The makers of Sorority Row knew that nudity was a staple of the slasher movie genre. While the leads of the film did not wish to bare all, or even some, they still looked out for the fans. Leah Pipes plays Theta Pi queen bee Jessica, and she makes an underclassman drop her towel just to assert her own authority.
"I'm all for showing boobies to the audience," Pipes joked in an exclusive interview on Aug. 30 in Beverly Hills, Calif. "I didn't show my own because, honestly, they're AAs and people would leave the theater. So we had to hire other women with beautiful breasts, and I made them take their clothes off. For you, for all of you. So you're welcome."
For teenage boys growing up in the '80s, horror movies were the prime place to get a T&A fix. Sorority Row director Stewart Hendler wanted to pay homage to the tradition without exploiting his actors.
"Certainly, making an R-rated horror movie, you have that expectation," Hendler said in a separate group interview. "You want to deliver to your audience, hopefully do that in a way that's remotely tasteful and equal-opportunity. There are a lot of shirtless dudes running around. We try to give something for everyone."
Jamie Chung had two scenes that could have crossed the line. In a Jacuzzi scene, strategically placed bubbles hide her. And even if the wind blew the bubbles away, Chung was covered.
"I was not naked," Chung said in a separate group interview. "I was wearing a nude [body suit] underneath. My, my, the tricks we can do with movies."
In a shower scene, the camera films Chung from behind, and above the waist. She credited Hendler with respecting her boundaries. "They were very understanding," Chung continued. "The one thing that Stewart and the producers were fantastic about was 'If you're not comfortable with this, you don't have to do it.' If it's a little tease and I'm covered, it's fine. [My character] Claire is a little risqué."
So viewers to Sorority Row will be treated to background extras and bit players disrobing instead. However, Chung would not rule out nudity in the future. "There's always room for negotiation, but if it doesn't really help with my character and it's not really necessary, no, I'll pass," she said. "Or, like the scene from Monster's Ball or Monster that requires nudity but really, oh God, it's just open and raw and it's appropriate for that character and tells a story, then absolutely. But if it doesn't call for it ... "
Hendler's mission with Sorority Row was to have fun with the sorority culture and sorority movie genre. Even without nudity in some scenes, he played with popular images of sorority houses.
"We wanted to make sure that there was enough pillow fighting for people," Hendler said.
Sorority Row opens Sept. 11.

Lame, either drop the towel or star in a romance film. Can anyone tell me why Rumor Willis is in this? She looks like she has a mild form a Down syndrome. Butt ugly.

You stay classy, MM-dude.

I remember Helen Mirren in 60 Minutes saying that nudity goes along with acting.
Doubt any of this bunch will reach her level.
By bill bixby jr. at 2:53 PM ON 09/02/09
won't see this now.

If not for nepotism, there would be no way Rumor Willis would even be looked at by any casting director. She looks like the worst parts of her parents' DNA were tossed into a blender and poured onto her face. She also has horrible knees. Ugh.
As for the nudity, I guess these respectful young actresses just want to reveal their hidden assets in "leaked" cellphone pics shot in their bathrooms and when they're stepping out of limos with their gowns hiked up to their thighs and no underwear on.

Films are so tame now, it sucks. Everything is PG13 or mild R today, which makes it G rated in the 1980's MPAA scheme.
I loved the unnecessary blood, boobs, and even the occasional 'bush' of the 80's films.
School girl shower scenes are classic.

WTF- what is the point? These chicks can't act. There's a long heritage of B-movie chix who drop trou. They should relax, they'll make a pension living on the nerd convention circuit when their b()()bs drop.

why would anyone want to see this piece of krap anyways ? It is beyond me why any of you would even pay to see even more remakes as these type of films only feed the greed of hollywood and should all be boycotted.
now there are those who say a remake is good cause the original sucked well i say if they do not get it right first then move on and do something new.
with all the gear and money they have getting it wrong is a crock of BS.
and you guys should never ever go to a PG or PG13 film you damn well know ought to be R like seeing AVP1 as PG13 or T4 as PG13.the more folks who do this the more money hollywood makes and soon all flicks are kiddie flicks until you see the UNRATD DVD.
By smegforbrain at 6:04 PM ON 09/02/09
Eh, T&A wasn't reason enough to pay to see this movie anyways.
Now there's no bloody reason to see at all.

Why is this film even featured here?
By Matt at 9:10 PM ON 09/02/09
Because this website covers the horror genre in addition to sci-fi/fantasy material?

So we got a bunch of girls who dont really have an impressive resume, theyre nothing more then C class stars, good for their looks and thats about it. And they tell us that whatever nudity you see, is a shot of another woman, or a naked suit........wow, great so we got another I know what you did last summer movie with college chicks played by a bunch of girls who want to show the world they have class and they're more then just a pretty face....yea like if anybody watches this movie theyre not going to care about the charcters backstories or anything. Theyre just there to see how they look and how they die.....

Truthfully, I don't bother with the horror/ scream / slasher genre at all any more, because they have become a poor excuse for trying to tell a story (poorly I might add), wrapped up in some lame shots of quick breast flashing or seduction. All of this is done, of course, for the effect of titilating fans (pun intended) into seeing the movie, just to see what new scream queen will be bared in the film's sacrificial nudity.
The real greats made the best of these movies in the 40's and 50's, and with very little, if any, nudity. All of the producers and directors of today are not telling the stories well, just wrapping them up in pretty women for the masses. - KH

I hope that you're not referring to: "The Wasp Woman", 'Robot Monster", "Bride of the Monster" and " Attack of the Giant Leeches" as some examples?

Sure it's nice to see naked hot chicks in a movie, but when is Hollywood gonna understand nudity doesn't make a horror film the suspense and intensity of the scene is what drives that adrenaline rush. So far only 1 remake horror film has actually passed that test.... Friday the 13th I mean nothing beats that part where Jason ran after that chick swung his machete in the air coming down on the camera then boom screen goes black, that I can say was pretty intense.
Since these days its impossible to scare your audience (unless they are too young to watch the movie or just plain wimps) they need to make the scenes real engaging ya know. Just throw everything you can at the character and keep pushing it
Though recently I've seen quite a few films cheat at the end with this personality disorder which is beginning to become overrated.... High Tension, Shrooms, Frayed just settle down on that crap and hit us with engaging nonstop axe flying, pyscho running, sneak up on your back type stuff. And most importantly don't make the ending so predictable, if you have to, let the bad guys win so your audience demands a sequel.
Anyways Sorority Row I already know what this movie is gonna be like without seeing it. a dozen girls whinning and crying. Then some dumb skinny weak bimbo is gonna tough up at the end and beat the ass of the 10 foot tall 300 lb psycho just like Alice did with Nemesis in RE: Apocalypse. "Oh because we want strong women in our movies".... well ya know that's fine, but it's gonna be totally weak if the psycho's 50x her size and she's kicking his ass with no questions asked.
Oh and by the way I sure hope these girls aren't continuously screaming theirs heads off and whinning like the main girl in that movie Quarantine did. Wow she was figgin annoying and got on my nerves. I swear if I was in that building with her and she started that crap I'd make sure I separate from her and let her attract the horde to her while I'm SILENTLY moving about for an escape route.
"OH MY GOSH I BETTER SCREAM MORE AND LOUDER MAYBE THEN THE PSYCHOS AND ZOMBIES WILL RUN AWAY FROM ME."
I blame the director not the actor.
