Lena Headey, star of the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series, has nabbed the last major part in HBO's Game of Thrones pilot, according to Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune. Headey will portray Cersei Lannister, a woman of royal blood who is every bit as smart, cunning and devious as the powerful men around her.
Other cast members include Peter Dinklage as Cersei's brother Tyrion, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Cersei's twin, Jaime, Sean Bean as aristocrat Ned Stark, Jennifer Ehle as his wife, Catelyn Stark, and Mark Addy as King Robert. HBO confirmed the casting of Headey on Tuesday.
The Game of Thrones pilot, an adaptation of the fantasy novel by George R.R. Martin, starts shooting in late October in Northern Ireland.

Holy...well, you know. I mean, for anyone who has seen Lena's work in films like 300 and The Sarah Connor series, she's a great actress, and with any other show I would be excited, but...well, for anyone who has read R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series -and I won't ruin it for those who have not- the character of Cercei Lannister, is, for lack of a better term, flipping twisted.
One particular, um...'pass-time' of the character is 'really' messed up. And, to see Lena acting out those particular moments, wow, I just will not be able to look at her the same way again. Not sure if that's good or bad...

Always a pleasure to watch her.

It'll be interesting to see her as a blonde - at least I hope they'll keep the character's coloration from the books since it plays a rather important role to the plot of the first novel.

Will they keep the incestuous relationship between Jaime and Cersei? it plays an important role in the first book.

They certainly went all out to cast this series. I cerntainly hope it gets picked up and scores well enough in the ratings to additional series. I so can't wait for this to go live!

If she ain't blonde, the series won't work. And it's not just the yellow hair. She's very Aryan. Lightskinned, bluish eyes. In a pre genetics testing world, Cersei has to come off as the poster child for recessive traits. If they mess with this and come up with some soap opera way for Ned to figure it out, it will piss off a lot of people.
