Unseen "Muck Monster" might become Florida's Loch Ness

Unseen "Muck Monster" might become Florida\'s Loch Ness
The Loch Ness Monster may be a hoax, but the tourism it caused is very real.

A mysterious ripple in the waters near West Palm Beach has been given a name—the "Muck Monster"—and attracted so much attention that the Palm Beach County Visitors and Convention Bureau says it has received 4 million Web site hits since the incident was first reported.

City commissioners are hoping that where monsters lead, tourists will follow, so they're meeting today to discuss whether to put telescopes and feeding pellets on a Lake Worth Lagoon dock so visitors can watch and feed the supposed creature.

The thing is—no one has actually seen the Muck Monster yet, as whatever is causing the wake has never breached the surface. We've examined the YouTube video that started it all (check it out below), and think it would take several margaritas before the wake would start to look anything like a monster to us.

What do you think?

I reported seeing such a creature in the late 70's at the Venice (FL) jetties. I only saw a tail fin about 6-8 feet wide and horizontal like a whale. I was only a kid and no one believed me.

WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?

Retarded! I've lived on the Florida intracoastal my entire life and I've seen this type of thing a hundred times. Its simply water swirling around as the tides roll in and out around submerged canals. Look at Google Earth sattelite and look at the serpentine canals all along the coastal areas of eastern Florida. Nothing about this video gives me any indication that the ripples are related to anything living.

esalkin, what you saw was probably a whale shark. It is very possible you saw one there and they can fit that description.

By cooblob at 10:46 PM ON 09/14/09

It could be one of many different marine animals, a manatee or turtle are two likely ones.

The name Muck Monster is already taken people - try something else. Google Muck Monster and you'll learn of its origins dating back to the 80s in Hartville, OH alongside Boder the Dog.

"esalkin, what you saw was probably a whale shark. It is very possible you saw one there and they can fit that description."

Except that a whale shark is still a shark and has a vertical tail fin like every other shark. It's called a whale shark because of its size, not its tail.

I believe and think its hilarious that they are gonna put feeding stations because what if it eats tourists?

The most interesting thing about this ...and any other "bigfootogopogeyetichupacabranessiechamp" for lack of a postable term ......karap>is that anyone actually believes they are real.from birthers, deathers, bigfoot lochnessyete, etc believers is there any doubt that the country has lost a number of i.q. points over the last 10 years? And some of the responses to this post will be more proof.
