Here's how you can appear in HBO's A Game of Thrones

Here\'s how you can appear in HBO\'s \<em\>A Game of Thrones\<\/em\>

Lena Headey. Sean Bean. Peter Dinklage. They've all been cast in HBO's A Game of Thrones pilot, an adaptation of the fantasy novel by George R.R. Martin.

Now add to that list ... you.

"Ever since HBO first took out an option on A Game of Thrones—even before we got an actual production order—I've been getting emails from readers who desperately wanted to be a part of the production," Martin wrote today on his blog. "'I'll do anything!' some of you have written. ((Really, don't say stuff like that. Really. Don't.)) Well, now's your chance. The call has gone out for extras."

If you're male (Check!), between the ages of 16 and 60 (Ditto!), can be in Northern Ireland in the last week of October and first two weeks of November (I could do that!) and can ride a horse (Oh, well ... ), hurry over to read the casting agency's urgent call.

Good luck!

Man these books were hard to read. There were like 1000 characters and most were dead by the end of each book. So you had to learn all new characters for the next book.

Most. Anticipated. Show. Ever.

@rucknrun Might I suggest a different fantasy author. Try Dr. Suess.

Much simpler. Little words and pretty pictures too!.

I loved the Sword of Truth books I figured I would like these too. I don't really like my reading to be so painful. I made it through 3 of the books though.

@TheAngryMob

Did you read them?

By Lordmoon at 12:37 PM ON 10/01/09

@Drewthedevil

If the show does well enough (and I really hope it does) the third book will definitely need women when Wildlings go on the march.

I can't wait for this to premier!

It would be nice if he could concentrate of finishing his novels. How many years has it been since one was released, yet he is always increasing the number of books in the series.

I don't really like supporting a writer who puts his books last.

@rucknrun

I like the series for the reasons you don’t; It reads more true to life where just because you’re a lord, a king, or a young child doesn’t mean that you’ll be spared from life’s burdens and pain. The fact that you don’t know whether a character will live or die is very appealing to me.

@JS

While I, too, eagerly await more books in the series, I am not going to expect an author to stop all other projects and *force* a book out. I enjoy the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series and want it to remain something special for the reader and , I hope, the author.

Neil Gaiman actually addressed this very topic on his blog back in May:
http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2009/05/entitlement-issues.html
I think he did a pretty good job of laying out why we should try not to turn our hunger for another book into scorn for the author who is not providing it on the timetable we desire.

Tanek - I just read Neil's blog and I have to say that I completely disagree with him. While I would never call anybody my b*tch, who does a writer work for other than his audience/readers.

I don't "hate" or "scorn" the author, I just don't want to support one (by buying his novels or other products) who has no concern for his audience.

I have always wanted to read his books, but I don't want to start something that may never be finished. I am sure that there are many who have heard great things about the books, but don't read them for the same reason.

I do not think a writer works for his or her readers any more than I work for you because you may happen to purchase a product from the retailer that employs me. While there is a relationship there in that without any readers the author is unlikely to remain employed, taking a long time to write a series does not, to me, indicate a lack of concern for an audience.

As for scorn, that may just be a distinction between which side of the line you put it on. To me, you are very close to, if not in, the outlying regions of scorn. But I don't know you or how you map out the districts of that particular county for yourself.

That said, you are of course free to support or not support any author or business you desire. And I do understand your fear of starting to read something that may never have an ending (heck, I did not even *glance* at the over-laden Wheel of Time shelf in the bookstore for fear I would not have time to read another book ever again if I were to start it and want to finish the series before finishing my natural lifespan). So I will hope for the both of us that we see more about the book series in the near future.
