Is a Sherlock Holmes sequel already developing with Brad Pitt?

Is a \<i\>Sherlock Holmes\<\/i\> sequel already developing with Brad Pitt?

Robert Downey Jr.'s new take on Sherlock Holmes doesn't hit theaters until Christmas, but Warner Brothers is already developing a sequel featuring none other than Brad Pitt as the villain, The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz blog reports:

The studio is poised to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its Justice League: Mortal tentpole, to pen a draft of the new tale. Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty in the new pic, say people familiar with the project, though there is no deal in place for him to take the part.

The upcoming first Holmes is already giving Arthur Conan Doyle purists fits, as it appears to transform the famous detective into an action hero, with a comely sidekick in the form of doughty Rachel McAdams.

Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes, which stars Downey as the title character, Jude Law as Watson and McAdams as Irene Adler. They are expected to return for a sequel, should one develop.

Pitt as Moriarty?
No. Someone with more weight & sinister appeal.
And not handsome.
Has to be able to blend in while being a master of disguise.
Kevin Spacey.

I believe that Johnny Depp would make a better Moriarty than Brad Pitt.

'Robert Downey Jr.'s new take on Sherlock Holmes'? Surely it is Guy Ritchie's new take on Sherlock Holmes (along with the script writers? Downey acts the part like he's told to, very well I'm sure.

I owe the novels a read to be certain, but the reason I'm interested in the movie is entirely due to Robert Downey Jr.

Pitt has shown that he can be whatever he needs to be for a role. I think that he could make it great.

Omen: Great call on Kevin Spacey as Moriarty. I can think of no one more suited to the role.

I hope Robert Downey Jr. manages to carry off his part as SH or the whole thing may be academic.

I think Pitt would be an excellent Moriarty, if Moriarty is supposed to basically be a complete foil to Holmes. Should make a for a great fight scene over Reisenbach Falls.

Pitt's also got a good history with Guy Richie. I get the sense he'll do anything for that director.

Ok Guy Ritchie and Robert Downing jr made this movie based on the Image Comic that is authorized by the Doyle Estate.

This is based on a comic series using Doyle's creations not the novels.

There is only one true actor of Sherlock Holmes, his name was Jeremy Brett.

@imagica

Amen to that ...

Pitt still gets under-rated I think he'd do very well

I think Gary Oldman would be an ideal choice for Moriarity. He has the range, chops, presence and disguise-ability to pull it off. Check out his roles in Harry potter, Dark Knight, 13th Warrior, 5th Element and Dracula

Okay, children. Oldtimer here. Just as you think Sean Connery for James Bond, the Name Basil Rathbone is the name that you should think when you say Sherlock Holmes. As for using Brad Pitt ... not a good fit. Someone like Kevin Spacey... with his dark looks... would fit the bill.

Mr. Depp would indeed do very well as Moriarity. How about someone a little older looking like Liam Neeson, He does a good bad guy. I wish Heath was still with us.
