Too much of a good thing?
Summit Entertainment is reportedly mulling the idea of splitting the fourth and final book of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, into two movies to finish out the franchise.
Is this good for fans? If you love Twilight, you'd presumably get more of what you want.
Or is this part a trend by studios to cash in on their hot properties? (Warner splitting the last Harry Potter, book, the Deathly Hallows, into two films and New Line/Warner splitting The Hobbit into two and maybe even three.)
And is there really enough story in Breaking Dawn to warrant two films, or will a fifth one just seem like so much padding?
The good news—at least if you were a fan of the first Twilight movie—is that the studio will keep that movie's screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg, on for all installments, according to a report on E! Online:
Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will definitely be finishing what she started when it comes to adapting the fourth and final book of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn. Deep Twi tells us that, although it won't officially be confirmed for a while, Melissa is tapped to finish out the films. ...
Like we assured all Twi-fans last month, the entire crew—Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, etc.—will also be back to grace the big screen for the fourth time, too.
Summit hasn't made up its mind yet about whether to split Breaking Dawn. One complicating factor: If they do a fifth movie, then someone other than Rosenberg would have to write it.
But if you care about Twilight and can't bear to wait for the final resolution of the series ... or if you can't get enough Edward-Bella-Jacob and would simply die for a fifth movie ... well, here's your chance to let them know!

I don't know about everyone else...but I'm convinced that last book is unfilmable whether it is split two parts or not. Unless they want it to be extremely dark/terrifying or incredibly corny/unintentionally humorous.

In all honesty, as someone who is a big fan of the books and the Twilight movie, I have to say that I do not think there is enough to put in two movies. Anyone who has read Breaking Dawn must have felt like "OMG when will she get to the battle" through the entire second half of the book. The waiting for something to happen was interminable, but I stuck it out just to have a "discussion"..seriously..that was it. The whole premise of her pregnancy and the child was not only creepy but I felt unnecessary to the story. The movies would be better served by ending with the marriage/turning and a happy ending at the end of the thrid movie.

I actually do not agree with either of the above comments. Breaking Dawn is a very long book, and I always thought that it would be best served if it was split up into 2 movies. Anyone who has read it know EXACTLY where the first movie should end--what a cliffhanger that would be! Breaking Dawnis a great ending to the strory--it is my 2nd favoriate of the 4 books, just behind Twilight. To me, New Moon and Eclipse were just fillers until the exciting ending where we, and Bella, get everything that we want!

what i'm afraid of if they split it into two movies, is they'll spend way too much time on one part of the book, much more time than was taken in the book, Therefore prolonging it and adding too much padding. I didn't personally enjoy Breaking Dawn as much as the other books in the series but it deserves its own movie, i'm just not sure it needs two.

I agree w/ the first comment...but I'll enjoy the laughter!

Although Breaking Dawn is a very long book, A LOT of that is from internal dialogue. Looking at the actual external action, I'm not sure there's enough for 4-5 hours. For example, the entire Jacob section is a great read getting into his head, but screen time might only be a half hour max.

God, please NO!!!!!! Our teenaged girls are stupid enough as it is. Please don't drive their IQs any lower.

I think making Breaking Dawn into 2 movies would definitely make it boring. What seems to add length to the book is Jacobs Book/perspective. I am quite sure all of the elements in Breaking Dawn would happen at a faster pace on film. What made the book so long is the fact that (in my opinion) Meyer was trying to give a full view of what was going on. You can get Jacob's perspective, as well as Bella's, all in one film. 2 films is unnecessary. I'm quite sure they will tweek and twirk scenes to make them fit, just like they did Twilight.

I definitely think 2 movies are due with the last book. Please don't let Harry Potter, etc. have all the "bells and whistles" when Twilight deserves a two movie end!!!

First I would like to say im team Edward. But I still believe that are good friend Jacob Black deserves his happy ending as well. So one movie or two he should still get his happily ever after. He’s been a good sport and there at the end he kinda got dragged thought the dirt, and still never got his physical relationship. Pore Jake...I think It would be amazing if the director got with Stephan M. (So that way it has the same magic to it.) And came up with a place in Breaking Dawn where Jacob and Ranesmee are the same age or close to it. So we get to see Jacobs love and happens. There could be to movies and I think they would be good if done right and if they for the most part stuck to the book. Any way back to the point Movie 1. Could consist of this: Breaking Dawn the book we see tough Jacob’s eyes a lot. So in the movie it could show both Bella’s and Jacob’s story. Jake’s depression and every thing he’s put thought, the pack, where he goes when he runs away, him helping Edward, the parallel parking haha just every thing. Also the wading, the honeymoon, show how torn Edward is about Bella “dying”, how Rosily protects Bella’s birth, then end that movie with Bella’s birth. Movie 2 could show: bells new body, how she cant hold her own baby, her first hunt, there little story book house, how charily still wants to be in her life. And the Voltaire being told about Ranesmee. Alice leaving. show where she goes. Them gathering witnesses. All the new wolfs When every meets Ranesmee. Bella leaning to fight and getting the fake ids made. The Voltaire coming and then of cores the fight. (And my little wish from above bout Jacobs happens)Then the end.

Shouldn't have made the first movie, good god what a snore-fest that was. And I have the distinct feeling it is only going to get worse.

The 4th book is terrible!!! 2 movies is too many! A battle? What battle was there at the end? This was a horrible end to the series....if they do make a 4th, I hope there are some changes made to it because Breaking Dawn was a HUGE disappointment!

I would say it depends on how long the third movie is timewise. People went to see Lord of the Rings in theatres and eah installment was very long. Uless they think Breaking Dawn should be over 3 hours in lentgth try and keep it to one movie.

I read all 4 books, well 5 if you count the Midnight Sun draft, over a week, and I did feel that Breaking Dawn was 2 stories crammed into a single book. It was like New Moon and Eclipse being published as a single book. If they are making those 2 stories into 2 separate movies, then Breaking Dawn really needs to be 2 movies, too. I will be interested to see how they manage to string out New Moon and Eclipse into 2 movies since New Moon really ended with a cliffhanger, kinda like Empire Strikes Back. Whatever they decide to do, they need to get the filming done asap. Robert Pattinson is really starting to show his age. I was especially struck by the trailer scene where he tells the Voltouri strong men and Jane to, "Go to Hell," when they try to take Bella from him. He looked 35. Granted he looked a freaking HOT 35, but he was so far from 17 that as someone in her 30's I didn't feel the least amount of guilt drooling over him. Well, that and he had a decent hair cut. Regardless of their final decision, I will go see all the films, just like I sat through all 3 installments of The Lord of the Rings.

i feel the movie wou8ld be better off split in two and, you could always start the second book after jacobs part in the book to add suspence. it would be a good and a bad thing, good because u get more movie. Bad because of the anxious wait. and i dont care what anyone says if ur a die hard fan like i am you would want the story to go on forever! candace

i think that it should e split in 2 because it is a very long book and there are so many sides to see in this i agree with shashawna and how she thinks it should go

There's definitely enough material to be split into two and I think it's a great idea.
I agree with a few comments seen here though. This franchise isn't as long as HP but it is going to have to mature extremely quickly for the depth and horror and emotional roller coaster of the 4th book to actually tap into people and not slide off and come off as corny and stupid.
Unfortunately, I didn't think they did *the greatest* job adapting Twilight. The romance came across as rushed, contrived and unfounded. The film wasn't nearly long enough to flush out the attraction the way it was in the book, or even to any remotely close degree.
I think if they want to do justice to the books and not just create this travesty of films that people remember as the flop-of-an-attempt to capture what was really a classic romance, they need to find a way to deepen, lengthen and expand the screenwriting in the future. Not to mention dumping the director. I'm sorry, but Catherine Hardwick strikes me as a hardcore amateur. Thirteen was alright, but experience and subtlety are so much more important in a book adaptation. You have to say so much with every scene and much of the commentaries on the Bluray gave me the impression she didn't know what she was doing. Oh well, I hear she's not on New Moon.
