DC Comics' cult antihero franchise, Lobo, finally has a director with the recent announcement of Guy Ritchie. Now the big question: Who will play the blue-skinned, cigar-chomping bounty hunter? Watchmen's Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is currently playing Clay in another DC Comics Silver/Goldsman production, The Losers, would like to suggest himself.
"Lobo would be very cool," Morgan told a group of reporters last week. "I don't think that I'm as big as Lobo is, but if you could, like, transplant Mickey Rourke's body onto my head, that would be just great."
Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona are producing Lobo, and Don Payne's script is said to be ready. Originally created as a peripheral character in Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer's Green Lantern spinoff comic Omega Men, Lobo was reinvented as an antihero in the early 1990s by writer Alan Grant and artist Simon Bisley, who elevated the exaggerated biker persona to epically monstrous levels.
"[Graphic novels] are an untapped world for me," added Morgan, who made a splash this year as the Comedian in Zack Snyder's graphic-novel-based Watchmen. "Every time I kind of hear about something, I go out and get the book or I look it up on one of your guys' sites. We'll see. You're always looking for material that's kind of smart and fun, and this seems to be where it is right now. The studios are really gravitating towards it. More than I've ever seen them gravitate towards anything in a long time. Comic books are really the thing right now, and I don't see that going away for at least the next couple of years."
Considering the in that Morgan has with the production team behind Lobo, it seems the actor may have a leg up on the competition. "I do have an in," Morgan laughs. "I'll be elbowing somebody soon."

Not to be irritating, but Lobo is and has always been Chalk White, not Blue!.

THANK U LORD!!!! Been waiting for way too long to finally hear that someone is considering LOBO! I have all the comics he was in, nerd right? Hardly. This dude is the comic book role model for men. The 70's had Fonzy, we have LOBO. Anyone not wanting this needs to go see a shrink! This dark sadistic, evil, bastitch is a one of a kind like Superman. Actually Lobo killed everyone of his kind so he could claim to be the last Zarnian. Hopefully this will reignite the comic book version. I can't think of a better actor to play Lobo, at this time anyway, than Jeff Morgan! The role he played in Watchmen, Comedian, was right on the same, sort-of line as that of Lobo. If you haven't read Lobo, go to a HAlf-Price books and find the graphic novels. They are tragically funny.

The Scene in the series of Comics Where lobo Finds out that Superman is "DEAD" was a clasic, he totally flips, and can not consice how any one........ with the possible exception of himself, Could possiblly have Killed Superman. This should be a most interesting Movie.

Great suggestion, imagica! I was all fired up for Morgan as the best possible Lobo, but I have to admit, Willig does have the look, and already has the build, of Lobo. I haven't seen him in anything, so I'm still partial to Morgan, but hey, I hope both of them are considered. Hell, I just hope this movie gets made! It would be a decidedly fun thing, and all the more so if this "DC Entertainment" thing means a more cohesive movie universe, a la the post-Iron Man Marvel productions. Having to excise or mangle logically included supporting characters just because they have already been "claimed' by another movie/studio weakens the integrity of the story.

It will definitely be an R rating simply for the bloodshed Lobo is known for. Hey, he committed genocide on his own race, after all! You can't make that a kid-friendly flick.
Just go all out and show Lobo for the bad ass he is. (He'll definitely make Hancock look tame by comparison.)

It needs to be NC-17 if anything. While we're on the subject, they should gather amongst them the original writers to help create the script and plan the scenes according to either original material or preferably direct from the comic series. I wonder if they're going to mention one of his original powers that was taken away from him prior to him getting his own series? "I had to neuter him". Oh, I have the comic somewhere in my closet, I forget who said that line. It was the original team leader that had to neuter LOBO in order to get control over him.

Gotta have the satire the comedic approach but not too stupid that the plot fails to grab the audience. Remember people, the more it is liked and received the better chance we have of getting two!
