The 4 (mostly bad) options Defying Gravity fans face

The 4 (mostly bad) options \<i\>Defying Gravity\<\/i\> fans face

ABC hasn't officially canceled Defying Gravity, even though an episode billed as the "season finale" aired last Sunday and the show is no longer on the network's schedule. Although it's unlikely that the low-rated series will ever get another season on ABC, there seem to be two or three unaired episodes of the show.

(CTV in Canada will air the final three episodes: "Eve Ate the Apple" on Sept. 18, "Deja Vu" on Sept 25 and "Solitary" at a date TBA.)

Now the question is, what's going to happen to those, and when will U.S. fans get to see them?

Publicly, ABC says it's trying to find room on the schedule for the unaired episodes, according to FutonCritic.com, and that's certainly one option. According to industry insiders we checked with, though, there are several other possibilities that are more likely for the Fox-produced show:

Option 2: Fox will sell Defying Gravity to a cable network, using the unaired (and therefore "new") episodes as an incentive. This is exactly what happened when Fox sold Firefly to our parent company, Syfy, a few years ago. In that case, fans will probably have to wait 6-12 months to see the remaining episodes.

Option 3: ABC will run them online as a stunt to drive traffic to its Web site, just as it did with the canceled show Daybreak. At least this way ABC will get some bang for its buck, and the upside for fans is that they could see the unaired episodes as early as this fall season.

Option 4: Because retail sales are likely to be more lucrative than an online stunt, Fox might negotiate with ABC to hold the episodes for the DVD market, in which case fans are back to the 6-12-month timeline.

Although none of these options offers much solace to Defying Gravity lovers who want ABC to continue the show, the upside is that they'll definitely see at least a little more of the series ... at some point.

Leaving us on that massive cliffhanger was a dick move, ABC. Is it any wonder we're all chomping at the bit to see what happens next?

By farscape29 at 2:13 PM ON 09/16/09

Yet another brilliant move by the programming execs at ABC. First Pushing Daisies now this. Somehow Gray's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives are still on the air.

By Jeff at 2:17 PM ON 09/16/09

Here's hoping some new media invention or paradigm thingy will swing us back to a time when networks let a show's fanbase grow a little bit before axing it.

Defying Gravity may be a potboiler, but it's a fun ride!

By shiny at 2:18 PM ON 09/16/09

I agree.. how the hell are gray's anatomy and desperate housewives still on the air? Defying Gravity kept us wanting more EVERY episode... Any chance SyFy might pick it up? Even trying to take solace in the fact that there are 3 more episodes hiding somewhere isn't enough... we want MORE Defying Gravity...

By docwho2100 at 2:29 PM ON 09/16/09

There are 13 episodes actually and if you support the show - check out this site - http://defyinggravity.wetpaint.com/page/Save+Our+Show+-+Beta+Siren+Call

By Jwb52z at 2:31 PM ON 09/16/09

As long as shows are expected to get soaring ratings right from the start and as long as certain "demographics" are wanted above all others/all else, some shows will never get a true chance. That said, anything remotely Science Fiction, now that Star Trek will probably never be back on TV, for one, will probably never get a foothold in network TV again. All things that are like soap operas with sex and violence and other forms of titilation will stay along with cheaply made faux reality shows.

By MSgt at 2:39 PM ON 09/16/09

ABC (Family) cancelled Kyle XY, which was the only show I ever watched on that channel. I don't even know what replaced it. DG was one of only two shows I watch on ABC, so now I'm down to one... which is going into its final season. Boneheaded moves like this one make me wonder if I should even bother tuning in to "V" and "Flash Forward" when they start.

By mikey at 2:44 PM ON 09/16/09

I want to like the show, but the female lead character, Zoe, just doesn't ring true for me. She's a good actress, but this is not the right part for her. It's distracting me from enjoying the show.

By UniKyrn at 2:52 PM ON 09/16/09

When will US fans get to see them? Just after CTV airs them, if the fans care to look.

By belladonna75 at 2:52 PM ON 09/16/09

What? Frackin ABC, damn it that show was so good we were buying the episodes on iTunes! hopefully they might come to there so my husband and myself can see the final ones :(

By Erik Kolacek at 2:54 PM ON 09/16/09

@Slander: Agreed. Total dick move. For f*cks sake, why buy a series if you can't commit to twelve lousy hours? What do you expect when you try to match HBO anyway?

By Chainer at 3:05 PM ON 09/16/09

It really ticked me off when I tuned in sunday and heard 'season finale' when it sounded more like 'we don't have the balls to stick by an original and good show so we are axing it because it doesn't fit our idea of how a show should be received' When will the big networks pick up on the fact that the way we watch TV today has changed, a lot, from how they do business?

Why else would Cable shows be posting as big of numbers as they are?

Personally, I would love for SyFy to buy the series, hire on the actors and writers and keep it going, but here's to wishing.

By Skyhawk101 at 3:08 PM ON 09/16/09

Well im glad i live in canada and will get to see the final 3 episodes. This is why piracy is so widespread. the ctv airings will be ripped and posted online and fans will watch it and leave abc pennyless

By CaptJohnson at 3:19 PM ON 09/16/09

OH NOO! This is a major tragedy; I was already devastated when Virtuality got fried on FOX and now Defying Gravity. C'mon ... this show had great potential; A character-driven shown and finally not just a blown up action-based and btw. mindless scifi show. What's wrong with the people! As a hardcore scifi fan, it's depressing to see that SPACE no longer features prominently in people's imagination.
Perhaps there's some hope for Defying Gravity in the future. Keep my fingers crossed.

By WhatTheFrak at 3:30 PM ON 09/16/09

Hmmm, I'm sensing a pattern here with the networks.

DG was one of the first shows on ABC in a LONG time that actually intrigued me and kept me coming back to watch more, kept me guessing, had good writing, and more importantly, actually had some FACTUAL basis behind the science fiction! The fact that ABC would purchase purchase/license it from CTV for an entire season the give it the axe without airing the full season in just incomprehensible.

Actually, this reminds me of NBC and their treatment of The Listener. Yet another excellent show that showed great potential that was ended before its time.

Others that fall into this category? Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Jericho and The 4400 (are you listening NBC/Universal?) to name a few.

I guess if it isn't a crime investigation, missing persons, cop drama, court drama or night time soap opera, it hasn't got a chance in Hades of surviving these days on network television. Even with popular demand, the network executives seem to be thinking with something other than their brains these days. That's really sad.

By allison&jack at 3:35 PM ON 09/16/09

It was apparent from the start that this show was a cheap summer burnoff. Just like Merlin on NBC (which I loved by the way and am glad to hear it'll be back next year in some form or other (BBCAmerica, bittorent etc). Not saying it wasn't a good show, though I personally didn't like it, just saying that if ABC had any faith in it actually being a successful show it would have been aired during the regular season.

The moral, it's best to always take the network shows ran during the summer with a grain of salt. Most of them are just cheap throwaways that don't stick around past labor day.

But they should at least have aired all 13 episodes(though from a business stand point, I can understand why they chose not to), or a marathon of the entire series on the soap channel (owned by ABC, and it was a bit of a soap opera set in space) or ABC family, or posted them online at the very least.

By Ballad of St.George at 3:51 PM ON 09/16/09

Love this show, this is crazy seems like a whole bunch of my shows never really get chance. I also never feel that I am in the minority liking these shows as can be seen by the comments here and tons of other sites. Maybe their ways of registering ratings are antiquated because they shows they are canceling and not giving a chance are the BEST ! Damn shame..

By Zorro 6 at 3:59 PM ON 09/16/09

Someone on Facebook coined the term "Melrose Space" in regard to the melodramatic elements of the inter-personal relationships. Aside from that, though - this was one of the only shows I'd go out of my way to watch. It had potential, and it seemed it was reaching for it... d'oh!

By Stone at 4:00 PM ON 09/16/09

Option 5) Download it after it airs in Canada.

By Token at 4:18 PM ON 09/16/09

I really don't get it. Are there just not enough SF fans watching TV to make SF TV worthwhile on mainstream networks? Why do really good shows keep getting axed, and their viewers jerked around year after year?

Has any journalist managed to interview these networks' execs and find out what the real story is? Why do they CREATE these shows if they [almost] constantly fail?

By Herberwil at 4:27 PM ON 09/16/09

what I liked about Defying Gravity is it was about actually possible space Flights Within the Solar System things we could actually do right now with enough money and effort.
What I did not like was Beta. Whatever that stupid thing was it was not necessary to make a good series. Anymore than Eureka needed that weird thing from the first couple of seasons. Both shows can do well without going that far into the Fringe. Might as well do a moonbase that has to deal with Grey Alien abductions all the time. Whether for Real or not, don't know don't care. I do care about mankind going to the other planets of this solar system and eventually going to the Stars.

By bunny at 4:40 PM ON 09/16/09

That's why you NEVER watch ABC, CBS, NBC for Sci Fi programming. They'll screw you everytime. LOST is the only example of a non-cop, non-hospital show that made it.

By Richard S. Drake at 4:59 PM ON 09/16/09

And networks still wonder why viewers are dropping like flies!

By dijon99 at 5:01 PM ON 09/16/09

I loved this show. I am so disappointed that it has ended.

By thatsucks at 5:15 PM ON 09/16/09

wow. that sucks. my wife and I finally both found a show we like to watch together and it get's pulled. Where are my extra bags of peanuts....

By Sandy at 5:19 PM ON 09/16/09

I'm not a fan of defying gravity...gave it a shot, but it just couldn't rope me in (won't give the details as this post isn't about bashing the show), but I hope the fans are able to see it continued or at least a good conclusion to the series. I totally empathize with the cancellation blues. This past year or so has seen some really great shows axed: Life on Mars, Moonlight, etc... One reason why I watch channels like USA where they don't need 20 points on the outdated Nielsen system to keep a show around. Ah well. Good luck fans.

By rabbit at 5:36 PM ON 09/16/09

LOVED THIS SHOW -- WANT TO SEE MORE AND MORE....

By archer75 at 5:40 PM ON 09/16/09

The wife and I love this show as well. Besides this the only other show we watch on ABC is Lost. Beyond that nothing on that channel can hold our interest. I really hope it comes back.
How about this time you advertise it and give it a better time slot?

By kizer at 6:04 PM ON 09/16/09

So what cop or hospital show are they going to put in its place. Gawd only knows that we need one more of them.

Get a good Bittorrent client and start watching the UK shows because they appear to be the only ones that stay on the air opposed to us that constantly throw a show on the air, spend way to much for effects then realize, "Oh heck we can't actually pay for this so lets just cut it"

Its a no wonder that the film makers goto Canda to shoot opposed to shooting in the US because we are way to greedy and appearently its the critics that decide what stays on the air and what doesn't even thou most of the critics are pompas wind bags that would rather watch feel good movies with feelings and deep meanings opposed to watching !$!@# blow up and serve as good entertainment.

By bertman at 6:07 PM ON 09/16/09

Watched the first couple eps, but just wasn't into it. The "Melrose Space" comment earlier summed it up, as far as I was concerned.

The real issue here was that I didn't know the show was still on. I thought it had been canceled long ago. That is the fault of ABC, and it is the problem that faces many shows that don't explode into the public awareness as new shows. NOBODY was talking about it. There was no 'buzz'. And only a fool would believe that 'buzz' is created spontaneously. It always starts with promotion of some kind. ABC had little faith in it from day 1, and just left it wilt away in a corner. This happens so often, it just leaves a fan feeling disheartened about even trying to watch a new show. Just like (insert favorite canceled series here) that was great and never got a chance.

Sorry about rambling on... Still feeling the pain from Life on Mars/Firefly/Knight Rider (well maybe not...)/Life/Nowhere Man (Check that Reference!)/Fastlane/Drive/etc....

And the Captcha suckz on this site....

By wraithfodder42 at 6:14 PM ON 09/16/09

Seriously, let me know when it's out on DVD. I have the last several episodes on tape but now, why watch them? I don't want to sit there and go "argh, cliffhanger!" Sigh. ABC helped kill it by putting it in death slot, Sunday at 10pm. Who watches tv then??

By binagran at 7:03 PM ON 09/16/09

Nowhere Man, heheh, now that brings back memories.

By Emanuil at 7:47 PM ON 09/16/09

Grrrr I hate this !@$% ! I was eager to watch the next episodes and even the next seasons and now i hear it's canceld .... frak and frel with this :(

I never heard about the show, not an ad not a post, NOTHING. But i saw it when it aired, i liked the name, the cast, the whole thing. I wanted more and more after every episode :( i even watched the last episode twice in two days and the only show that was good enough to make me do this was Heroes in it's first seasons.

This is like reading a very interesting book, nice charecters, good story, a lot of potetial, the one that mekes you read it in a day. And when you get to a really interesting part you turn the next page and it's BLANK and so is the next one and the next one ...

Please Syfy pick this show up it will be one of the good ones, it has so much potential! Even if it's for two or three seasons it deserves a meaningful end.

(p.s. sorry for bad Eng. it's not my first language)

By OldManInOhio at 8:17 PM ON 09/16/09

Gee, this brings back (bad) memories of another Science Fiction show canceled before its time: CRUSADE.

Is ABC by any chance related to TNT? The (idiot) suits at TNT killed CRUSADE before it aired!

Just another reason why suits have no business messing with broadcast content and quality TV.

By Anthony at 8:36 PM ON 09/16/09

Holy crap what show were you guys watching..this was maybe the most boring science fiction show I have ever watched. I missed sundays episode but will watch it tomorrow but man for the most part this whole series has been a snooze fest.

By Highway Man at 11:14 PM ON 09/16/09

I hate these networks I really do. It seems like all they do is cancel all the shows I’m watching. Over the summer I watched two shows and Defying Gravity is one of them. I like this show a lot. It’s science fiction and the tech looks like something we could now. It has a really good cast and I was enjoying the plot. I guess I should have known it was going to get canceled before it was given a chance to grow a fan base.

Oh and Sci-fi Channel, there isn’t anything currently on yer line up that I’m watching, so maybe pick this one up?

By Ian at 12:03 AM ON 09/17/09

AGGGHH!H!!!! I really can't stand it. This show is what should be highlighted by the networks. Brought up and shown. Yes its not making 100 share though its good, thought provoking and moving. *sigh* And the networks can't understand why they keep loose market space overall.

This is a fun drama. Back to waiting for Sanctuary.

By hackyouup at 12:27 AM ON 09/17/09

as long as we have the internet there are ways to see the unaired episodes minuets or hours after they air on CTV. And as a side note- anytime we have something new or original fans do not support it thus we are feed more remakes of tried and true franchises that we will no doubtably watch or flock to see if only to pick them apart & gripe and moan about remakes, reboots, revamps & sequals ...so keep not supporting original ideas- they'll keep churning out the remakes & reality shows.

By canadienhits at 12:39 AM ON 09/17/09

NOTE: CTV on their program listing has Defying Gravity playing on Friday the 18th, BUT does NOT have it on the following Friday, the 25th, being replaced in time slot by Flashpoint

By Dion at 1:10 AM ON 09/17/09

OK. A couple of things to set the record straight. ..
1. Shot in Vancouver BC during spring and summer of 2008, Defying Gravity was *not* produced for ABC. It was made by the CHUM division of CTV, of which Space: The Imagination Station is a part of and aside from CTV and Space airing it, the intent was to sell it to overseas markets. ABC got wind of the series and picked it up as a summer replacement.

2. Thirteen episodes were produced. Eight have been broadcast. Three more titles are given above so that makes 11. Leaves a balance of two eps outstanding. Whether CTV chooses to air them, (and the likelihood of that, is slim to none), Space probably will and in a reliable time slot. If CTV, who incidentally moved DG's slot to Fridays 7:00 pm eastern time three weeks ago, does go ahead with it, it will likely be used as a substitute for something else, meaning the episodes won't be in a reliable slot fans can count on. They'll be all over the weekly map. They've done this before and no show - even first run season 4 episodes of "The Sopranos" were immune.

By Alhazred at 1:24 AM ON 09/17/09

Wow, I feel totally left out. I didn't even know this show was on the air and now it's being cancelled!! WTF

By buckmom at 5:41 AM ON 09/17/09

One correction in the episode count, Dion. The first 'episode' that was shown was two hours long and was actually the first and second episodes shown together.

By Sean at 7:44 AM ON 09/17/09

Unfortunately, watching the episodes on CTV doesn't appear to be an option. I tried to watch one yesterday, and a message came up saying it wasn't available for my region. Apparently you have to be in Canada to stream it on CTV.

By 3456 at 8:15 AM ON 09/17/09

Science fiction on the "low channels" like
Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS does not last. It is only
a matter of time before it is cancelled.
People want to watch reality TV shows,
crime dramas and hospital dramas. Good
science fiction will always be on the "fringe"
and that's just where I like it.

By shoenig369 at 8:30 AM ON 09/17/09

I really enjoyed the show. I actually looked forward to it and it has been years since I looked forward to a network television show. I loved the characters. I thought the sets were fantastic. I loved the music and I liked the way the show was revealed--some in the present and some 5 years earlier while the crew was in training. I liked the potential relationships in the crew. And all the mysteries that were strewn out in the episodes. Like what happened to Donner's vasectomy. What was the tie-in with the Virgin corporation. Who was the third person to know about Beta? What is the bright light coming out from behind the planet in Donner's and Zoe's dream? And there are a lot more beside the obvios question about Beta. But this show was treated the same way the hard science fiction is always treated by the networks. I really don't know why they keep trying it. They never give it a chance. They put it on at bad times and they don't promote it. Why did ABC start this show so far in advance of the rest of the fall schedule?

Well, I'll tell you it all about the money. If there is not an instant success and advertising bucks they can count on a show is not going to make it. And the experience with sci-fi is that it takes a while to build an audience. Corporations are in it for the money. Corporations are always in it for the money. That is my we are in the middle of a big fat recession right now. The banks and the insurance companies got greedy and made a bunch of bad loans and we, the people are paying for it. And we always pay for it. And we always will.

And by the way, enjoy your down loading while you can because they're going to figure out a way to take that away from us too.

By dantebays at 9:18 AM ON 09/17/09

I wasn't a Lost fan until the second season. As a father of three, it's hard for me to commit to more than 3-4 shows in a given fall launch.

I watched my first episode of Lost on DVD over the summer, then obsessively started renting them back to back. I think I had the whole season behind me by the end of the week. I was hooked. Don't tell me ABC can't sit back and let a dense, complex show find its legs. They did a great job keeping Lost going in spite of occasional ratings slumps.

Defying Gravity was one of those shows I decided to give a chance this season. I feel cheated because I could have given something else a try instead. I enjoyed the pace of the show, the subtle hints at futurism while maintaining a contemporary vibe.

I could have done without the pseudoscience. I didn't buy the "magnetic clothes" any more than I do Star Trek and BSG's "artificial gravity plating" nor was I too happy with the instantaneous radio exchanges with Earth -- but such is sci fi on TV.

So, Defying Gravity and I had a one-night stand, not a long term relationship. I'll put it behind me, like such shows as Drive (which I watched because of Nathan Fillion) and Virtuality. Fun, but forgettable.

By JK at 9:21 AM ON 09/17/09

I hate to hear it's been axed, but it wasn't a show I really got into... and I love SciFi shows.

For probably the last 3 or 4 years, I have avoided committing to new TV shows... I wait until I hear news of Season 2 signing and then buy the DVD set to catch up. I plan on doing this for FlashForward and a few other non-scifi shows...

Sorry, but I just won't watch a new TV show these days. I didn't start watching Eureka until Season 2 was over and I heard Season 3 was signed... same with Sanctuary. I don't lose any sleep not watching that "must see" tv show - I figure if it makes it past the first year, then it probably has good writers, good audience, good story, and a good DVD set with extras.

By Kyle Nin at 9:39 AM ON 09/17/09

This series was doomed from the start for two main reasons: It takes place in the future and it takes place in space. If no one has noticed, there are very few TV shows on right now that fit those two categories. About ten years ago, it would have been a different story. But recently, it seems like people aren't really all that interested.

I applaud them for trying to bring that type of sci-fi back, but I don't think audiences are ready just quite yet.

By Too bad at 11:36 AM ON 09/17/09

The show certainly had its flaws (Like, did they NOT do psych evals on the people chosen for Humanity's most ambitious space endeavor?) but I liked it. I figured it wasn't going to last, though. The typical US primetime TV watcher doesn't have enough vision to enjoy such a show.

By Daniel at 11:56 AM ON 09/17/09

Still feel that "Virtuality" would have been a better show..

By Observer at 12:24 PM ON 09/17/09

Heh, I'm still upset that ABC cancelled Time Tunnel in the 60's, without Tony and Doug making it back home.

By Itsnotsnotitsnot at 1:05 PM ON 09/17/09

"Oh and Sci-fi Channel, there isn’t anything currently on yer line up that I’m watching, so maybe pick this one up?"

The show was created and produced for Canadian Television and apparantly wasn't even good enough to survive longer than 13 episodes there either, why on earth would Syfy want to pick up a dud like this? I'm sure they are in the business of trying to make money, not throwing it away on someone else's failed project.

Say what you want about BBCAmerica, but at least they only bring over the successful British shows. ABC should have ran a disclaimer mentioning the fact that this show never stood a chance of seeing a second season during the pilot episode.

By Timbo at 1:44 PM ON 09/17/09

I really enjoyed this show, i didnt know it was having low ratings and to read this that they may not even air the other shows, really disappointing. Why is it that it seems the interesting tv shows get the always canned...

By McTex at 2:08 PM ON 09/17/09

So SyFY- weren't you arguing why Defying Gravity was better than Virtuality just a few short months ago? MmmmHmmm...

I DVR'd the first 4 episodes of Defying Gravity but decided to give up on it. It just wasn't worthy my time - the writing was poor and there was nothing to grab me and make me a fan.

Virtuality, on the other hand, made me want more and had a much better plot.

By docwho2100 at 3:23 PM ON 09/17/09

Ok - looking at the recent posts - there are like 5 - 20 comments per post and this DG one has almost 60 already - heck yeah there is support and even those who say they do not like it, thanks for chiming in, it shows this show has WATER COOLER potential - if you are interested in trying to add your voice - here is a site with links to petitions and other ideas - http://defyinggravity.wetpaint.com/page/Save+Our+Show+-+Beta+Siren+Call

By hackyouup at 5:08 PM ON 09/17/09

I've watch every episode so far and was able to get the last episode an hour after it played on CTV and before it appeared days later in American. Not going to plug any sites but I watched it on an AVI file as I did with Merlin last summer (it's a Brit show that aired here this summer while the second season is about to begin) I've also seen all three seasons of Primeval, seconf Season of Sarah Jane, both new Doctor Who movies and the first season of Survivors -most of these shows have not aired on us soil yet. Browse the web. you can find them DL them ect. And it's a shame it has to come to that otherwise it becomes a big waiting game, there are also a plethra of canced shows you can find omnline not on DVD yet

By hackyouup at 5:15 PM ON 09/17/09

ummm..BTW..I would never "Tell" anyone to illeagly download anything from a bittorrent site but i will make mention some of those same sites do have an option to "pay" a membership fee of some sort ect, but itunes is a very good source as they will most times sell unaired episodes or series like the do for the Aquaman pilot & Three Moons Over Milford Series . These have never seen DVD either

By Batflight at 7:09 PM ON 09/17/09

Option 6: ABC airs the last episodes after they cancel a new Fall show. That would be quicker.

By mikey at 7:56 PM ON 09/17/09

I tried to like this show, and I hope it continues. However, I can't seem to get past my dislike of the Zoe character. Astronauts just are not 'emo' like they are playing her character. Stop the dramatic sighs!

By FINISH QUANTUM LEAP! at 10:32 PM ON 09/17/09

Forget this show, Sam Beckett needs to leap home first.

By nevets13 at 10:38 PM ON 09/17/09

I will be hitting eztv.it the morning after the shows air in canada. illegal? yes. But stupid ABC has left me no choice.

By Seth at 12:17 AM ON 09/18/09

Why don't they try actually marketing the show?!? Has anybody seen ONE commercial for it?!?

By dion at 5:53 PM ON 09/18/09

@ buckman: True, the the first two eps were broadcast back to back, but each has its own opening credits, making them separate episodes. You can verify this if you want by going to epguides, com. They list the first ep broadcast 08.02 as 'Pilot' and the second also broadcast 08.02 as "Natural Selection" - its actual title.

By Avariel at 7:15 PM ON 09/18/09

Good Sci-Fi breeds (and caters to) intelligence in the masses. It inspires our children to reach for technological heights in our future that seem like smoke and mirrors to us now.

Firefly deserved at LEAST 3 seasons; it was such a superb storytelling melding of SciFi and Western themes (which has never been attempted since Yul Brynner in WestWorld).

I'm guessing that corporate networks favor "dumbing down" the American public as much as they can. So Sci Fi will never stand a chance, really (unless working on a bigscreen megabudget like Avatar is). And this show (Defying Gravity) has all the hallmarks for another great storytelling masterpiece. (They all start out a little rough... look how Babylon 5 started, compared to how it finished.)

All killed off because some exec would rather we "cows" watch dumb stunts & bickering on reality shows... the worst television creation ever made in our collective history.

How sad for us all.

By 3pm at 11:03 PM ON 09/19/09

Bring this show to SyFy... Produce a second season... I am HOOKED and omg this last episode (had to dl the Canadian broadcast of it) was the best one yet.

You know, it's crap like this that has me refusing to purchase dvd's. If they go that route, forcing us to purchase a season dvd for a canceled show just to see the last few episodes, I'll freaking pirate it for sure. If we all did the same thing, maybe they'd learn their lesson and at least air all taped episodes.

if u understand the power of google you will find the other 3 unaired episodes. I think if defying gravity was givin a better time and day, it would have massive of fans and viewers. as to how many people do you know that stays up til 10 pm on a sunday night as to where i live? no body we have lives and have to work so i always catch the shows the nest day on the internet. i think abc has lost their minds as to that show would prolly create more fans than maybe even castle!!!!

I'm so sick of good shows being cancelled. I'm not sure how it works but do they count all the people who record these shows on their dvr's. Personally I record everything and whatch it when I have the time so I don't watch anything live....GRRR

Why!!!! I loved this show and I hate ABC. I caught it on Hulu and fell in love

I like the show - okay not so much the soap opera aspects, but overall, I watched it every week! Stupid ABC! Maybe the show's producers can still sell it somewhere!

I liked all the characters, story line could have been improved. But I liked the idea behind the story. Why when you find a show that you like someone decides to cancel it? DUMB !!!!

Watch the episode on the space network. Google "Space Channel"... it's the Canadian network that is airing the rest of the episodes. On the website, click SHOWS>DEFYING GRAVITY>WATCH NOW.

The show has just started here on our cable network. The ship was great -looked like it was based on the one from the BBC doco "Space Odyssey". I don't mind the Melrose Space aspect, but I do object to the bad science. This production had the crew walking around in the zero-g portion of the ship like it was Earth. Trek, BSG and Firefly etal can get away with this through some technobabble device, but this was supposed to be a hard science drama. Ironic considering the title of the show. For those who think that this is minor nit-picking, how would you feel if someone from the West Wing or the Wire suddenly took off and flew around the room. Ignoring the laws of physics when it's convienient. Or in this case, because it was cheaper than trying to portray the airlock as zero-g.

So here was a show that could have been brilliant, but chose to follow the cheap and easy path. Fox killed it for the wrong reason, but I don't know that I'll lose any sleep over its demise. Hopefully someone, somewhere will do it right in the future.

Bring the show back! I'm tired of mindless average joe crap on TV. This show is smart and interesting and it deserves another season!

Really love(d) this show and am very disappointed that it has been cancelled. I watched the last three episodes on the Space channel. I hope they take it on.

Why is it when we invest our time to watch network television, they rip what we watch away from us?

This is a solid show. If I have to wait for a dvd, then so be it. At least I will have the dvd for posterity.

damn every new TV series needs some time to grow a lil fanbase. And in this case Defying Gravity already has one.
If ABC would have given the show a better chance and have made more promo it could become the next star trek!

I totally like that the show was planned for the long term. 6 seasons for the 6 year mission of the Antares.
Please ABC continue to produce the show!!! It just started to become interesting.

Defying Gravity has a large fan base, that feel screwed over by ABC-just check out the message board on abc for the show. We really want sci-fy to pick it up!!

ABC destroyed this show on purpose.... they never wanted it to suceed. It was not created for or by ABC, and they saw it as a very real threat to their programming.... so they bought it, didn't advertise, gave it a terrible time slot and tried to burry it quietly...ABC is no longer a part of my life

Check out http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2251539/unaired_defying_gravity_episodes_airing.html for instruction on watching the episodes that were unaired in the US. They are still playing in other countries and can easily be watched on your computer.
