What's happening with Diablo Cody's zombie flick Breathers?

What\'s happening with Diablo Cody\'s zombie flick \<i\>Breathers\<\/i\>?

Remember when we told you that Oscar winner Diablo Cody was producing a movie version of S.G. Browne's zombie novel Breathers: A Zombie's Lament? Now we can update that since we scored a brief development meeting with the mogul. Cody walked the red carpet for her first horror movie, Jennifer's Body, on Wednesday in Hollywood and filled us in on Breathers.

The script is done and out to directors—Cody had already read Geoff LaTulippe's adaptation when we spoke in August. Now Hollywood's elite are perusing the draft. "Yeah, we have a script now," Cody said in an exclusive interview. "Woo-hoo! It's actually an incredibly awesome tight script, so we're going to move forward, attach a director next and the whole lovely development process."

It's faithful to the book—Breathers is a zombie love story told from the undead's perspective. Cody says LaTulippe captured Browne's novel accurately. "Very much so," she continued. "Geoff LaTulippe is a great writer."

It's funny, too: These zombies try to live normal lives in society. They even go to support groups. All the laughs from the book remain in the script. "Yeah, if you're a fan of the book, I think people are going to be pleased," Cody said.

I just recently stumbled across this book online and bought it, and am I glad that I did.

It's a great spin on the zombie mythos, and has a number of characters that you grow to care about, despite the fact that they're dead.

I'm truly hoping for a follow up to this book, and am looking forward to a movie version.

Now, if we could get a movie/mini-series for "Bad Monkeys", we'd get 2 under-rated books the attention they deserve.
