time - utterly amazing.

The pilot for the previous series was not bad, yet it wasn't picked.

This one looks good... though I don't like the changes they've made (some are already apparent in the trailer). Guess I'll have to wait and see - really waiting :)

By petersmoney at 11:17 PM ON 09/28/09

I thought the books had such a great premise but the resolution was in book 4(?) was lame. At the same time when each of the books came out I read it in one seating.
This could be much bigger than the books.....

By Alhazred at 12:48 AM ON 09/29/09

Why are they doing this? It just seems stupid remaking something they've already done. i could see if it was another network.

By Mandy at 1:25 AM ON 09/29/09

I think it's a back door pilot. They're trying to get it made into a series after the 'success' of this.

Nice try though Mr. Wolfe... I'd rather watch your Dresden Files reruns. At least that was compelling.

By Ryan at 2:18 AM ON 09/29/09

Doesn't look like my thing. But hey, with Dollhouse ratings what they are if this does get made into a TV show, Tahmoh may well be available. lol

By Jon at 4:13 AM ON 09/29/09

What's Jacko doing there? I know that he died and all, but still.... (I am joking btw)

By oneeye at 7:23 AM ON 09/29/09

At least its scifi and not some dumb reality show people like so much these days

By Jeff at 7:34 AM ON 09/29/09

Oh well, since I never read RIVERWORLD, this is all new to me. I'll probably tape it so I can zip through the commercials.

By Anachronite at 9:37 AM ON 09/29/09

Praetor Shinzon II, I ALWAYS expect the film to be like the book. But unfortunately hollywood always tries to trick it up instead of giving us what we want, 'THE AUTHOR'S TRUE VISION ON SCREEN". It is unbelievable how Hollywood cannot understand that.

By Jaames at 11:12 AM ON 09/29/09

I have never read the Riverworld Series, so whether it sticks to the source material or not, the trailer looks pretty good to me.

By McTex at 1:21 PM ON 09/29/09

Gosh some of you scifi nerds are such do^chebags.

This looks halfway decent - I think I'll check it out...

By Zedek at 2:09 PM ON 09/29/09

Here's an idea ... why not pick up where the last miniseries left off and include material from the next book.

By Mandy at 6:36 PM ON 09/29/09

I do like Peter Wingfield but out of Scifi's fantasies that should have continued and were loosely based on books, I'd rather watch Dresden Files.

By Abe at 10:56 PM ON 09/29/09

Liked the series . . . til the end. Farmer was GREAT at an anticlimatic finish. Hopefully this will be more interesting.

By bladerunner101 at 3:15 AM ON 09/30/09

i was intrigued initially by the content but it was very anti climatic build ships get to end of the river some how and find .. what? that this was another chance to do ur life over in a aquarium till u got it right? most veiwers will be a bit upset if they try this it wont last long at all . syfy u need to pass on this .

By retiredat44 at 8:36 AM ON 09/30/09

I am looking forward to this show..

By svrkevi at 11:49 AM ON 09/30/09

Looks cool........and yeah this blog is d-bag central

By BabblingBro at 7:55 PM ON 09/30/09

This looks good, from someone who doesn't know anything about the book and hasn't seen the other adaptations of this story

By joesocwork at 9:55 PM ON 09/30/09

I can't tell anything about what the movie will be about from the trailer. Action, mystery, and fantasy. Ok.

By noyb at 7:06 AM ON 10/04/09

i wonder if we will will see jeff donhams pupper ahmed the undead terrorist befor he blew himself up or the lady that went splat that kill all of them in the 1st place

By Deltigar at 7:33 PM ON 10/28/09

Meh. The boks had a perfect opening, 40 years on the river in the second river boat. Plenty of room for endless adventures. So why add horses? Why bring their clothes? Where is Sir Richard Burton? Oh yea, we Americans are too friggen stoopid to know the two Richard Burtons apart.

By Loga at 3:23 PM ON 11/09/09

oh no not again...
Look, I understand that the books were not written based on Lost or 24 and therefore not instantly saleable to the networks, but please please stop trashing my favourite books with these pale and lifeless imitations.
The thing about the original books is they were so different.
Why should I care about the misadventures of some largely forgotten victorian explorer in the afterlife? Well maybe a really good adaptation might make me interested instead of going for the "he died last last tuesday, therefore you can now relate to him" option.
Apart from anything else, I'd really like any adaptation to USE the cover story of the ethicals in the books to wind up the audience.
As in we know that there were not major airlines using airships to transport freight post 1983, and we the audience know that anyone making claims about historical events past that date is lying and an agent of the ethicals... but the characters living on the riverworld do not.
