A new trailer has gone live for Warner Bros.' contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger.
The film is being directed by award-winning music video and commercial director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"), marking his feature film debut.
A Nightmare on Elm Street opens April 30, 2010.

Okay, I'm on board! It might suck, but as a horror fan, I can't not check it out.
By asfm at 2:08 PM ON 09/28/09
I *want* to like the original films, but I just can't stand them. I had originally only been interested in the remake because of Jackie Earle Haley, but after seeing the trailer, it looks like everything that I dislike about the original films isn't present in this new remake.
The Friday 13th remake wasn't exactly good, but it was watchable. Nightmare on Elm Street looks a little better than watchable.

OK, seems like this could be really really good. I only have once huge complaint. The voice of the new actor playing FK. He sounds like he is trying to talk with false teeth in his mouth via a bad halloween costume. Also, his voice is very ordinary. One of the marquee things about FK was his unique voice IMO. When this new guy talks......I don't feel like it's Freddy at all.

Looks nice, haven't seen any of the old films in years. I'm not that big of a Horror fan (mostly because they just uninteresting, boring and impracticable, saying that I liked the old horror movies it just that the new one's suck hard.) but I'll think I'll check this one out.
Looks Fun

Ok - where the HELL is Robert England? How can you take a classic such as Nightmare of Elm Street and NOT have Robert England? Granted the last few Nightmare movies he's been in were hockey and silly (where is the humor in a child molester gone slasher serial killer?!) but it’s almost like pulling Lori Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) out of Halloween and still calling it Halloween! Ok enough of my bitchery! Good luck with the film! Hope it’s worth the $60 dollars you end up spending at the theater for popcorn, soda and a lil back seat nookie! :P
Kthxbye!

Contemporary re-imagining? And the 1980s were... the dark ages? Way to make me feel old, Hollywood.
By mykl at 2:59 PM ON 09/28/09
I think this looks promising… we'll see if Bayer is just another video director in over his head like most of the others or if he can handle this and direct a decent horror movie (though I think most of this succeeding will be if the script is cheesy and half assed like “Freddy vs. Jason” and the many other remakes Platinum Dunes has done).
I do agree with a lot of people saying the voice is not scary or deep enough, let us all hope they change that in post production.
By Omen at 3:18 PM ON 09/28/09
What has this to do with SciFi?
By hockeyfan23@hotmail.com at 3:38 PM ON 09/28/09
The voice is lame, the makeup is horrible, and from what the beginning of the trailer shows, it seems that he could be innocent and wrongly killed? COME ON PEOPLE!!! ARE YOU GONNA SWALLOW EVERYTHING HOLLYWOOD SENDS YOUR WAY?!?!? In my opinion Robert Englund's personality made Freddy worth watching. When we quit going to every remake/reboot, then maybe they'll come up with something else. Now that I have said my peace..... Go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong.. I promise to show rapt attention....

WAHOO! I'm in!
By oddball at 4:43 PM ON 09/28/09
By the looks of this it might be another one of those teenage-slasher movies. Jeez I get so friggin sick of those, let grown adults try these horror movies for a change. It's a remake so why not be different from the original. I'll give this remake a shot, every remake deserves a chance it's the sequels that don't, I just hope it doesn't look as bad as this trailer.
By the way I never did care for the original Freddy movies simply because Freddy talked too much to his victims before he killed them with these goofy one-liners, I mean Robert Englund's voice isn't even scary to begin with. But JEH's voice is alot deeper and when he spoke in Watchmen it moves some nerves so maybe this version of Freddy maybe better.

Omen: "What has this to do with SciFi?"
Are you channeling Shakespeare? :)
By the french man at 5:01 PM ON 09/28/09
i think its a good idea to do the remake and they seem to have good actors but what the movie will be without the real freddy??? he sound retarded if you want to know !!!!!! hahahahahahah 9-- 10 you will never sleep again
By R.B. Huckleberry at 5:27 PM ON 09/28/09
Actually, he looks & sounds...like a burn victim.
And, um...Freddy Kruger was a burn victim.
By Dead Ass Extraction at 6:21 PM ON 09/28/09
To SyFy: You must really be behind the Dead Space Extraction video game since all day I got put straight through to its site rather than to anything else on your site. I was thoroughly annoyed, but will come back as you are one of my fave channels and sites.
By Freddy did not get fingered at 6:26 PM ON 09/28/09
R.B. Huckleberry is right. Being one who has been around burn victims, the voice is very feasible due to burning of the esophagus.
By superfly at 6:43 PM ON 09/28/09
@Omen Thomas Dekker is in it!
This looks better than all of the Jason remakes I never watched. I always liked Freddy more. This could be cool.
By Michael at 7:44 PM ON 09/28/09
Jackie Earle Haley is no Robert Englund. And Samuel Bayer is no Wes Craven. And Michael Bay is...well, Michael Bay. 'Nuff said.
By Doctor Impossible at 8:55 PM ON 09/28/09
Agreed.
By twizted6 at 8:58 PM ON 09/28/09
Maybe you guys should change this to Syfywire so people will stop questioning the stupid s--- you guys put on here.
By Scanner at 9:32 PM ON 09/28/09
This isn't your daddy's NOES, so complainers should stow it. I should know, I was 22 when the first Nightmare came out.
No, Robert Englund (who really made Freddy Krueger a character to remember) isn't Freddy in this movie. He did his stint, and if he has a guest cameo then kewl, but if not then I'll live with it.
In the meantime, try to do yourself a favor and see if it entertains you on it's own value (remake or not) rather than through your expectations on prior renditions.
The single constant in the universe... is change.
By Smiller at 10:02 PM ON 09/28/09
NOOOOOO!!!!! You fucked up another good movie with a bad actor as Freddy! F*** YOU HOLLYWOOD! F*** YOU!!!
By Michael at 10:28 PM ON 09/28/09
@Scanner: Based on your comment, you'd be okay if no more new films came out and everything offered in the cinema from here on out is just a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake...ad infinitum.
The fact is, there is no reason to remake NOES. The original is fine as it is, and the actor that played Freddy Krueger defined the character. Those of us who are sick of remakes and reboots aren't afraid of change. In fact, change is what we want--complete change! We want filmmakers to stop rehashing the SOS.
By 80's baby at 1:06 AM ON 09/29/09
like i've commented before, when is everyone going to realize that it's the mid 70's to 80's babies generation that's running hollywood now, producing, directing, writing, etc... so we're all going to have to put up with material from then, "re-imagined" now and continuing for the next ten years Enjoy! :p

Omen, you forget Scifi Channel's first show was a rerun of Dark Shadows. Scifi buzz (the first Scifi original series) was a news service that covered science fiction, fantasy, and supernatural based horror. They are all aspects of Scifi.
Still... I'd rather they used the original actor!

Apparently, Freddy Krueger is innocent? That adds a new dimension to the film. He becomes a tragic figure.
By melsner at 4:32 AM ON 09/29/09
Are posters here saying Freddy is innocent based on the trailer alone or from other information? Just because he's screaming that he's innocent while an angry mob is trying to kill him doesn't necessarily make it true...
Still, it would be an interesting take and make him a more tragic figure than the original.
By Sookie at 4:43 AM ON 09/29/09
NO one could ever compare to Heather Langenkamp as Nancy and Robert England as Freddy......
By kebgd at 6:08 AM ON 09/29/09
I like the voice they have, it sounds damaged. That’s really messed up if he’s innocent. But how innocent can he be if he comes back for revenge and starts killing their kids. That’s messed up. Hope the director is good or at least the AD. AD's do most of the heavy lifting anyway.
By seaotter_21 at 7:12 AM ON 09/29/09
What is wrong with people? Michael Bay needs to get creative and make a movie that is not a remake of a horror movie classic. I will give him credit for Transformers and Transformers 2. But for him to butcher the Friday the 13th movie and Nightmare on Elm Street is just a crime. Get new material dude!!! Do not kill the classic movies!!!! I have watched every one of the original Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies and I love them. But this new stuff is just horrible.
By Nna at 9:13 AM ON 09/29/09
Thomas Dekker is in it, i would not miss it for the world.
By hmmmmm at 9:31 AM ON 09/29/09
I'm in for a viewing, even if it looks like the entire cast can be recognised from one TV show or another. Then again, maybe that's part of the appeal
By bryan_ford01 at 10:13 AM ON 09/29/09
Being a huge Nightmare fan I am very sceptical about any sort of remake of this movie. The trailer looks amazing but Robert Englund made Freddie. It's gonna be hard to fill his shoes.
By J at 10:37 AM ON 09/29/09
To make a reboot work, they really did need to dump Robert Englund. Englund made the character a parody a long time ago. I hope they make Freddy scary again--a predator, not a one-liner machine--and I think Jackie Earle Haley can make that happen.
By stavenborn at 10:46 AM ON 09/29/09
i never thought i'd see freddy kreuger getting chased by the kurgan from highlander......thank you syfy.
By Robin at 10:53 AM ON 09/29/09
Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. Whatever. I'll wait for this on DVD.
By wylde77 at 11:33 AM ON 09/29/09
ok, I am a huge horror fan and i have all of the original Nightmare on Elm St. movies, my favorites of all times. This kind of looks like it might be good, but i am still very skeptical.....I hope this doesn't torture the name of a great movie
By baddog at 12:04 PM ON 09/29/09
hey this remake doesnt look that bad of course im p*ssed robert englund isnt playing the b*stard son of a hundred maniacs Freddy Krueger but ill probably still check it out
By mike at 3:12 PM ON 09/29/09
Without a new interpretation or even just a bit of new information, this is only repackaging of an old stale story for a new generation; and I won't waste my time with it.
By knickknackpaddywack at 10:03 PM ON 09/29/09
freddy looks like when jim carrey played "fire marshall bill" back on the old in living color show.... "let me show ya' somethin'!!!" lmao
By IrishEyes at 12:56 AM ON 09/30/09
Ok so I was a HUGE Freddy fan back in the days... I agree with the fact that his voice just isn't scary enough though.... But I am glad to see that they are adding the beginning "untold" story. I knew that story thanks to the tv show based on the movies, from the books & fan club, but it is still refreshing to see it now fill in the blanks for everyone. I do SERIOUSLY hope that Robert Englund at least has a cameo appearance.
By Colossus at 1:17 PM ON 09/30/09
I grew up on the original movies and loved everyone of them, no how cheesy they got. I hope that he is NOT innocent of the molestation and murders like the trailer hints at. I DO hope that he is NOT the bastard son of 100 raving lunatics though. lol
The voice is not as scary as the original but if we see more back story of Freddy with his first victims it may be scarier. He sounds like he is sweet talking his victims, kinda like a scary pedo would probably really do.
I'll give it a shot just because it is Elm St. I'm always open for a new spin on something old, even Star Wars movies.
By daget at 4:33 PM ON 09/30/09
it looks ok but dont see the need to remake such a good film, showing freddy actually get burned was a ok idea but why make it sound like he Could be innocent? and michael bay ugh i will prob watch it for free online or sumthin
By classy at 5:18 PM ON 09/30/09
